Drove a 2006 Gallardo Spyder today, after having owned a 997 Turbo Cab I was truly not impressed.

Firstly this car was an E Gear. From the moment it started it had a long whine from the start motor. Whilst taking a corner the rear sounded terrible, like the diff was making a mad sound. I was told by the seller these are all common traits for the Gallardo!!!

The car also did not feel planted for some reason. I dont seem to believe this, the Porsche do seem a better build of a car.

Really much prefer the 997 Turbo.

Drive a decent one before you dismiss it. I rate the G over my previous 997 Turbo by a country mile.

when you open the door, there is a whine as the gear actuators fill their hydraulics... when driving you should only hear the glorious sound of the engine..... only time you hear the diff knocking is the front diff on full lock at snails pace..... you drove a dog of a car.....

Could be this - simply solved with additive:

Test another one, to compare.

Some "crab" at the front on full-lock at very low speed. But that is its only minor quirk.

All you should hear is the V10 howling out the back driving

I'll take up up on that, I keep thinking about one , then that gear box puts me right off

with cars like the AMG GT for £100k is hard to part with £100k for a lambo with egear and 10 year old design.
the F430 has also put me off

I cannot help but keep coming back to owning the R8 V10 plus, badge aside the R8 does seem a far better car for less money now days.
£85k for a one year old £135k car with 550 BHp and DSG. what's not to like ...

Im a big R8 fan but don't let the egear put you off. Mine is pinpoint sharp and there is no way a manual is even remotely as quick as mine, the gallardo gearbox is very accurate.

pistonuser and mrdemon - same person? If so, I thought you were anti-Lambo?

dont think mrdemon is antilambo, he's got a diablo sv in bright yellow... though the decals are small rather than whole side of car..

I like the punchiness of the E-Gear. Gives a good "shove".

OP -- Keep in mind, you can also get a TCU (gearbox) remap for about ~£1k, if you want faster or smoother changes.

We're in very similar places at the moment. FWIW I started looking at R8 V10s, GTs in fact because the ltd edition numbers is usually good for residuals and lets face it they look great and appear to be the ultimate R8. But after lots of drives of both them and the Plus there's no doubt the Plus is the best R8 of them all and thats saying something. But its almost unobtainable as a manual so the , very fine, S Tronic is the only real choice

But think about what you've just stated, the car has lost 40k in a little over a year. Thats great now but indicates a less than stellar residual performance so far and likely in the next couple of years IMHO. The car is wonderful but its also got a prosaic badge shared with a super-mini and its just ever so slightly , well, sensible.

But then I thought about what it was that so appealed to me most about the R8 V10 was its magical N/A V10. wonderful chassis, reliable high quality engineering etc etc but I'd never choose the V8 tbh. Not when the V10 exists.

So if I really wanted the Lambo V10 , that basic chassis and I was slightly underwhelmed by its noise and sense of occasion (And potential depreciation) then the Gallardo was the obvious choice. But as well as the badge, the noise the rather more spectacular shape, late Gallardos are available as 550hp 2WD cars with an R8 like open gate manual.

And they're cheaper in that, IMHO, superior spec.

Me too. I'm not sure why everyone thinks a supercar should change gear like a golf?

I genuinely wanted a manual g however at 6ft5 it was just impossible for me to drive one so I ended up with egear(I have the foot rest removed in my car to give me sufficient leg room). I've ended up really liking the egear, it still requires you to use a little thought when changing gear and has a character of its own.

The dsg in the huracan is a disappointment to me, it's not very involving and just makes the car less of a supercar and more of an everyday proposition. I'm sure it's great for the Knightsbridge show offs crawling in traffic or for extracting faster times on track or at the lights but none of those activities hold much interest for me.

Firstly, the market for these cars is changing... No longer for petrol heads but for young Chinese, wags, footballers and celebrities...

Secondly, when going hell for leather on the b660 a 0.5s gear change is just not fast enough mid corner... Wink
