From our experience of limited vehicles rev limits make life near impossible if you want to climb long or steep hills with any significant loads. Speed limiters are much better but some of our drivers are utter 'tards and can't seem to grasp that sitting at full throttle on the limiter just uses more fuel.
There's every chance they've grasped it just fine, but they don't like the limiters.

Thing is, if you treat your drivers like 'tards they'll fulfill your expectations.
I'd be inclined to agree with you and we have never had issues with speeding drivers but the limiters have been on minibuses that have had them fitted to comply with law not to slow people down. What is more frustrating is trying to follow someone in a unlimited smaller minibus, from 60 they have plenty of scope to pull out and overtake, the limited ones end up doing an impression of trucks elephant racing.

+1 for turning it into a contest.

For me, driving the boring miles as economically as possible turns into quite a good game. As long as you don't get the local short trip guys complaining that they'll never get near the mway cruiser figures.
This pretty much. For the sake of a £100 voucher every month, it'll get a bit of competitive spirit and save you lots of fuel too. Carrot, not stick.

A mixture of clean vans, no dmg, limited personal use + mpg = bonus is a great idea, it will cost pennies to setup a webpage where they can see how they are doing on a dynamic chart, and can have small 'battles' and mock the speed demons..(who will stick out , and hence modify there driving thru per pressure rather than top down management).

People love a few extra quid in the pay over anything else I would suspect, you could route 10% of the saving back in, that 90% saving for you and the more they do its win win.
Many companies do not allow personal use due to tax and insurance reason too don't they?

I think the chart idea would work, my workplace has a mix of vehicles, about 50% are trackered, everyone knows which are tracked and monitored. Also the fuel card spending is monitored and recorded with milage also.

I don't mind it so much as my van doesn't have a tracker fitted, I don't take the piss but will do 80, occasionally slightly more on the motorway to help get past people speeding up.

With pressure to meet deadlines and do some much in a day sometimes I will drive faster than I would do if I didn't have them. If I am doing 200-300 miles in a day that extra 10-15mph will all add up to make a substantial time saving.

I'd prefer to be tracked rather than have a speed limiter.

All of the vans in the company I work for are tracked, we only get a grilling if we take the piss. I think if its 30% above the speed limit, an E-mail gets sent to the boss reporting it.

I'd imagine it saved my Boss A LOT of money, as a few of the staff used the vans as they would a personal car and not contributing towards fuel.

One guy actually had to buy a car once the trackers had been fitted as it was his only form of transport!

Personally I only use the van (with permission) if I need to transport something big. I don't want to drive the big, slow and dirty thing any more than I need to!
