Large/flat stone “chip” - repair options?

Would welcome thoughts on how to approach correcting this minor damage on the top of the front wing on my 718 Cayman.




I have no idea how the damage occurred as I wasn’t aware of any impact whilst using the car.

Do I go down the smart repair route or approach an OPC? I guess it’s too small for somewhere like Shorade or Chartwells?

I can’t see past it at the moment so leaving it is not an option as the car is immaculate otherwise!

Would welcome any recommendations in the Derby / Midlands area for a repair

I would expect a respray is required, best to speak to your local Porsche Recommended Body Repairer which looks to be Chartwell in Derby:

If your handy you could try Chipex it is a bit painful but you gradually build up the level and then blend it in, not as good as a respray but acceptable and a lot better than you have at the minute.

If its not good enough then get it sprayed.

Good paint guy/ detailer will sort that. Build up the layers then wet sand it back, repeat and will be virtually invisible. Also if the car is original paint you'll retain that factor and also none of the issues with colour matching.

It was lucky it was still in primer and they didn't get round to putting the top coat on.

But seriously, that is a chip repair. It doesn't need a respray.

I think I would start with chipsaway or the like , then if result not satisfactory a bodyshop probably Porsche

I wish I knew a decent local detailer who could undertake such a minor repair but unfortunately I do not

Call round some local main dealers and ask. Someone will know who to use.

Fill, sand, orbital polish.
Takes guts but you will be surprised what you can polish out after you have wet sanded touch up paint (non metallic) with 1200-1500 grit.
Can be invisible.

Definitely try Chipsaway….had bigger paint chips / dents than that sorted by them…
