I am in the market for a 997.1 GT3, ideally Club Sport or one with folding buckets.

The ones currently advertised have been up for some time with not much movement.

That doesn't necessarily make the one's on the market right now indecent in any way. They are a niche product and tend to take a while to find buyers, and the situation we've faced for much of the year probably hasn't been helpful in this regard. Have you been to look at/drive any of them? I wouldn't discount them on the basis that they've been for sale for some time.

?

been a few up most have sold in CS spec. just the normal comforts left as normal.

OPC just got a new CS spec on in at £80k in silver.
JZM just sold 2 minters, the red private one went and was the best, one nice private on which is new to market.

the best cars sell as normal, you have to be quick.

Matt J also had a minter and sold fast.

That's 4 mint CS spec cars which have sold in the last month alone.

None of the Gen 1 997 GT3's will have folding buckets. They only came with/at Gen2.

+1

Also the buckets that come with 997.1 CS may not be suitable for everybody as they're quite skinny, OP may find needs to upgrade them to something like the Recaro Pole Position XL. Mine's not a CS, but I fitted the Recaro's and despite being "XL" I still find them quite snug

Did you go to look at any of them 911R?

I chose mine based on condition, previous expenditure and maintenance/ownership etc. and found it extremely difficult to determine that any of them were "minters" based on pictures and descriptions from online adverts.

By the way, it's quite possible that "comfort" spec cars can also be mint - and they're equally good to drive and very very far from "normal" (and easier to use).

Yes I wouldn't discount a good comfort spec car. The 997,s are knocking on a bit now. So buy on condition and history. Hopefully you will know if you have brought the right car.
I brought mine 8 years ago , full warranty all of its life. Serves my purpose not having the buckets.

I can understand if you do only track days. But as I use mine for touring the seats are great.

Sadly not quite in the market atm but keep a keen eye on what looks nice with history and spec's as far as one can online.

the 5 or 6 cars sold to me looked the best and thus have sold so must have been right, the older ones left have service gaps and look a bit tatty imo.
You can gain a lot from pictures and history, I ripped the CC cars car apart and people did not like me doing it !
Spend, not so fussed if it's got full service history on time, as I plan to rip every normal item out of the car.
So if it's 25k miles, has mint paint(stone chips ok) with a full service book and good provenance, with a good dealer you get a VERY good idea of the car without looking for real.
Any real life view if issue you just knock off money if you want to buy, hence why I would NOT buy a 997 from unknow dealers or Redline as an example for this sort of car again Sytner select are normally failed some checks so end up at Select over a main dealer.
I would hope a good dealer will present a good car.

the new white private one looks nice but a tad toppy in price as it's comfort 997.2 money !
yesterday an OPC a silver CS car up also.
I would buy a comfort but needs to be £65/67k. not >£70k no value in it for me. the CS seats are £22k to buy ! and a set of Carbon Recaro's done right with mounts is £6k, so the comforts are way too expensive and some been up over a year.

I liked the look of the MJ car but that sold within a week, the red private one was ultra mint and cheap, so some ones got a steel imho.
you can tell nice cars these days with the photo's and provenance.

The Octain car as an example has missing service gaps so would not even waste my time and a lot of these cars do.

So that leaves 2 cars I would look at, the kent private car which is a lazy advert and on P zero's so needs a chat if serious , and the new silver OPC car with 2 year warranty on new cups's

If I had the money I would be making an offer on the Kent private car at £75k. And wanting a nice history book inc the failed "Offside Rear Hydraulic brake cylinder " MOT issue which I am sure has been sorted. paint should be ok looks like it has full frontal PPF.

or making an offer on the new silver OPC car at £78k with 2 year warranty and new tyres.

both these look great cars without viewing. So you can rule all the others out ;-)

If you want a CS car, and want to convert a comfort into CS spec, maybe.

But in that instance you'd be far better off just buying a CS car. The price for a comfort car should not be the price of a CS car minus the cost of the seats and cage, as that approach assumes that no-one would prefer a comfort car for their purposes. I find it bizarre that the car seemingly in more demand today is so, precisely because it was not the popular choice when the cars could be ordered new. The under-supply now (or rarity, if you like), is exactly what's creating the demand, and it's the same across the Porsche spectrum, but it strikes me that a lot of people are not being honest with themselves about what they actually want from the car (other than a good return on their "investment"). I don't think the usage patterns/criteria for this type of car has changed that much in the last 12 years.

that's a given other wise a comfort would be £55k ;-). market value for a comfort has to start with a 6 that's just the market and a CS spec car is circa £75/80k depending on miles, maybe a bit less private sale as seen by the minter red one which went down to £72,995.

