I’ve had my Perf Spyder for over a year, and was interested to understand the number of cars that had been sold in the UK and the proportion of different colours and specs. I’m not interested for the purposes of understanding the rarity or value/depreciation of my car as In my eyes its perfect and I’m never selling it, I just saw it as an intellectual challenge as Lamborghini are tight lipped about these things.

My starting point in the analysis was the usual place, howmanyleft.co.uk, and I found that there have been 343 new registrations of all Performante, and a peak of 330 either registered or SORN. Don’t know where the discrepancy lies but presume could be down to exports, timing of registrations, right-offs, admin errors etc. This created my first problem - how many were Coupe vs Spyder? I found a reference online that talked about 40% of huracan being convertible in the US market, so I have assumed this as my rough assessment of the total for the UK, so 343 * 40% with rounding is about 140.

My next challenge was to assess the different specs, which visually can be broken down into:

- Body Colour
- Window Surround black/body colour
- Wheel style & colour
- Calliper colour
- Seats (comfort / bucket)
- Stitching colour
- Style pack (shiny or matt body plastics)
- Sensonium stereo inclusion
- Laser Etching on seats / bicolour seats

Assessing the year of registration posed my second major challenge as most Huracan (and Lambo in general) tend either to have no front plate, and even if they do many of them have private plates. But if you do find the plate you can check on carzana.com and it will confirm the year of car it is attached to.

I started with a google sheet to track the cars I either knew about from people I had met, or seen around in Essex, and managed to get my first 10 on the board. I then googled cars for sale, looked on PistonHeads and autotrader, and found some more, maybe another 15 for sale at the time in the UK. It was then that I realised I would have to start taking pictures - I if I were to uniquely identify all these cars I would need to go back and check that I had captured the details correctly. I also had to make a note of when they were for sale, as those cars would soon be in private hands and I might want an audit trail to see where they ended up (and not double count).

So by this time I realise that if I am ever going to be able to complete this task properly, I will need to be scientific and methodical - and create a database to store my findings. So I created a website using wordpress, which iives on my home server, and I can access (privately) using my iPad. I imported my google sheet into the database and sorted the data so I can see all cars with a specific colour, or a specific wheel type.

At this stage I went into full Columbo / stalker mode - using a combination of google, Facebook and instagram to identify as many cars as I could. Performante Spyder owners are not generally shy and retiring types, and there no shortage of supercar spotters out there to snap their cars either. I actually scared myself a couple of times with how easy it was using publicly available data to not only uniquely identify the car but also the owner, their profession, how much they paid for their car, where they lived, where they went on holiday etc. But my ultimate objective was to find the plate the car is currently on and the original reg, so I could be sure the car was not one I had already recorded. I’m never going to publish my website and what I am storing relates to the car, not the owner (other than instagram ID if given).

As I got above the 70 car mark I started to see some doubles - cars I had previously seen for sale now in use, or cars that had change plates, or been wrapped (why do people do this! Do they not know I am trying to stalk them?). And also the also references started to get a bit more thin on the ground - the most obscure one I found was a car that was in a YouTube video advertising an executive house for sale. But to date I have found 95 cars, which represents around 2/3rds of the 140 I previously estimated to be in the UK. So statistically this is reasonably representative, and allows me to start asking questions like:

- What is the most popular colour? Well it’s Verde Mantis with around 20% of all cars in this colour, Orancio Borealis and Blanco Monocerus come in joint second with around 10% each. Rarest are Verde Ermes and Blu Vathys which appear unique (so far)

- What is the most popular wheel style? Of the 2 styles sold on the Performante, the Narvi wheel was around twice as popular as the Loge, with 2/3rds of all cars having Narvis

- How many have been written off? I have found only 2 badly damaged and most likely written off - the White Rental in the midlands and the recent Grigio Lynx near Leeds, Which makes the other Grigio Lynx slightly rarer being the only one in the UK left un-crashed!

So what is the point of this entire exercise? I’m not sure, other than to satisfy my curiosity, and as an intellectual challenge to see just how much intelligence I could amass through 100% publicly available data. I’m not sure what I am going to do with it now, but if anyone else out there wants to confess their ownership I can run them through the database, and tell them just how unique (or otherwise) their car is!

