Has anybody taken their GTS on track and had a noise test - I’m wondering if they will sneak into a 98db day with sports exhaust off?

Happy New year all, followed this thread somewhat and its interesting and informative the discussion. I purchased what is a C26 car, a south african spec GTS cabrio, chosen intentionally because of the notch shape roof( this is not my first 911 nor cabrio). Not sure about the SA spec cars, but this has leather dash, Alcantara spec and directional headlights but does not have heated seats (Not a deal breaker), anymore infor on cars from South african spec cars will be appreciated. So far enjoying the car at the minute. Put down a deposit almost a second it was advertised by chance so suspect it was not seen by most and i consider myself lucky. I have been into the aircooled 911 for the past 7 years with my last being a 993 ST tribute, so just adjusting to something more modern.

My "Gepard" as christened is a 2011 c2 cabrio with leather and alcantara PDK car. It is a one owner car from new and so far just gelling with the car. Here are some pictures

Seems like there is a lot of love for the 997GTS from Andrew Frankle and the founder of Paragon.

If you can’t be bothered to watch the whole thing watch from
26.35 to 31.00 and the “if you could only have one Porsche” question at 50.35. I only have one Porsche biggrin

Yep, I went from later cars back to a 997 GTS. It was probably the best car I have owned.

When I bought mine it was my only 911….it is an awesome car as a “one stop shop”

I think Frankel only said it at the start because he knew what was going to be said later. Bit bored of Mr Frankel if I am honest…likes the sound of his own voice too much.

I’ll soon be in a position to turn my plans for a do-it-all Porsche into reality and I keep coming back to the 997 GTS.

The centrelocks never seem to get a mention in any of these videos/discussions, presumably because it’s a non-issue? I worry that as a daily, maybe with winter tyres, the need for a breaker bar or expensive torque converter and tyre changes at OPCs would just become a pain.

As an aside, any thoughts on this one? Interesting colour, manual, from a reputable dealer, but it’s been around for ages. Aerokit less desirable on these? Price/mileage? Apologies if it’s already been mentioned.

The centre-locks serve no useful purpose whatsoever and they are more inconvenient than conventional wheels. But, since 95% of GTS cars had them, there is absolutely no point holding out for a car without them. Also, buyers of GTSs want them, so when you come to resell, it will be easier.

You need to buy, and learn to use, sticky tyre plugs. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Puncture-Punctures-Emerge...

If you've split a tyre wall, you're on a transporter. Unless you've gone to the trouble of buying the breaker bar and torque wrench. Which will travel around with you like an annoying passenger. I'd favour sticky strips and AA membership.

That blue car ^^^^ is blue. And leggy. It's not the aero kit leaving it unsold. If it were black and low miles it would not still be for sale.

I'd take a look at this one if you're after a well priced GTS : https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202412157...

the leggy examples, 2 or 4 wd will never be easy to move on, but I think the blue non-aero kit car looks sensible, yes 100k miles is a point which puts off a good proportion of people, but if buying to drive it, you can drive it without ever thinking of resale. just enjoy it. C/L i agree with above, AA and plugs can get you where you need, the volume of porsche now with C/Ls is significant given the 991/992s that come with them so it's more common place than ever, but I just accepted that a flat would be a trailer if bad or a temporary repair to limp home.

I just sold mine and do miss it, it's a great compromise car for the reasons stated, running costs reasonable, low key, easily overlooked and great to drive.

CL really aren’t a problem (see link below). Had my GTS 11 years and with this set up there is zero CL anxiety. My PDS is much more of a traumatic issue….

911 Virgin car being 4wd is really a personal call. As a 365 day a year car it may well make sense…Sunday morning blasts less so.

There are a lot less 4wd cars around ( I think around 20) but it is the RWD car that most people really want.

Agreed. The 4WD cars are much closer to a C4S with a power kit whereas the RWD car was impossible to replicate through options (it was the only wide body RWD 997).

Yes, but you had to get all Blue Peter on it, and then you were carting around 20kg payload, having reduced your frunk space.

The CLs were a fashion accessory. Bauble wheels. They didn't even fill the arches properly, which is why I bought a set of wheels that did, from Chris ABP, who had assembled the set from the four corners of the globe.

I don't really get why having tyres changed at Porsche should be a hassle? I don't change my tyres myself, so it does not really matter to me where they get changed - same effort anyway.

Edit: and realistically you would mostly do it at the same time as a service anyway. It is not like I have punctures every other month....
