Agree they are not good, the 488s are so much better. No idea what the difference is.

Il keep everyone updated but please, if you have nothing constructive to say, keep it to yourself. Sick of the negative vibes in this post from apparent enthusiasts.
No one has been negative about the car, just the ridiculous/illegal/dangerous tint.

But i guess it's about bein' Gangsta on Insta ??

Tip on brakes take it out and do 10 huge 120 to 80 and 10 80 to 40 stops that should wake the brakes up a bit. They need abuse to keep them tip top. They are still crap compared to other similar cars though

I found the worst thing trying to drive through my village with cold brakes and the squealing would really turn people’s heads ! I got in the habit of pumping the brakes a few times as I went done my road to try and warm them up - once hot they are amazing on the motorway though

When new were ceramic brakes standard on the 458 or an option?
458's have only ever been available with ceramic as have all Ferraris since around 2008, I think 430 and 599 were the last you could spec steels although i'm not sure anybody actually got a 599 with steel brakes

I'd concur the 458 brakes have very poor feel, I had new pads recently and that seemed to improve things, as others have said later versions are much better.

Don't think that's correct. No steel brakes available for 458

They were standard on all 458s from launch with no Steel option. Hugely improved on the 488 which uses the much improved La Ferrari disc material.

I remember the day I picked up my first 458; first car with ceramics, which involved a trip down the A1 in persistent rain. I needed the brakes big time when a lorry pulled out in front of me.... absolutely nothing happened! Sat in the next lay-by for about 15 mins until I stopped shaking. They’ll be fine once you get used to them and you learn to keep the temperature in the pads.
I had exactly the same reaction in the California when I took it for a drive. Someone decided they didn’t need to look at the roundabout and sailed across in front of me and I was like where the hell are the brakes as my foot pressing was not eliciting the response expected. I honestly thought they’d fallen off such was the lack of stopping. A quick call to my mate who owned a Cali before and he was like oh yeah that will happen and they’ll squeak like mice are taped to the wheel until they’re warm so cruising round town is a nono unless they’re hot first!

As others have said the brakes need heat in them, and like mclaren they are not over-servoed so require a firm press race car style. Shifts should be smoother if you take it out of race (although I'm not sure why one would want to do that)

As for the tints - it's not just a matter of taste it's that they're bloody dangerous at night - hence why they're illegal. Listen to Durzel on this thread, he's talked a lot of sense, and most of all enjoy the car, the 458 is a cracker.

Lovely car, but I'm not keen on the tints. I don't profess to know about the legality but for me, it takes the car from fantastic to something I wouldn't want to be seen in (which I suppose is the point!) But it's a matter of personal taste and if it wasn't, we'd all be driving identical cars.

Sounds to me like a ‘tints - good or bad?’ Thread would soon be No1 on PH if someone started one !

Just realised why I don’t like the tints, it looks like a Tamiya model

Anyway - tints aside - joes it going ? Had any good blasts ? Does yours have the cruise control (pit lane) ? I find it handy with all the 50 mph zones on the motorway

I’m blown away to be frank. It’s everything I hoped and more. From the engine to the power, the stock noise, the elegance. It’s truly a Supercar of my dreams. 3 people have asked me if it’s a new car, which shows the quality of my car and the way the 458 has aged (hardly). It may as well be a brand new car to be honest. It’s pristine. Very lucky boy.

That glorious v8 is dying to come alive and my new exhaust system will do just that. The stock sound is great, but it has so much more to give with the Xpipe/Test Pipes.

It’s a shame the weather has taken a turn, but I’ve given it a good run in. The breaks are still a bit poor. Hoping to do some de good deglazing breaking runs when the weather is better.

The reception to the car has been fantastic. Tints are not an issue at all, despite the know it all’s on here. I’ve passed 3 police cars and was even pulled over by one for a road closure ahead. She commented how nice the car was. Didn’t give a toss about the tints or front plate.

Anyhow. It’s just a stunning piece of engineering and I’m absolutely blown away by every aspect of it.

Awesome - enjoy it - I’d have bought a 458 spider were it not for the fact that I am tall with a bad back ... can’t move the seats far enough back for me . . Gutted ! Bring it to South Wales and give me a call for a blast ! Quite a few 458 and 488s round here and we often meet up
