I'm just about to press the button on a 991.2 GT3... but whilst in the dealer I noticed a 991.1 GT3RS.

It's 20k more and it's only a year older and of course is lacking some of the the new tech in you get in the .2. But when it comes to finance and residuals they basically cost the same.

It's going to be for road use 90% of the time.

Is the RS a real compromise on the road compared to the standard GT3? Or are the upgrades in the .2 enough to usurp the RS.

What would you go for?

Interesting choice.

My mate put 20k miles on his RS, all road miles, so not too harsh, depends what you are used to.

I’ve got a non RS GT3 and that suits my needs better (room in the back as no cage) very marginally more compliant on road. Performance the same on road in reality.

Are they both club sport spec?

What about colour etc?

GT3 in my opinion

You’d struggle to put much between them on track, on road it’s a much better drive. The engine is a marvel and it won’t blow up. You could even get a manual. Bliss.

Unless you love the looks of the RS, why spend 20k more, the GT3 is THE perfect road car IMHO

Looks it is the RS.

Reliability and drive the 991.2 GT3 is a superior car.

991.1 GT3 RS suffer engine failures, so an OPC is an absolute must, they also only rev to 8800rpm in first two gears I believe, the limiter is then reduced to around 8400rpm in higher gears to try and protect the engine, but quite a few have failed which Porsche have covered as long as under warranty.

In short best way to decide is:

Want manual go 991.2
Want best looks and sound go 991.1
Want best reliability and bit more understated with a stronger engine, go 991.2

It is a tough choice, for me I want a 991.1 in ultra violet as I love the looks.

Also the market is a little unknown at moment, prices are showing signs of a potential softening and hard times could be coming but GT3's are special so the pricing may not drop, could go up, if your buying to keep and enjoy then it does not matter anyway.

I had a similar dilemma. The RS carries the drama, and to some, the looks. The Gen 2 is the newer car, arguably the better engine and probably just as quick on the road. There were a few reports on engine issues even affecting the revised 4.0 in the 991.1 RS which was enough to sway me to the Gen 2 GT3 and that’s the car that is now sat in my garage. Now that I’ve got the car to me it’s also the better looking machine. Sometimes the RS looks like it’s trying too hard, especially on a public road.

991.2 GT3 100%. Went from a 991.1 RS to 991.2 Touring as doing less track days/wanted a more understated road car. Motor that revs to 9k fabulous in the 2. GT3.

Haha.!

Assuming both are PDK?

For primarily road car… 991.2 GT3.

As others have said.. newer car, 2nd gen engine is stronger and a masterpiece. As for ride… in normal mode it’s really pretty good on the road, imo. It is a sports car.

RS does have more drama… but is a bit of a tougher ride, but still acceptable IMO, and has even more mechanical noise. But being a .1 carries the potential risk on the engine, although if buying from OPC this might be mitigated.

How is the gearing on the regular 991.1 GT3? Same as the 991.1 RS?

I've heard it said that the RS is a track car for occasional road use and the normal car is a road car for occasional track use. It would be the newer and cheaper car for me.

RS has slightly lower gearing to compensate for the bigger 21'' rear wheels hence the lower top speed

Same gearbox ratios, but the final drive ratio in the RS is adjusted by the 21" tyre size increase vs 20" in the gt3 such that the effective gear ratios is the same.

I’d agree with this.

Congratulations - the 991.2 GT3 market is still very hot especially clubsports. I considered a 458 but decided they seemed overpriced compared to the newer .2 GT3 which I went with 6 weeks ago. Meanwhile, the 458's I looked at are still unsold but now coming down in price.

Very nice.

What colour are those wheels? Is it the same shade as those on the 992 GT3?

Looks great - good choice and good luck with the purchase. I sold my 991.1 GT3 RS. I found it too biased for track use so if you want to use it as a daily driver as well I think this is the right choice.