Once the site was set up, which took me a couple of hours, adding new entries only takes a couple of minutes. Whenever I get 5 minutes spare I do a quick google and save pictures or save instagram posts, and then jump on the website to see if its a unique car based on the plate or visible spec. The kids have started sending me cars they find too - we are all stalkers now!

Possibly - although as I’ve done all the work on the website I could publish it, maybe with personal details removed unless people gave me specific permission. Just not sure where I stand using images I er...borrowed...off the internet including dealer websites and whether I would upset anyone. Any thoughts?

Not sure if you are UK or USA based but Lamborghini Pangbourne told me there were only 550 Performante spyders worldwide and I've seen that number quoted on several ads on PH and autorader.
I'm told the Performante coupe/spyder split was roughly 75/25 and (definitely not as high as 40% in UK ) which is also typically replicated by ads of cars for sale until recently when more convertibles appeared on market as you would expect in the summer.

If there are circa 2,000 - 2,500 Perf cars worldwide and the UK normally takes a approx 10-15% split of production it then suggests there are a total of 375 UK cars of which 90 might be spyders, but it could also be as low as 300 in total and 75 spyders. UK and USA markets are very different so difficult to make comaprisons IMHO

On that basis I would suggest your numbers appear a little high but its all speculation

Spyder is the rarer car and a lot better for sound with the roof down but the overall proportions and roofline of the coupe is to die for and obviously a better track car. I would suggest either way you have a cracking spine tingling sensational car

Only way to really tell is a register but good luck with that

Given OP seems to have identified 95 already and I think it is fair to assume he does not have 100 percent of the UK cars, I guess the number is higher than 90/75

HowManyLeft peaked at 330 of all Perfs during 2019 before the numbers started to drop slightly so I’d suggest the starting point is well north of 300 cars, and I’m still finding “new” Spyders and I’m at almost 100 total - admittedly some may be duplicates but based on “unique spec” I’m at well over 80....as you say a register may be the only way to be sure!

Maybe, I don't profess to be an expert purely repeating what I have been told by my local lamborghini dealer at Pangbourne and Craig knows his stuff.
OP has obviously done a great job tracking cars down but is it by chassis number and able to be verified ?
A lot of cars have appeared on the market several times and a number of Perf owners like myself have had multiple cars.

I have spotted one of my old coupes on the market 4 times already in a 2 year period which whilst its quite feasible to have changed hands 4 times ie every 6 months its seems on the high side.
I'm sure this would make it incredibly difficult not to duplicate cars unless you have the exact specs.

Fair play though that is some stalking going on there.
Anyway I'm now off to get some more CCTV cameras and up the voltage on the electric fences

Good plan, if I have to start collecting VIN numbers I may need to get my Milk Tray Man outfit on and start breaking into garages smile

VIN numbers are the only way to be sure that you are tracking the correct cars though. Cazana used to have very useful functionality which was that as part of the "free" search it would tell you the previous registration numbers. I don't think that any of the free car check websites have that now.

You made it in at #39. No chance of mistaking this for another Bianco Performante smile

There are 2 that I know of in Blue Vathys, both have comfort seats, one has the gloss pack, the other does not if I remember correctly, both with gold navi's. Would like to own one at some point. Nearly bought one last year but went down the v12 route.
The website would be most welcome with sensible info included I would of thought.
Perfect car for when the sun is out.

It’s working already! Difficult to tell in some pictures between the gloss and pearl finish. Cheers

It does look good in this colour, the pic you posted is the one I have in my register (fairly regular appearances on instagram and YouTube) so would be interested in finding the other one. Do you remember where you saw it last?

Maybe I could publish the register online and put a login on it, so owners could claim their cars and correct any errors, as well as see other members cars?

It appeared at an obscure independant dealer photographed at the top of a car park, priced unrealisticaly at 229k, reduced to 225k around christmas time, is all I can recall. Then disapeared. Can't be of more help am afraid.

Interesting. The figure for HP Spyders that I heard was 585, so we're in the same ballpark at least.

Some great research by the OP, and I'd certainly be curious to see the database, but I suspect there might be some potential privacy issues incoming if it got published. Nice job though!

Information need be no more than Year / Colour / Seat Type / Wheel Type and possibly area last seen,
plate and Vin no's should be up to owners discression if put out there on the web.
Just my thoughts.
