Do these have an LSD?
Yep, but most are ineffectual unless they’ve been rebuilt with upgraded plates.

Ah No Way! Jamie mentioned about seeing a Peridot R at a meet and I didn't realise you were Essex. It says alot about the R that it took something a bit special to want to make me move on and trust me I've been looking at alot of stuff since Covid eased...

I had considered a hotted up 997.1 S but knew I'd regret selling the R. I've only one indoor garage spot too so can only keep one car at a time.

I did that trip to Scotland last month with 9x 911's and that was the final straw that broke me re. going to a 911. I've always wanted to own a 911 with true Motorsport engine so at 52 did the jump. I've gone in with eyes wide open re. Maintenance costs too. This ones about half way thru it's refresh that most start to need around this mileage (60k) but I'm in contact with owners going back nearly 18 years into its history.

Lack of traction control means most (all!) have had some offs. Haven't unearthed anything specific on this one but I'm not naive enough to think it hasn't had something in its early days

Yeah ive known him a while now and lives in the next village, lovely genuine bloke and had a lot of cars inc a number of 996 GT3s in his time. Youve got yourself a very honest and special car there. An upgrade id love to be able to do myself.

Definitely looks stock to me judging by the rear wheel arch gap.

I know the rear wiper is divisive but I thought this was an interesting insight from an interview with Pinky Lai published today on YT. He discusses his original intention for the 996 front wiper and it wasn't to be (cost wise) but not all was lost! wink

video should start at the right point if not, 8mins 10 secs.

This one looks nicer, it would be perfect it only it had something to wipe the rear window.

Hi guy’s,

Looking for some advise on purchasing an R, new to the world of Porsche and wanted to know what common issues to look for? If there are any big ticket service items or common issues that need to be addressed etc.

What are servicing costs like at a specialist?

Are there any specialist that offer a pre sale inspection?

Cheers
Adam
Relatively bullet proof
Some niggly items eg coolant crossover pipes, rotted radiators, tired dampers etc
Gearshift cables can also go
Some say underbraked as standard
Exhaust valves / connections rust

No generic engine or box issues with these

Rpm, JZM, Ashgood, 9e are all specialists who know them inside out. I had a minor service done at Porsche recently for 650

They can be warrantied so consider that if a car you find has full OPC history

Spec is key:

Carbon buckets
PSE
Manual
Spyder wheels
Climate
Sports chrono
Sports steering wheel

We can point you in the direction of a veritable “investment” car in green for 60k if you are mad or loaded

Or like everyone else you’ll prob end up with a white one for 40-45k because that’s the right money and there are more white than any other colour

That red one went quick. Just catching up after a busy work week, didn't even see it advertised. But I guess examples with 9k mileage are very rare. Let's hope that the new owner actually uses it too.

Out of interest, what was the asking price on it?
