RE: Jaguar unveils 'fearless' Type 00 in Miami
Discussion
I can actually see the idea and there is a trace of original XJ6 in the front end, albeit brutalised into slab simplicity. There will be more stone chips than a quarry if it ever sees a road.
The XJ design nailed the Jaguar blueprint but is, of course, over 55 years old so extracting key minimalistic elements must be difficult. The grille is just about there and batteries need cooling. The haunches are there but crouched rather than dynamically stretched and the raked rear end is there, albeit sat down. The XF/ new XJ lost a lot of that.
Sadly, the jaGUar badge still looks terrible and infantile in a sea of classy badges and I wish Jaguar had thought a lot harder about that. Even Audi and BMW have classy badges. Even Lotus have a better badge.
I'll reserve judgement until a production car arrives and of course I am not the target market, whoever that may be but it's not something I feel attracted to nor am I in awe of it but we live in a world of 5 million quid bananas taped to a wall so maybe this will be a new "statement". The downside of that is that "art" tends to be a one-off not a mass-produced car.

It's certainly....something.
I actually like the side profile, but I think it's a bit disappointing overall. After all the talk of a brave new world, I'm not sure it's all that brave or new. It looks like something from an early 2000s sci-fi movie. The front and rear are not very attractive either.
I think the long bonnet is interesting. As a pure EV, it's clearly not necessary in terms of motors, but it makes you wonder if they plan to put a lot of the batteries in there perhaps? It's going to be fascinating to see how the production car compares.
Finally, I do have to wonder why it will be joined by SUV models. Why would Jaguar make large, six-figure SUVs, potentially competing against the large, six-figure SUVs from the Range Rover side of the JLR stable? I always thought the same about the F-Pace. Competing with yourself seems rather strange and unnecessary.

Jaguar confirming by paint by numbers that as a company they're pretty fked!!
I've been saying that since this circus started. Now we know that the cartoonish objects in the leaked overprocessed images were real and, while striking, barely align with the hyperbole jaGuar have been spouting. The concept is not so much 'styled' as sanded, and copies rather a lot actually.
So what have we learned - next to nothing regarding the finished product and that Gerry McGovern thinks he's the Steve Jobs of the automotive industry.

My big problem is it being a Jaguar. Firstly, it seems to have been made by people who hate what Jaguar are, so why not start with a new brand? Secondly, because I see the Jaguar brand holding this car back. The VW Phaeton was apparently a very good car, easily of the standard required for the market aimed at, but it was from a lower segment brand, and so didn’t sell well. If Jaguar survives with these new cars, it will be despite the brand name, not because of it.
That's a bloody good point actually. Rolls/Bentley/Jaguar - all at the same price point, which would you choose? The poncey image change is going to do nothing to sway that decision. Here's a suggestion - maybe JLR should have spun-off Velar as its own brand and stuck the name on this?
simply no need for the long bonnet.
pretty much had a blank sheet of paper and produced something that looks like it's going to house an engine from a spitfire under the bonnet.
for me, given that it's going to be an EV means that the design didn't have to follow a traditional
about, but it does.

They seem to have created a new brand to compete with Fiat and a car that will go up against the likes of Bentley.
Precisely. What an absolute shambles. Go down the woke road, say the brand is no longer for the traditional Jaguar customer, then unveil a design with a male Freudian aspect that would mainly be of interest to traditional Jaguar customers, and which makes absolutely no sense in an EV context. They have gone for a very slab like, imposing presence, with a pointlessly long bonnet for an EV vehicle. As a design language it is very "masculine", which is not to say men will actually likely it, but their linked advert is the reverse.

Bearing in mind the Cadillac design studio is headed up by former Jaguar design director Julian Thomson, I'm willing to bet that the jaGuar design team's starting point for the double-zero was taking a look inside the folder Thomson left behind on the company's server...The bloke from jaguar looks like he’s Ant or Dec’s stunt double ( sorry not sure which one I mean )
The car itself looks okay in profile, but the front and back are seriously lacking something.
It looks like something from the 90s animated Batman series or an old computer game.
We all know it’s not going to end up like that too.
Maybe it’s a rare case of the production car looking better than the concept…
