These images were posted on Rennlist. It's looking pretty aggressive, it's a shame the engine doesn't have a sound to match...

Hopefully it sounds good. If not, exhaust and or headers will change that! Hope it comes out this week but the rumor was started by one individual on pff. Hope they are right

Not sure I'd take that gamble. Removing the warranty on a brand new unproven engine is not something I'd do lightly.

As for the sound, there are several recent videos of GT4s and Spyders on the Nordschleife. They sound bassy, flat and uninspiring to me e.g.

Regs and MOT will stop any after market stuff now.

Hoping that an announcement happens this week. Can't take much more of the speculation lol.

Or any aftermarket stuff will have to satisfy all the appropriate regulations including the particulate filter ...

It’s incredible to me that after such a long development period, hundreds of ‘spy’ pics that nobody outside of Porsche knows for sure what engine the 718 GT4 will have.

I think that's because they've been comparing two options for years - 3.0 F6T or 4.0 F6 NASP - both with and without PDK. Which is why the mules keep sounding different, it's because there are four configurations out there and the GPF system on the NASP engine keeps changing.

All just guesswork and IMHO. I have no cleaning lady info.

Vehicle development doesn't work like that I'm afraid. The amount of work involved in tuning all the various systems is huge.....tuning a variant that wouldn't eventually make it to production would be totally un-viable.

I had to drop by the 'Ring yesterday to pick a car up from there, and stopped to have a quick look at Industry Pool. There were two GT4s lapping, one with a PDK box and one with a manual. I'm almost certain that the thing will just be the 3.8L 425PS engine that we see in the Clubsport.

New video posted yesterday of the session RacerMike is talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5F9Bthu-yQ

Car reg 8791
First car then not seen again. Seems finished. PCCBs. Manual gearbox. Raspy exhaust.

Car reg 8810
Most common car. Seems finished. PCCBs. Low and bassy exhaust note. PDK gearbox. Sounds a lot like the 992 that follows it at 0:25. High speed drive-by at 2:38.

Car reg 8530
Appears at 1:25, 3:50 and 5:00, has the foam inserts in the wheel arches. Red steel brakes. Manual gearbox. Slightly higher pitched/raspier exhaust note?

Agreed - at this point is impossible to tell what it might be running.
The Power kitted 3.8 with 420ish as per the clubsport - would be fine i think and these cars in the industry pool videos don't really sound different than the 718 Clubsport.
https://youtu.be/7lszfjN42j0

But, I feel like this is just a long walk to disappointment and being underwhelmed at this point... update for updates sake, because 718... will it just be fringe tweaks? For the GT4 - and then the final hurrah - for the RS - which i have heard again... is coming.

Thing is... actually the game has moved on....the sound is never going to be the same as prior to GPF/OPF - so if you're after a new car for sound - you'll be disappointed. So then for the PU its got to be about the responsiveness and power delivery. For the chassis - it's the dynamics, grip, control and feel.

In person, they all sound identical apart from the gearshifts. 100% it's an NA F6. One thing was clear though....the ratios in the PDK are definitely shorter than the manual. PDK car did a 2-3 or 3-4 shift between the two corners of Brunchen. The manual pulled one long gear from corner to corner with the revs being noticeably lower from apex to apex.

I suppose there's a possibility it could be a 4.0L still....but I'd be surprised. More likely would just be an WLTP filter equipped 3.8 with roughly similar power to the Clubsport. Bear in mind that GT4 regs don't actually allow a different engine to the production car. In fact...the only GT4 or GT3 car I can think of that had a none standard engine was the Z4 GT3.

Indeed, it will be interesting to see, I don't want bangs and pops created every 20 seconds unless they are created naturally. With all these modern systems, its crap, annoying and boring! In my 987, it was all about the engine behind my head making the noise, and it was for me, the Carnewal did help it a fair bit....

Unfortunately based on these videos... we aren't getting getting the benefits of induction or mechanical music either though... just blaring.

Indeed. I believe the 981 is the homologation car for the current race cars, the road going 718 GT4 can have any engine it wants.

I think PDK is going to be the way to go on a 718 GT4, add the Clubsport pack (buckets/cage) you'll have a road going Clubsport model.

Of course. I have an issue with modern cars with wings having manual gearboxes though.

I just think it's wrong - a personal thing. That's why I loved the 991.2 GT3 Touring.