Nothing wrong with a comfort but IMO A GTS is a better car if you are after a road only touring 997 model, better road engine, lower ratio's and comforts + sell like hot cakes and £10k less again. Comfort GT market 2nd hand is very tiny if it's even there at all it's 0.5 % buyers.
been a few realy nice comfort cars come for sale but are still for sale.

The mint red 997.1 gt3 club sport was returned to its owner, it failed to sale even after a price drop.

The white one at jzm has paint damage to the one rear wheel arch and stone chips.

I follow these very closely and made a offer on the red cs which was rejected buy it’s owner, in my opinion it was the best of the bunch.

If you follow these closely you will know how long some of these have been on and off sale for.

The none CS red one with stickers all over it and painted gold wheels was a private sale at retail CS money, the owner was also trying to sell it via Instragram pretty recently so may still be for sale. I haven’t viewed this car so I’m not sure if it’s condition in real life.

The best sale I have seen recently was the low miles
white high spec bucket seat car at a rrp of 69k at ashgood, even had two years opc warranty and excellent service history.

I believe Ashgoods may have on coming in shortly.

Do you actually drive, or just follow and hope to 'invest'?

You seem to be one of the posters in here who know about values while knowing little about worth.

I drive all my cars regularly and my motor bikes, I do not drive one of my classic cars as I bought it to look at if I’m being honest.

I’m not a car track day person and enjoy using my cars regularly on the road for what they are designed for. I do occasionally track and enter events on my bikes during the summer.

I have never bought a car to invest in. The reason I follow 997 gt3 prices closely is I would like to replace two of my cars for one. I’m yet to find one that I personally think is suitable, I would like to think this future purchase will be a keeper like one of my other cars is.

No right or wrong Braddo we are all different, some track day them, some drive the ass off them on the road, some bought to invest, some buy a new car every year.

There are many poster on here all a little different, some clearly have knowledge on driving, some think they do, some who say they know the prefect spec car and what sells and what doesn’t.

It would be very boring place if these people where all the same.

"I’m yet to find one that I personally think is suitable" ?

been some good cars now though, 2 atm look good, and the MJ car looked good, what's stopping you buying one ?

If you made an offer on the private red one that was already under priced imo.
there are a few people on here who want to rob a car off some one and keep putting in low ball offer's, are you one of those ?
having sold quite a lot of cars to PH members you get to know who these people are.

the prices are right as there have been 5 cars sold pretty fast. The private Kent cars looks mint and the new OPC car looks mint !
why are neither of those suitable ? out of interest.

you talk the 991.2 GT3 down but only one manual left at OPC now, but you keep saying PDK no difference but loads of them for sale. !
So I do find your posts a bit strange as you have not bought anything.

I am always buying stuff.

EFA. Yes I think we've all noticed that David smile

Perhaps he has a budget and is sticking to it (a bit like you have a budget for the mythical 997.1 GT3 you're going to buy). Added to which, over the coming months there will most likely be some distress sales of GT3's of all shapes and sizes ... For those prepared to wait, there'll no doubt be some bargains.

Quite frankly what value someone else attaches to a car they're interested in buying, and is prepared to pay for it, is their business. IF they come on here and ask very specifically what the other forum members think it's worth AND what they should pay for it, that's an entirely different matter altogether smile

Really like that. Not a million miles off my own car, but the cage is painted white, rather than black.

I think the white, with white centre console, gives the car a bit more cohesive and 'racecar' look, but I wonder if you get more reflections?

A: it's none of your business :-p as that post was directed at the poster. To change peoples posts for effect is daft and nothing is "mythical" !

and

B: I asked the Poster "why are neither of those suitable ? out of interest." which deserves a reply only from the poster.

c: Quote :
"what value someone else attaches to a car they're interested in buying, and is prepared to pay for it, is their business"

Not if that car will never be that price as the poster talks down all cars prices daily as people have noted and that get's a bit dull/wannabe if it's the same person year on year but no buys.

we all think the Kent car looks the buy atm and there is an OPC car with 2 years warranty and new tyres if whites not the colour.
interested why neither of these are suitable.

I am not in the market atm as I stated, but long term it's a car which ticks some box's to mod but I'll get an Exige 410 before a 997 GT3.
Not quite ready for my life Project build yet as want to still try a few cars and Covid has put things back 18 months at least so will be running the 991.2 GT3 next summer when it was planned to go end of this summer. Many trips and things were planned and canceled in this car for me.
As you know I bought other play things to have a go in and own 5 cars and have sold a few cars, I don't post or gloat on all the cars I buy like some members.
