Curious as I don’t track mine but why 19s and not a secondhand set up oem 18s ? Cheaper to replace tyres surely ? or is it a brake clearance or suspension reason to stick to 19s?

I bought a set of CH-Rs while hunting for a set of Spyder wheels (still trying to find a set btw) and they're a perfect match for the car. Esp with a set of original center caps.

The tyre footprint is a little larger and there will be less flex in the tyre sidewall ... a plus and a minus on the sidewall ...

This may not be the ideal place for this post but I value your views as we have one thing in common, the CR !

So, I have owned my manual CR for 6 years and I have recently been thinking of a change ! Firstly, i absolutely love the CR as it does everything so well. I use it as my weekend car / special trips, been to Italy / Lakes & south France etc. I have covered 12,000 miles in my 6 years, including the 2 euro trips and its currently on 23k !

Reason for possible change, no reason except I feel i need to try other cars befor its too late !?

Up until 4 weeks ago i also had a BMW 330D Touring XDrive as my daily (Brilliant car but not justified covering 5k miles per year) and i have had various track cars ranging from MX5's, Megane 250 Cup (Latest) which cover 3 / 4 track days a year and sits on the drive the rest of the time (Circa 1500 miles per year) These have both been sold now.

My question / options:

Buy something that can do the daily duties and the 3 / 4 track days per year ..... Maybe something like a BMW OG M2 (Just over £20k now) and keep the CR or maybe a slightly lesser Daily / Track car like a Megane 275 cup (Circa £12k - £15k) and change / upgrade the CR?

Budget would be upto 70k and brings into play the usual contenders Cayman 981 GT4, possibly 911 GTS (GT 911's out of budget) or something totally different ?? but it would have to be able to do the Euro trips as hope to go again soon.

All views welcome on things i may of missed, potential replacements, potential daily / track car and especially those that have moved into others cars and maybe back to a CR.

TIA Fordy

Running something special as a daily, soon takes the shine off it.
I much prefer running 2 contrasting cars, as you have been. That way, when you do get out in the weekend warrior, you appreciate it all the more.
Just my 2 pence worth. I'm sure others will have different views!

PS, I had a manual peridot CR with CCB's, and was running a 330d at the same time. I traded up to a manual 997 GTS, and always wished I'd stuck with the CR.

Thanks, anything in particular made you wish you had stuck with the CR rather than the GTS ?

Why not get a sensible daily and track the CR?

I probably should of mentioned this in original post as it's a fair comment and for some a viable option. Although I am not an out and out novice on track I am by no means experienced. I have had 'moments' on track, which makes me think I don't want that happening in the R if that makes sense.

Oh interesting as I have been thinking the 997 GTS would be the next step after an R. Then I start to think, from the cabin view, upto the B pillar, its pretty much the same - obviously some change, but I wonder if it would seem that different. Is the ride as stiff as the R?

Alpine A110S? Identical width but 200kg lighter than the CR. It's one of the few cars I'd consider after selling mine.

I tried the A110S. Sadly had a terrible experience.

But frankly, the CR or 987 Spyder is much more special IMHO.

Pull 200kg out of your CR and it would be very special

I’m curious to hear more about the A110S - what made it a bad experience for you?

ETA: just found your post here.

Yes. Perhaps I was unlucky, but regardless of the fault with my car, just never found it as special as my 987.2.

Maybe the 4 cylinder engine just isn’t as characterful as the 6 cylinder in the Porsche.

The issues I had with the A110 begin as soon as you get in,

1. Where do you put your water bottles?
2. Where do you put your phones?
3. Where do you put your jackets?

Agree with water bottles but phones and jackets?

Phones can go in the are below the gear selector. Jackets in boot or behind the seat. Unless its a suit jacket maybe.

I love the A110. Had one for a week in Mallorca and hopefully buy one sometime.

I actually test drove an A110 and A110S before buying my CR. I loved the size and how lightweight it felt, but did feel a bit underwhelmed on the short drive I took in each:

- Steering felt numb compared to the 987
- Drivetrain was boring, not a huge amount of power and an auto box shifting smoothly to a 4 cyl soundtrack
- Interior felt ‘loose’, maybe just perceived quality

That said, I love the ethos of a new sports car that is small and lightweight. My experience is at odds with pretty much all of the motoring press, so I’m wondering if it’s one of those cars that grows on you.

I'd love to be able to add a Cayman R to my garage as a track toy. Just need a spare £30K laying around! laugh

All this chat about Cayman R’s has inspired me and I really fancy one. Anything specific to look out for, as these are getting on for 12-14+ years old now ?
