I use mine on auto all the time and it works just fine, the occasional increase or decrease in the temperature according to conditions outside. When the mrs has been using the car its usually all over the place!

Am I the only one who has to have both "sides" set to the same temperature or do I just have OCD?

Also mine goes up in 0.5 degree increments, am I really going to notice that sort of a difference?

To the OP - I know the pain of Mitsubishi climate, the Lancer I had was the same. Heat like the centre of the sun, followed by absolute zero, rince and repeat. Why can't they do an air blend like everyone else?
My one isn't quite that bad, it just subtly makes it just slightly too warm or cold, like you want to set it in between two clicks on the dial... Upshot is that you either have to click it up or down a notch every 15 minutes or so, or just ignore it for another 5-10 minutes until it gets to the point where it starts coming back again

As does mine - I notice, weirdly, if it's been set to 19.5º rather than 19º (glares at missus, who always sets it to 24º) as my feet get too warm.

A crap recording but I love this Peep Show scene about setting the thermostat. Some people do genuinely seem to believe that if you set a thermostat to 29 degrees it panics and heats up faster to your desired temperature.

I prefer to operate the dials myself, but unfortunately, on my g/fs TT there is the most irritating of climate control systems. It drives me absolutely bananas when I press the air direction to the screen because there is a tiny, almost imperceptible, mist forming on the screen, and the Audi climate control comes barging in crying: "I'll save you!"

The "Auto" mode clicks to "on" without me asking, and the fans go up to hurricane mode to clear the screen. It's like cracking a walnut with a sledge-hammer, and it's extremely distracting and obtrusive to have to deal with while driving.

Going back to the original poster.....I FEEL YOUR PAIN!
My father-in-law, bless him, cannot stop fiddling and constantly adjusting the fan speed/ de-mister setting/ heat setting.

I wouldn't be that bothered if his efforts actually worked and de-misted the interior/ maintained a reasonable level temp, but they always seem to fail miserably. It has gotten to a point where I am now paranoid about getting a lift in his car.

Take last Christmas time for example, when he quite kindly offered to take my wife and I, along with my brother and his girlfriend to a concert at the Newcastle Arena. Now, being a cold night, he had the temp turned up to max when he arrived at ours, and I offered to sit in the front of the Corsa to make it more comfortable for the rear passengers. That was a major mistake. After a couple of miles I had started to feel sick with the approaching heatstroke. The car was five up, the windows were shut and rapidly misting up, and he had the fans on full VENT rolleyes

He proceeded to adjust the fan setting, he also kindly opened the window a crack every now and again. But not once, not ONE SINGLE TIME, did he set the control to de-mist FFS! What part of of DE-MIST does he not understand?
It was exactly the same with his last car aswell, so it isn't a problem with the de-mister.
I'm worried that one day he'll have an accident because either; a) He can't see out because his car's steamed up.
or
b) Doesn't see the obstacle because he's looking down at the heating controls.

How can I subtley approach this subject with him?

I agree fully. What's the bloody point of even the automated system if you're not gonna let it do the automated bit!
Reminds me of the older days, when you used to get an electric desk fan fitted to your dashboard smile

Sorry for the ancient thread bump but it's the only search hit and I'm having a wtf?!

Decided I was too old/life was too short to continue to faff around with public transports when returning from gigs in town, so got the uber and bolt apps.

At least 50% of the drivers have the HVAC entirely switched off, not just AC the fan too. Some will run the system briefly once the windows get a big foggy, one though - on a 40 minuite £45 fare so it's not like he's taking pennys - fully opened both front windows to try to manage the fog, it's midnight in December at 50 on the north circ and freezing!

I mean WTF in general this is pretty st but during a viral pandemic where the primary infection risk is considered to be sharing limited breathing air for a bit, I'm obliged to wear a face nappy the pointlessness of which is evidenced all over every lane of glass because the driver is doing his utmost to increase transmission odds?

Is this what many/most of them just do? The only upside I figure is that they've pretty much all already exposed themselves to the virus and be less of a transmission risk..

Any tips on securing a cab not driven by an absolute moron?

My car is mostly kept on 19 and auto for it all with ac on. Maybe a tweak up and down a degree depending on weather etc. My van on the other hand is awful. Citroen dispatch and it has the numbers around the temp dial but surely can’t be climate. I put it on 20 and after a while it’s too hot so turn it down one notch and after a while it’s too cold so throughout the day I’m constantly moving it up and down a notch. Seems to be such a lag between altering the temperature and what it does. Then again that’s just one of the niggles with this heap of junk. Every so often it decides it wants to be French and changes the speed and language back to French, or the display etc just not work at all. Wouldn’t mind if it was an old van but was brand new last year and the other lads vans are the same.
