where there any mechanical (not cosmetic) changes made when the 550-2 was released as a production car.....? includes MY improvements if there were any.

Hi ya,

Technically I don't think there were any mechanical differences at all, except that most sold were e-gear (same as the Balboni really). Only other differences were the interior trims/strips etc.

.......I think!

Had a chat with a guy (in an overseas service dept) the other day, he told me his absolute favourite modern Lambo was the 550, i'm sure he meant within reason ie not comparing to Murc lp670 and other extreme versions, he thought it felt "just right".

i believe that it was just the body stripe, seat stripes, contrasting console, sl wheels and numbered plaque

every balboni i've seen also has the clear engine cover, sat nav and branding pack - not sure if these were part of the balboni package ?

e-gear was optional, just like the 550 etc

You thinking of getting one? Awesome cars smile You need to make sure there's plenty of tread on the tyres when it's wet however lol.

funny that, some bloke called valentino said the same thing....
vaguely remember someone on a thread here say the production 550-2 was more sorted than the balboni....
just curiosity.... though there is a rather nice looking balboni in the classifieds....

In 20 years a manual rwd balboni will be THE gallardo to have, and no wonder.

I remember hearing that they made the LP550 less snappy than the Balboni - not sure if that's true. It's still a very tail happy car.....one of the last really lairy supercars?

I'm going to wait for a 550-2 without the god awful stripe all over it. Really would love to have a Balboni, but really don't like the stripe, and I assume you can't take it off.

Plus, I suspect that a "regular" 550 will be cheaper in 6 months time.

The hunt for a manual with all the toys in a dark colour could be tricky though!!

Hope you're well mate. I've been up half the night listening to the crazy storm over here near Newmarket. Mad winds!

a regular 550 specced for resale ( as most are ) will be close to balboni money new

i believe you'll also find manuals very rare and can take a while to sell

IME the rwd Gallardo was a great car. Unfortunately nobody bought them, probably because Lamborghini owners are wusses more interested in colours, private plates, after market barry boy wings, and wheel options, and that seems to have put the factory off making more rwd models

I quite like the stripe, although it is pretty base colour dependent. You are right in that it cannot be removed, apparently it is painted in, not applied.

My dealer contact said that the 550-2 was not a good seller in the UK, apparently most purchasers opted to pay a little more for the 560-4, however this is not true of other markets e.g. the USA. He also suggested that most drivers would not push the car to the limits where the benefits of RWD over 4WD would manifest themselves.

Was ????? Still is, still in production, albeit minus stripe and plaque. So which colour/wheel/spoiler option you going to go for? ( it would improve your street cred and garage hehe)

Never understood this Place either... People would always say 4wd better as more surefooted and then comparing to another marque that marque was more fun as a bit twitchy!

Most people want the safety net of the 4wd system. The Balboni steers a lot better though. Feels more precise.
