New Macan S vs GTS?
Discussion
Just had a demo Macan S and really impressed! Never driven one before oddly despite having a few Cayennes over the years.
I think the Macan is the perfect size.
Think I’m going to get one, has anyone tried the T out of interest? I’m a sucker for the T and have a 991T which I love, but can’t help thinking I’d regret not going for the bigger engine.
Reviews are on the fence, some say it’s rubbish and some say it’s great so I’m a bit confused…smaller wheels, lighter engine, nice interior sounds really appealing!
It will be for mainly city driving and the odd trip with the dog.

I owned a T for 3 months and it was great. My first Porsche and I had no other model to compare it with.
It handled extremely well. I didn't mind the 4 pot but did think it could have done with a bit more power.
Shame it doesn't have the power of the Golf R despite sharing same engine.
Interestingly, I've recently been invited to try an S by a local OPC and will give it a go.
Looking forward to seeing how they compare considering the advice on most of the forums from S and GTS owners is to avoid the T and just go with the S.

Definitely drive one with the base engine first. I haven't driven a T but have driven both a base car and an S. I would absolutely pay the extra to get the S personally. I have nothing against 4 pot engines (I owned a 718 Cayman S and liked it a lot) but didn't get on with the one in the Macan.I've got a gen 1 GTS, and a recent (2023 model) base Macan.
For my use case (daily local use + several long (1000+ miles) trips per year) the base is really great, and is a lot more frugal than the GTS. The base has sufficient power for my needs (but maybe it helps that I have a GT4 as well
), and returns approximately 10l/100km, compared with 12 or more for the GTS (although that's obviously the older model/engine).
Personally I wouldn't bother with the T - I don't think you can compare that with a 911T or 718T...

Excellent thanks folks. Got a drive in the T arranged so will be interesting to see how it compares.
The sound is my biggest concern but not a deal breaker by any means and if handles better and is more economical it could make a lot of sense.
There was a sold volcano grey T in the showroom and it looked superb. Got to hand it to Porsche they don’t have know what they’re doing..!

How long does it take to get a new S delivered at the moment? A mate of mine said his OPC has allocation for Q2 but does that mean the car will arrive in Q2? That sounds a bit fast to me for a bespoke spec and I would have thought it would be closer to six months or so.
Forgive the ignorance by the way!

Thanks for the response. They apparently said something about having Macan S allocation in Q2 - but does that mean they will be ordering the car in Q2? He seems to think they mean that’s when it will actually arrive (but that seems awfully fast for a custom specced car of any brand, let alone a Porsche)?. He has a new vehicle order form with his selected options listed.
I guess this is down to the Porsche definition of ‘allocation’.

Drove the T on 21” wheels (the S had 20’”) and it’s brilliant! I truthfully don’t understand how anyone can say it’s underpowered, maybe my expectations are different (my daily is a New Defender) but it’s quick enough for my needs.
The Defender is a fantastic machine but it’s nowhere near as accomplished to be honest. I now get why the Macans so popular.
The steering feel and ride are phenomenal and you can feel there’s less weight over the front axle. With the sports exhaust it’s sounds not unlike the current crop of Rally Cars albeit quietened down a bit. Couldn’t be more impressed.
I was exceptionally cynical as a 991T owner when the Macan T was launched but don’t rule it out!
A guy was picking up his 992 GT3 while I was there, my goodness what a monster of a car. Don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone smile so much! Lucky man!

If you get the allocation it will be approx 2 month to delivery.Got mine last April and was put back 1 month for something, arrived in middle July. Its a nice piece of kit and glad I went for the bigger engine as it is fast if you want it to be, air suspension is brilliant for our crap roads and "Haptics" are great to use. I went for the 20s and they are perfect for me. Got the electric towbar fitted which is hidden unless you want to use it, rear camera picks it up as well.Forgive the ignorance by the way!

Is there any love for the base model? I’m thinking about a white one with just a few extras.
I test-drove a Gen II Macan S, so 340bhp and no sports exhaust, and thought it was really rather dull. The performance felt adequately strong without ever feeling interesting, and I simply couldn't hear it, no matter what provocation you gave it. My wife would doubtless have thought it perfect.I then tried a friend's Gen I GTS, so 355bhp and sports exhaust, and despite that being only a marginal difference in power, it just felt much more fun and interesting - it added all the snap, crackle and pop missing from the S I tried.
So I can only imagine that the base 2.0 is basically a posh run-around for Chelsea nannies.
I was looking at GTS but a nice oak green metallic fully loaded S can up. Bar the power is pretty much GTS. Sport Chrono, sports exhaust, PASM air, 21" RS alloys and 18 way seats.
In normal mode it is very very relaxed. Only down side is the pedal is programmed long and slow. Still handles
very nicely though. In sport + it's a different beast! Proper quick overtakes and carved up the curves. I prefer the interior leather and exterior styling on the S to the GTS. But it could do with that extra few ponies.

Yep surprising how little difference.
For me the handling differences would have pushed me to a GTS. But the green S I've landed has all the GTS suspension options so I'm happy.
I don't like the pedal in normal, but in sport or sport + it's mapped differently and works well. So Sport Chrono is a must as well as the PASM air suspension.
