"Copy nothing"...

Apart from when you make it just look like an Audi
Lots of aspects that immediately remind you of other things.

Also plenty of stuff that doesn't, though probably good reasons no-one else did it...

Not sure it has much of an identity though; looking at it without knowing who made it and you'd just as likely think it was a random Chinese concept as anything else. Lots of bold design but not sure what it achieves?

Good way to show the world that you have a moderate amount of money and a huge deficit in taste.

It looks pretty amazing, the front end maybe is the weakest part, but that's purely subjective. I fee like if the face was sexier, or sleeker somehow, it would be an incredible looking thing.
Great work on stoking up interest, can't say I've been as interested in a concept as this recently.
Now the skepticism of will a production version look anything like that. I don't see it personally, my guess is Toyota FT-1 all over again, i.e. a very disappointing production reality. But we will see!

They seem to have created a new brand to compete with Fiat and a car that will go up against the likes of Bentley.
Precisely. What an absolute shambles. Go down the woke road, say the brand is no longer for the traditional Jaguar customer, then unveil a design with a male Freudian aspect that would mainly be of interest to traditional Jaguar customers, and which makes absolutely no sense in an EV context.

Well I suppose these days the Freudian aspect is "trans" rather than "male".

Some bits look good, but others not so much, and it appears as if it will be massive, too big for European roads. However, it is an interesting car.

My big problem is it being a Jaguar. Firstly, it seems to have been made by people who hate what Jaguar are, so why not start with a new brand? Secondly, because I see the Jaguar brand holding this car back. The VW Phaeton was apparently of a very good car, easily of the standard required for the market aimed at, but it was from a lower segment brand, and so didn’t sell well. If Jaguar survives with these new cars, it will be despite the brand name, not because of it.

Looks fantastic.

I’d like to see a version in Jaguar Racing green.

A thoughtful and well reasoned piece thanks Nic.

I am an absolute sucker for a fastback shape and a powerful 3/4. Traits that to me are very much present in traditional Jag styling.

I fully agree with your comments on "Copy Nothing" suppressing all aspects of Jaguar which is a problem as there is much glory in that name as well as some misses. Copy the good/strong aspects is something brands harness and use for success.

I also agree that a hybridised V8 in such a style of car as the Type 00, as a "bridging" power train to the planned EV future (which allows off ramps ala every other manufacturer looking at the lack of EV enthusiasm among the public) would have, in my view been far more appealing and wise choice.

Let's see how it goes.

The front end and rear 'grate' however are brutalist not modernist and at odds with the flanks and top down view.

I like it and see it as a progressive thoughtful design. At the very least much nicer than what BMWs produced in recent years.
Are you including neue klasse in that?

I like it - will be keen to see how it translates to actual product, but I get it.

I was thinking more like Rolls Royce Coupe silhouette + Audi front.

It'll be interesting to see how closely the actual road going production model resembles this.

Harry's video with the clips of him walking around it give a better perspective of the proportions...

Looks good but nothing that new, bold or game changing design wise IMO. All very underwhelming given the whole 'copy nothing' spiel as you can see bits of all sorts from cars past and present in every bit of the design.

The couldn't afford a Spectre brigade.

TBF I'd happily be part of that brigade.

It won't look anything like that though. I assume this is a wooden/clay buck that some 20 year old designers have jizzed over.

Will wait to see what they actually make and how much they try and sell it for.

I can see why they’ve done it….. everybody talking about the ads, the teaser photos and now the concept… any publicity and all that…

Existing fan base may not like it, but the existing fan base never bought their cars. Sales were awful for most models.

So why not give it a go - not my cup of tea (side profile quite cool)

I really like the futuristic art deco look, certainly different and refreshing from the dreary suv blobs that clutter up our roads. However I fear it’s not going to save Jaguar, I hope I’m wrong.

It's a concept. The real car on the road will not look like that. The camouflaged pics give enough away.

Personally, I think this is deliberately destroying a once loved brand, both conceptually and substantially.

Imo looks fantastic. Love the squareness of the front but I reckon this will be changed for production due to pedestrian safety.
