Hi
Looking for recommendations for a new full set of tyres for my 1990 944 S2. It has the original D90's and I'm looking for a decent summer tyre. I don't really want to pay Michelin pilot sport 4 prices. I don't do track days, so I do not need very stiff side walls. It's actually quite tricky finding matching sets as I've got staggered wheels.
So far I've narrowed it down to Pirelli cintuano p7, or Avon zv7.
Tyre sizes are 205 55 16 front and 225 50 16.

Any experience or suggestions very welcome.

I ran Falcon’s on my 944, after recommendations from a lot of 944 owners. I was more than happy with them. Can’t remem sizes now though.

Another vote for rainsports. Not the stiffest sidewalls but they grip like you wouldn't believe, even on frosty mornings.

There are Porsche recommended 'N' spec tyres in those exact sizes - same as 911 Carrera 3.2 and 964, I believe.

Think the choices are Continental, Pirelli or Michelin.

Same sizes as on a Ferrari 328

Its the rears in those sizes that are scarce. The front is a "shopping trolley size" that you can get from practically any manufacturer.

Much better choice of tyres in the rear size seems to be available in the US & elsewhere, but in the UK the Pirelli P7C appears to be about the best of the lot & easiest to get..

Not even sure Michelin have got anything, there might be a Bridgestone RE050 if you hunt around for them

Edited - in fact there seems to be more of these around than I thought. Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance look like they might be OK

Falken 452 / Continental Sports worked well for me on the road, and Dunlop Direzzas / Uniroyal Rainsport 3s for dry/wet track.

Thanks for all the replies some great suggestions. Those Bridgestones are great value. Some reviews suggest they have very stiff walls and can be uncomfortable, but grip is very good. I'm going to compare prices with the rainsports. Has anyone had experience with the Avon zv7?

No, put I have used the P7Cs in those sizes & I think they are pretty good.

And they're very close in price to the rainsports. I think it's between those and the p7c.
Thanks for your replies.

Continental Premium Contact 6 are now available in both these sizes.

Which did you choose?
