Geneva Rumours: New TT For Audi?
Whispers of a new TT, possibly e-tron-shaped, reach PH Towers
Like the Indian listening out for the US cavalry, PistonHeads always tries to have its ear close to the ground, checking for rumbling rumours of approaching new cars. Latest news to reach the ears of PH? That we may see a new TT this year.
A source within the Audi UK sales machine tells us that a new TT is coming, and even that it may be closely based on the smaller of the two Audi e-tron concepts (the one revealed at Detroit).
That must be taken with a pinch of salt, though, as we already know that a production version of the small e-tron concept is likely, but as a 'junior R8' that would run alongside the TT, not replace it.
Naturally, Audi officially remains tight-lipped about the possibility of a new TT, but the Audi UK press office peeps did reveal to PH that "something big is coming for Geneva - and it will be a production car".
Audi also revealed to us that there will be a "differently powered version of something you've already seen".
Now, you could take this as meaning an electric or hybrid version of an existing Audi model or - and this is what we'd pop down to the turf accountants to put our money down for - it'll be a conventionally engined take on the Detroit e-tron, which could become either a successor or a sister for the TT.
Here's hoping...
I was also reading in one of the magazines this month that the platform might be shared with VW, and also Porsche so that they could have a small sports car to fit in below the Boxster...
And the detrot e-tron will become a kind of r4, mid-engined 4 cyclinder thing, with no v-6's planned.
Like a kinda audi, lotus elise.
I personal think the detroit e-tron looks immence so i hope it stays jst as it is.
Rwd aswell, no quattro planned. Keep weight down in such a small car ( 3.93 meter (154.72 in) long and 1.78 meter (70.08 in) wide but just 1.22 meter (48.03 in) )
Hopefully one will be mine in 10 years time.
(Not an attack on the far east manufacturors, after all most Mazdas these days look great, now they're designing for themself, not copying western stuff).
Even more exciting if it is on the VW (Bluesport?) "new 914" type platform, wether or not a sub-Boxster Porsche ever comes along. Casting a mind back to the Porsche-Audi collaborations, we've got nutters like that 1200 BHP Can Am thing, RS2, RS4 etc - gems every time!
