Yes I've seen Tims car several times and it's a beauty eek His attention to detail with the engine is astounding and he's been involved with engine building for decades so I'm sure it drives like nothing else in the UK. Blade7 has all the bits to build a mega engine for his own cool car but to date I don't believe he's started

Those wheels just look wrong on a 944, but easily fixed.

Trouble is £40k buys alot of other cars and a standard 944 turbo or 968 ClubSport would be great drives and better ways to spend some of that money.

I like the styling of the 968CS, but wouldn't fancy the prospect of not being able to shake off every yoof in a £7K Fiesta ST, in my £40k Porsche.
If it must to a Porsche then my £40k choice list would be (in no particular order):

- 996 turbo
- 997 C2S
- 987 Cayman R
- 987 Spyder

All would be preferable to a modified 944 however well it was done. No offence to the seller as I do love the 944 S2 but a 944 turbo would be on the list for less if I wanted a faster 944.

Sometimes it's not all about speed, more a case of how it drives and looks.

My greatest problem with the 996 Turbo was the brakes ...

A heavy fast car ... I had a tractor pull out in front of me and I can still feel the pedal softening into a stop inches away from a very solid surface ...

Value and usage ? 996.2GT3 ? 997.1GT3 ? with 60k ish to drive ... and a very good service history which you will maintain ... for well below your budget.

Or you could buy two collectables and share the mileage ? Within your budget ... and they may be an investment .. ??

depends. If you are buying it for the mods and the nutty BHP or, if you are after just a super clean example then I think this is better value with no notable difference in quality

That I think is the problem - I love the shape of the 944 and always have, but they have never turned my head since I could actually afford one as 250BHP by that time was a bit meh! So I never looked again, ever, for years. Then I stumbled across this. So I'm looking because I love the car, but I'm only looking because it can now probably press on a tad! confused

ETA Looks like that one is now sold

I haven't 100% decided but probably won't - the viewing was a little disappointing - the passenger rear wheel was rubbing on the arch and was deforming the panel and I couldn't see the main event as when the dealer pulled the bonnet release the cable snapped. I know it's 30 year old but it's also a lot of money.

No I didn't. To be fair the dealer made it clear that offers would be considered. Like I said to him on Saturday, my only real concern is what do I do with it in say 2 or 3 years when and if I want to move it on. Such a small market. So I left to go and ponder.

Thats the thing with modded cars. It was delivered on 16 inch forged alloys. 18 inch wheels and 600bhp. Its chassis is certainly capable of handling circa 400-450bhp.The size of turbo you would have to put on to make 450bhp happen i reckon it may be overly laggy to drive hence real world no faster than a normal 250bhp turbo you can use all the power all the time.

S2 has very similar D90 also 16 inch. She's on beautiful 18 inch GT3 Mk 1 alloys. Maybe they're too big with alloys with the rubbing though? I'd go for the red Ashley Nickels car a half the money personally. Looks lovely and now sold. Not easy to find a good 944 turbo s.
