What are we looking at here?
Is this an affected 992 centre lock of an earlier failure?
Is this a center lock failure or a failure of the hub that has sheared and is still attached to the centre lock.
If it is the hub failing, that would appear to be a greater issue to fix than simply changing the centre locks

That’s a very weird looking fracture, I’m guessing from the different shades on the fracture surface that it’s fatigue, and therefore didn’t fail immediately but over a series of stress cycles.. nerd

The Personal Case Manager I have been liaising with at Porsche Customer Relations called me earlier. He said my (local) OPC who supplied the Macan courtesy car will be in touch soon to discuss the compensation package. He again reiterated the compensation will be on a case-by-case basis.

I asked why on earth should it be for my OPC to discuss the financial compensation and surely it should be Porsche head office to manage. His response was the actual number of affected cars is less than originally assumed so the OPCs can deal / handle it!!

If I was the service manager at an OPC, I’d be seriously pissed. Surely head office should be handling this rather than passing the buck on to the OPCs??

I spoke to my OPC today, they said that Porsche won’t be making any offers until customers cars are fixed, as the figures they offer will be dependent on how long customers cars are off the road.

Seems very sensible, they can’t finalise anything until the car is fixed. I’m happy to wait until it’s fixed and then get all bitter and twisted if the compensation is not acceptable. I’m sure it will be based upon days off the road.

Also, having working in the motor trade a long time ago, there is no way that the manufacturer would ever allow an owner to rectify this themselves. The parts will without exception have to be fitted by the OPC. Porsche need to document the repair in case anything goes wrong.

Currently the parts are still due to my OPC 1st week December. Looking forward to my new nuts. 🥜

I’ve a MY24 911 Turbo S. My OPC sent a technician to check centrelock serial numbers yesterday. Week 40 manufacture so still grounded and driving a Macan loaner. Apparently there is a conference call with Reading to brief OPCs on latest status planned for 28/11. Detail on compensation package (only for those who ask for it !??) still awaited.

Technician inspected my wheels on Saturday, are from the faulty batch. Spoke to Porsche U.K. today and they are issuing guidelines to dealers as to what compensation is applicable. What these guidelines are consists of goodwill and any out of pocket expenses, loss of earnings etc
Timescale for parts is still January but some dealers may get them earlier

Dear Porsche

I operate as a mini cab driver in my 911 Turbo s.

Since this recall I have been unable to work.

I earn £3000 a day, more if I get some long trips.

Yours sincerely

Wonder how they react to that !

Just bout a month now since the first signs of the stop drive notification and the communication has been very poor. Just a quick update on the situation would be good.

So we all leave our cars in garages gathering dust….i was expecting better to be honest

We'd all love it to be resolved more quickly but comms for me have been good so far. They called me to explain the situation, told me the options and their best estimate of timescales. They contacted me again to check batch codes and said they'd be in touch in January.

The last I heard which was around 2 weeks ago was the replacement centre locks should be in to Bristol OPC in December and they hope to get my car fixed at some point in December.
I do plan on calling Porsche this week to enquire about compensation again. As much as I love having my GTS as a static piece of art I would rather be driving it as well.

If anyone else is dealing with Bristol OPC specifically what have you been told?

Yes not heard anything from Porsche for over three weeks now, I submitted a modest expense claim that they’ve so far ignored (taxi to collect the loan car from the dealer)..

Let’s see if they respond to my latest email.. tumbleweed

Spoke to Porsche UK who said the OPC's are now dealing with it and that the dealers now have "Goodwill Instructions". They expect dealers to have parts Nov & Dec.

Subsequesntly spoke to my OPC and they'll send someone out hopefully this week to take photos. She recognised the phrase Gooodwill Instructions and said they're not straightforward but will be based on days from notification of stop drive to the point the fault is fully rectified on my vehicle. There are a number of factors apparently. The next thing she checked was if I have finance, because apparently that's a good thing from a goodwill perspective.

A little more clarity would be good, especially as I was mid refinancing to someone cheaper than VWFS.

Pretty much what my dealer said, as they can't work out a package until the car is fixed.

My OPC also mentioned this. Mine isn't financed, so I'm interested to know how that will go against me when it comes to goodwill.

Whether the car is financed or owned outright shouldn't make any difference whatsoever to the compensation package as it didn't with the 991.1 GT3 engine issues.

The opportunity cost of having cash tied up in the car if owned outright effectively replicates any monthly finance/pcp/funding payment.

Until I spoke to them yesterday I'd assumed everyone would get the same treatment - as they should.

It's my choice to finance it but I'd be surprised if the opportunity cost was 11%+ . If you're getting that then I'll have some too please smile

Update on above. Just had a call from my OPC to say they have received parts and want to arrange recovery of my Turbo S. Job should take a “couple of hours” car “should be back in the road by the weekend.” Will keep you advised.
