Loving close by, I've been looking forward to seeing one of these out and about, and today, I've just spotted a blue one, this didn't have the hard top on, I thought it looked great in the metal,

Also shortly followed by a Midsummer, which looked even more stunning, and I've not seen one before.

The Aero 8 sold reasonably well, and it is a very marmite with a dollop of Nutella on top.

Series 1 (2000–2004): ~300 units
Series 2 (2004–2007): ~180 units
Series 3 (2007–2008): ~180 units
Series 4 (2008–2010): ~200 units
Series 5 (2015–2018): ~300 units

Does it? Looks to me like someone has taken something that looks wise is from the era of horse and cart, bolted on a wing to make a big handle and made it into a pram.

I applaude the way Morgan has only subtly modernised its look but making one into a GT racer will always look odd in my eyes

£126k for "my spec" after half an hour on the configurator this morning.

It's growing on me, in fact I can't think of another new 2 seat open top sports-tourer I'd rather have in the £100k range.

18" wheels
Dark green
Tan leather with mustard stiching
Oatmeal carpet
Beige hood
Body colour dash
Sports exhaust
Dynamic pack
LSD

I know earlier in the thread I accused this car of looking like a LeShuttle train, but I've been on the configurator and it's rather growing on me. biggrin

I'm not at all a trad Morgan customer so don't know much about their world, but what are the residuals on these likely to be? The only way I could maybe justify the (really steep, I think) price would be if it doesn't lose £50k the day it's delivered. eek

Yeah me too!

I like the concept but it’s way more than I’ve ever spent on car. Would need to sell a few cars and either borrow money or pay a stload of tax to take a big dividend scratchchin

Historically residuals have been very strong...

Is it me or does the rear of this new Morgan look spookily like that of the Ferrari 250GT SWB Coupe Aerodinamico as featured in the April issue of Classic and Sports Car?

Sorry but whilst I accept the Morgan die hard fans will have no issues with spending that much money I cannot see them attracting many new or first time buyers to the fold, looks are challenging to say the least.

And for all this talk of how modern and all new it is, it still has a wood body frame not exactly state of art is it.
As others have said, it has a bonded aluminium tub, so the chassis is in-line with plenty of other cars. Sure, parts of the body use wood, but that's a big part of the Morgan USP. I think the fact it's made using such craftsmanship makes it more appealing in a way, and I'm certainly not the typical Morgan buyer.

Ultimately, they don't need to attract many buyers, as their volume is so low anyway.

Agreed, I don’t think Morgan will take sales off Porsche for the Boxter or the 911.

What other open top sports cars are there at that price point?

No Lotus.

Merc SL maybe, starts at £110k for the 2.0 4 pot. Can’t imagine many SL buyers contemplating a Morgan or vice versa.

Jaguar are out of the ICE game.

M8 convertible? Possibly.

In some ways the Morgan is like an Ineos and not just because they share a powertrain. Low volume, very niche, most people just don’t “get it” but those who do love them.

Wow. I cannot get over the negativity being thrown at this today. I think it is beautiful, a gentle but modern evolution of the Morgan form. What did people expect? That is never really going to change a great deal.

I did the factory tour with my family last year and it is fascinating. This is a low volume manufacturer and the cars are built with the most incredible skill, craftsmanship and frankly, love. Metalwork, woodwork, leathers and paint. You won’t see anything like it elsewhere. I would recommend it to anyone. Then you won’t knock these beautiful cars. We should celebrate Morgan and that it still exists.

The outgoing Plus 6 had no manual gearbox, but the Plus 4 still does. I believe the stat was that 80% of production is now auto gearboxes. Amazing given it wasn’t offered until pretty recently, and it seems a shame, but Morgan know their market and have plenty of loyal customers.

You knock this but what would you like? A Boxster? A Z4 with the same engine and gearbox? Really? Is that individual thinking or at all bespoke or hand made in England?

People may yawn at 911s, but we all know it the gentle evolution of 60 years - on a bigger budget than this.

This has a brilliant engine, 1100 kg and no driver aids or assistance systems. Do you knock this at launch but also knock the Defender and Urus, all EVs and that new Jag as not ‘PH’ cars? Then what do you want?

So bravo, Morgan, congratulations! Oh, and that rear window does look a bit too deep…
I totally agree, we should be celebrating Morgan's achievemnt as a British car manufacturer. Well done to all involved on the new launch.

It is a giggle reading all the contributors "hmm yeah at £130k you'll just get a 911...."

The wooden frame enables it to be classified as sustainable, sourced from certified, ethically-managed, biodiverse environments, with a focus on a management team that's kind to their associates, treats everybody with the utmost respect, whatever their imagined gender and which contributes to Morgan's strategic aspiration to be carbon-negative by 2028.

The use of traditional materials also allows vegans, tridans and others to purchase and, more importantly, use as a planet- and child-friendly mode of transport. I just hope that they've sorted their radiators out.

Someone visited the factory in their private helicopter yesterday morning. They were so low over my house I thought they were landing in the garden. It does show though they have some wealthy customers.
