New Porsche Cayenne Diesel
Discussion
Has anybody tried the Cayenne Diseasal off road??
Had a chance to play with the new RR 4.4 litre Diesel on & off road last week courtesy of Land Rover -OMG and wow, even Mrs Melv was impressed.....
How do they compare with the Merc ML, the interior of which I somehow find lacking in comparison....

I'm sure the RR will be superior - the Cayenne does not even have a low ratio box. That said, any offroading I do will be minimal - mine will be my daily driver/family car.Had a chance to play with the new RR 4.4 litre Diesel on & off road last week courtesy of Land Rover -OMG and wow, even Mrs Melv was impressed.....

Ordered early in Sep. To be fair the dealer parked me in to cancelled order slot. I went for a big spec with 21” turbo 2 alloys, air sus, pan roof ect, and Sports seats which are must. Came out at just over 60k,
I understand that build slots are now 6-8 months out. Not sure what the off road performance is like, It has enough to cope with Uk weather as in hill decent ect. Wish I had gone for the multifunction wheel. The 8 speed box is so good it makes the paddles obsolete.

Sports seats you say!!! Are they more comfortable than the standard, or just more supportive?I understand that build slots are now 6-8 months out. I agree that the sports wheel is not needed due to the box being so good. Seemed pointless driving it in anything other than full auto mode.

Both at 300.00 over the comfort type, they are a must have, along with Pan roof, air sus, and 21" turbo2s.
Whats also intresting is MPG. The RR sport 3.0 does 22-24 thats it no more no less. Out of the box first 600 miles the Cayenne average 35.7. Thats mixed cross country thrash ect.

Thanks for that - impresive! Was definitely going for Air but that's given me some food for thought .... I have a few months to consider options! Both at 300.00 over the comfort type, they are a must have, along with Pan roof, air sus, and 21" turbo2s.

Why buy a diesel when you can buy a petrol? I don't understand the rational:
- if you wanted economical: buy lighter car and not 4x4
- if you wanted silent: buy petrol or hybrid
- if you think they are safer in the wet: I don't think high gravity center and weight helps
Go the full way: turbo cayenne
I'm confused...please explain

I want a 4x4 so a car is not in the equation- if you wanted economical: buy lighter car and not 4x4

Hybrid is awful unless all your driving is in town
Happy?

Got 30mpg overall from a tankful in a RR Vogue Diseasal......
So back to the Cayenne.....no low ratio -assume it relies on the electronic wizardry? -I seem to remember they've dropped the diff lock too.....oh dear....
Let's be absolutely clear - the Cayenne is not really designed as a mud plugger. It's a large, relaxed family car with a superb driving position, great handling and SOME off road capabilities should you end up in a field or down a dirt track. Got 30mpg overall from a tankful in a RR Vogue Diseasal......

I called in and took one for a test drive on Saturday. Fell in love with it. I have a 3.0 d X5, but this was in a different class.
Dealer told me delivery time of 12-14 weeks.
Once you start adding the toys it came in at c£55k, which is actually what the X5 cost new.
Ask the dealer to put that delivery in writing. I bet they won't. If they do then please let me know the dealer as I will use them Dealer told me delivery time of 12-14 weeks.

Would prefer not to name in case salesman thinks he's got a sale!

Was a different class on some aspects or just as an overall package? Is your X5 an Msport one? I've had an old shape Cayenne and liked it a lot. We now have a twin turbo diesel X5 Msport, my only complaint about the X5 is how harsh the suspension is over bumps, otherwise I'd say the X5 is a better car than the old Cayenne, albeit I appreciate the new Cayenne is supposed to be quite a bit better than the previous model. How did it compare with the single turbo X5 for grunt? I'd be worried that the Cayennes Audi 3 litre lump would be a bit lacking compared with the twin turbo Beemer diesel. Dealer told me delivery time of 12-14 weeks.

Reason for asking all of this is that the Mrs still hankers after her old Cayenne so a new shape one may come back onto the horizon at some point in the future!

Just the standard, non M Sport X5 for me, but it does have plenty of poke if needed. Definitely the Cayenne seemed to be a bit nippier.
I've a V10 RS6 as a daily car, had a look at the Cayenne and whilst the interior looked absolutely superb, the exterior....didn't.
Better than the last model, but still massively compromised on the styling front, with a tiny boot.
And there's the image...mmmmmm
I realise it will be an appeal to RRS man with the Project Kahn't wheels and the ubiquitous private plate, but why consider this over perhaps an RS6 Avant or BMW Estate ?.

For me it's the wonderful high driving position and the "good feeling" it gives you when driving. I do not need or want an estate but I want one practical car so it's either a hatchback or something a little different. For me the Cayenne fits the bill perfectly. I test drove a RRS, ML, Q5 and X5 about 4 months ago and decided a 4x4 was not for me. Then I drove the Cayenne - it is so much different.
For the record I'd say it was fair to say that I'm far from being a "Project Kahn" man and neither do I have the ubiquitous private plate. I'm surprised that a 911 owner would be into stereotyping people so easily!
Did you actually drive the Cayenne BTW?

Passing OPC Nottingham - i popped in to have a look around. Must of been 5or6 Cayenne's hanging around. One of these - a Meteor Grey 'S' had the sports exhaust (4 tail-pipes) - that option deffo needs ticking, they made the rear look awesome. £1400 option apparently. My fave though was a black diesel with black wheels (silver-rim) -

Yes driven one and was very impressed. It's the image it portrays and styling, that I have an issue with. I'm not a 'vegetablist' by any means, but if I turned up in one of those to a surf comp or even a client meeting, then the ribbing I would take from all who knew me would be huge. I'm afraid it would be justified.
It is possibly, with the RRS, the most uncool car know to man.
As far as the sterotyping, just take a look at the next RRS driver....I mean come on.;)
