The K-Line system produces the high pitched sound as it’s an X-pipe configuration… from memory of the Ferrari chat thread it was just the back box.
You’re right. Having an X-pipe in the back box is essential to release the scream on the F430. The Capristo doesn’t have an X pipe.

New headers on an F430 won’t affect the sound much unless you change the configuration from 4-2-1 to 4-1 but will eliminate the risk of cat ingestion. Sports cats or test pipes will make it louder but won’t change the pitch.

I did a ton of research on the F430 exhaust system as my wife was going to buy one and the best replacement combo would be;
Capristo headers and sports cats followed by kline back box.

Improves the sound while eliminating the risk of cat ingestion and back box mount cracking.

This is spot on, and exactly what I’ve found from my research and applies to the 360 too.

I changed my headers to Challenge ones but kept the rest of it as stock and even then it's definitely louder, even other Ferrari owners spot the difference. Anything above 80 and it starts to drone a little so God knows what it would be like with a full on system on a long journey. Ouch!

Gen 2 V10 R8 also available at this price
At this price very little beats the R8 V10 plus (gen 2). You get proper super car performance and sound, without the hassle…

Edited by m4tti on Thursday 19th September 09:17
This. But for the badge (who cares?) and the interior (more of an issue - looks like any other Audi, so nice, but dull), this car is a bargain. Genuine supercar looks, (whereas the first gen now looks a little tame) amazing engine, reliable, great to drive with a properly modern gearbox.

It's where my cash would go.

At this price, I'd have taken a punt on this one, but I missed it. Total bargain.

I love Ferraris, but a 70k one vs one of these is a no-brainer to me.

Obviously not by the looks of things, for some reason the 360 gets heaps of praise were the 430 often gets criticised a far bit on here,

Don't understand it as they don't look a lot different if viewed driving by, apart from the obvious Enzo rear lights on the 430 .

Side by side the difference maybe more noticeable,

When i got let down by the seller of a huge spec 360 manual all the others i looked at looked so pain Jane compared so ended up

with a equally high spec 430 by accident and was so pleased i did,

Only thing i could fault was it lacks the high end scream that the 360 has even with a Capristo .
Side on they look very similar. IMO the rear of the 430 is a mess, the front of the 360 slightly too bland, but IMO age is helping the 360 now, its maturing quite well.

Interested to know what was in the "huge spec" - i guess things like bucket seats, challenge grilles. Daytona seats, after those most of the options you wouldn't really notice, except perhaps CF engine bay trim

The the 360 was in Nero Daytona 04 plate so one of the last, manual, black bucket sports seats,Challenge wheels and grille ,Nuvolari sports exhaust,

factory fitted shields,, yellow rev counter, and calipers ,probably missed something out ,40,000 miles so not high or low mileage but at least i could

drive the car without the usual worries of destroying the value like a ultra low mileage Ferrari , full Ferrari history, wanted grey or black not red so

ticked most boxes, as said after that most 360's i looked at seemed a little dull,

Missed out on a very nice silver manual car at a well know Ferrari specialist so when they called a couple of weeks later saying this black car was

coming in and after me agreeing to buy it at the asking price i tried to give them a deposit but as they hadn't as yet done the SOR agreement with the

owner they refused to take it instead promising me that it's going nowhere until i see it,

Got a call on the Thursday saying the owner is dropping the car to them on Saterday but the salesman is off to Italy for a weekend break so come

and view Monday afternoon after they have inspected it, Get a call Saterday morning from the workshop manager saying the cars arrived and i will

be delighted with it ,he said it doesn't look out of place even being surrounded by Ferrari's worth hundred's of thousands more,

Get a viocemail at 8.30 on Monday morning from the returning salesman saying i will be delighted and the car will be ready for me to view that

afternoon,

Got another voicemail at 8.45 saying sorry don't come up as the owner has changed his mind about selling and he is on his way to collect the car,

They were very apologetic but as the paperwork had not been done due to the saleman's absence when it was dropped off there was nothing they

could do about it especially as the owner was a solicitor, In 15 minutes i'd gone from excited to very dissponded banghead.

Sorry not finished yet, A few weeks had passed and i get a call from from the same specialist saying the owner

of the 360 has been in touch and will now sell the car as he has found a car he wants to buy, Ok i said after still not finding a car but he now wants

£8K more than the original price , meanwhile the owner had the front panel painted because of the usual stone chips not being helped being black

.but not £8K's worth i should think.

This was in the summer of 2016 when things were more buoyant than now, rightly or wrongly i offed another £5K which was turned down .

This was on a Friday evening and having given up on ever buying a decent 360 i went to a auction on the Saterday and bought my second choice a

black manual Gallardo only to get a call on the Monday morning saying that my offer on the 360 is now accepted , smash

The Gallardo turned out to be a total disaster and spent 7 months in a specialist before it would be drivable , meanwhile tired of waiting i bought the

F430 in Nero Daytona again more out of frustration ,this time from a main dealer ,Maranello's who at the time had three , 18,000 miles , two year

warranty despite accepting my offer of £5K less than the screen price, Even then being a 2008 it was only just entitled to the factory warranty,

Same spec as the 360 apart from having daytona seats with yellow stitching ,

Eventually getting the Gallardo back i ran them back to back with the 430 being twice the car the Gallardo ever could be .

Bet you wish you never asked now

Thanks for posting and sorry to hear about your nightmare, but it's comforting to see I'm not the only one who gets shafted with cars sometimes! Hope all sorted now. (And I'm embarking on a McL journey this month, wish me luck)

Thanks for the answer.

It does sound like the car was high spec although the exhaust was of course aftermarket, and the manual the cheap option wink

I think mine is highish spec:

Daytona Nero
Electric seats
Daytona Seats in crema with nero inserts
Nero piping
Contrast grey stitching
Yellow rev counter
Leather headliner
Shields
F1
Challenge rear grille
Zenon lights

Aftermarket
CS gearbox TCU

(deliberately on the original exhaust)

Nice spec, i found the Daytona seats on the 430 comfortable

but always looked to to big for the size of cars interior ,like two armchairs,

Looked for another 360 or 430 with buckets but hard to find plus

as this was 2017 the super car market was buzzing and the cars didn't

hang around long.,as i said Maranello's had three 430's and they all got sold

on the same week.

It's not the amount, I just can't get my reading eyes around why you create new paragraphs mid-sentence and all the rest of it. Makes it incredibly hard to read.

Not to worry ,for the sake of every one i doubt if i will be writing a post as long again,

more like "War and Peace" than a post .

Excuses aside i do suffer from dyslexia ,not sure if this as anything do with my bad grammar

and where i start and finish my paragraphs or not, probably not but coming from a manual working

career i find it more difficult than most putting pen to paper.

As said will try harder but at 72 it's hard to teach old dogs and all that nerd

At 35k miles, you shoundn't be scared of putting miles on it.

Imported from Ireland - who cares? is that something that really impacts value?

At £63k, own for 5 years, add 10-15k miles, maybe spend £20k in servicing and depreciation? Seems good value to me.

That 430 looks pretty good. The miles are absolutely fine, and as you say you could add to that without worrying too much about value. An import from Ireland wouldn't worry me in the slightest, but not sure how it would be come sale time, might also be worth checking if it makes insurance more difficult. Personal preference of course, but for me that's the best colour combo as well.

Awesome cars, and I'd love to tick off "V12 Ferrari" from the list, but a cheap sub-£75k FF would surely require an entire bottle of brave pills! Hats off to you if you take the plunge though.

If it’s been cared for by a reputable mob, the mileage wouldn’t bother me but it is a suspiciously odd price even with that interior.
