Another one, this time on CC. It has a big gap in the servicing (presumed laid up for 10+ yrs looking at the MOT history?) It's a marmite colour combination and looks to need a front end respray from the description but it will be interesting to see where it ends up & if I were interested I'd be looking at possibly a new set of tyres if they haven't been changed very recently as they'd be c.10yrs plus old?! https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1998-porsche-9...

This is the one discussed a few pages back which at that time was being sold by an infamous trader in Scotland…. Registration number was hidden on the ad.

Seemed to sell quickly (£10k?) and now up for auction with seller located on the midlands.

A previous poster commented it had been laid up in a garden for a long time and suffering serious corrosion. MOT history supports that albeit clean pass last month.

Due diligence required I’d say.

I love the colour combo - but then I have weird taste.

My 996 was Savannah on Zenith blue, which was unloved when I bought it in 2012 but I always thought it was far nicer than the ubiquitous grey which looks like plastic to me.

My first Porsche was a 2003 986 with Savanna and I loved it. I think the 996 is very different because of the extra rear seats area which adds a lot more beige. I think some people switch to black carpet or simply black mats which can break it up a bit.

Also on the earlier cars you have the sparkly grey plastics - pic - instead of the simpler black which doesn't quite gel as well with the beige. But I'd probably still prefer Savanna to just a full black interior because for Me black is just a bit boring.

I like the colour combo on that car too; the Savannah goes very well with Arena Red and looks quite classy.

I do agree with you about the grey. When it gets old and shiny in particular it does have a plasticky appearance. Can’t go wrong with black in a sports car and I like the Metropole Blue in my own car, of course!

Gratuitous shot of my car from today - fantastic driving on some great local roads; lovely to see an end to salt on the road and have the sun in the sky!

The Arena Red 996 is at just over £7.1k with less than 3 days to go - will it make £10k including commission?!

Hi all,

I have been keeping my eye on the 996 market for a while now hoping to pick one up later this year. I am intrigued that this has been on the market for a while and just wondered if there were any thoughts on why? As others similar have seemed to go quickly.

It seems to my eye 996s either go quickly or hang around on the market for ages?

Hard to tell from the advert as it has no real information on the car… the history, what work it’s had done.

Is the going rate for an early 996.2 (<100k) around the £10K mark now? I'm looking to move mine on in a few weeks.

All depends on condition and what has been done and more so, what needs doing.

£10k is the low end, well sorted cars that are tight and mint will be double that or more.

It brings up a interesting question, like for like what’s people’s thoughts on value of a 996.1 v 996.2

I'd pay more for a .1 than a .2 if neither have had an engine rebuild. Given 2 nigh on identical cars with a stock Hartech rebuild I'd probably value them the same.

I avoid the 3.6 and prefer the earlier 3.4 cars because I believe the less bore score risk story. I would consider a .2 if it had a hartech engine. When I was looking for my first 996.1 about 8 years ago they were very hard to find in c2 manual coupe 97, 98 or 99. But there were loads of 996.2 cars around. So while they're not as popular as the 997.1 the 996.2 did sell quite well. Although there seems to be a lot of c4s cars which while I do like the red strip on the back I just don't buy into the 4wd thing.

.1 for me… prefer the looks of the .1, and would only have a .2 with a rebuild.

For the avoidance of anyone looking, someone I know flew over to inspect this car and it's an utter dog. Many panels different colours, oil leaks, ticking engine, completely not prepared, in storage, no recent work done, rear bumper not fixed...

Poor guy was gobsmacked, the dealer strung him along for weeks, no idea what the story there was, maybe thought if the guy was prepared to fly over from the mainland he would be committed to buy.

Took along someone from Porsche to help inspect and even they couldn't believe how bad it was presented, not to mention the price eek
That’s a shame you had a bad experience. I’ll be honest I’ve had several dealings with this dealer and they’ve went over and above what would be expected and any cars I’ve seen have been accurately described. They’re not all garage queens but the ones that aren’t are not advertised as such.

It seems very spec dependent, i like my .2 better than just about any .1 but at the time of looking i'd have had either in the right spec and was willing to pay the money for the right car.
