karting is a good call actually

cheap - easy to store the thing.......fast as fk if you get a 2 stroke.

I started racing here a long time ago www.club100.co.uk

you don't even need to own and transport your own Kart.

bear in mind though - you'll get battered for a while by the regulars until you get good!

No, I don't feel it's an addiction. I enjoy choosing my own speed, but if highish speed isn't safe and appropriate or I don't feel like it, I don't do it.

What's important to me is having the choice.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

I think it's more about the feeling you get when driving a car, any car, on the limit.

Thus, when driving a fast car (like an RS6) on the roads I become frustrated and disappointed that I can't exercise it's full performance.

However, I have much more fun when driving a slower car (like a Fiat Panda) at the limit, as you get such a sense of achievement when doing it.

I totally agree with SWAMPY56 its not the speed for some people its the acceleration.
I owned a MK2 Focus ST (2.5 T) last year and was running 370lb/ft of torque and rarely did stupid speeds in it.
The fact it got to the speed limit or sensible speeds in a matter of seconds and all with your head in the back of the headrest is what did it for me.
Torque is what its all about (something which my Fiesta has none of!!!!!)

Get something low to the ground (MR2, MX5) or go really extreme (VX220 etc) and get a loud exhaust. This will make you feel like you are going quicker than you are.

I plan on selling my RX8 very soon to do this...

Yep, with you here (in a smallish way anyway)

If you have a powerful car however this means you will get banned eventually - not matter how carefull you are.

I found my 60s MG fitted the bill to an extent- you can lose the rear end at well below the speed limit around town if you're not carefull (eek) and you can rag it through the gears all day and not do much more than keep up with reps in diesel boxes - but it felt fast - low, loud and uncomforable (lovely!) No shove in the back though. But then came a Jag.

Ahem, after your ban it is a bit different and it feels as if grown-ups have stolen your toys.

Make friends with a farmer? Find an abandoned airfield or sommit? Or search for kicks elsewhere. This isn't the time or place for fast road cars driven with spirit - wish I had been around when there were no speed limits on main roads (although a lot more people were killed or injured).

It is not so much that you will hurt yourself (risk-free kicks are often not very exciting) but that you will hurt somebody else, being sensible for a moment. The most dangerous thing, somebody once said, is meeting a driver like yourself coming the other way. That said I think the punishment for driving over the limit down a deserted, straight road with no side roads, in good weather and fully in control of your car is a bit harsh at times considering the terrible driving you see being done at well within the limit - but guess where police caught me...

Oh hum.

everytime i go out in the car i have to floor it at somepoint on a quiet back road or empty motorway for that adrenaline rush, nothings better than watching the revs rise, the engine getting louder and the scenery going past you a little bit quicker. i would say im near enough on the limit for the amount of speed i can carry around some back road corners but i cant help it
