Hi everyone,

I am considering buying a performante and wondered what the opinion is on Matte paint? Are they easy to live with or a bit of a nightmare?

Also I have recently sat in both seats and massively prefer the comfort seats - Would this be more difficult to sell in the future?

Cheers guys smile

Not directly replying to your question but I recall conversations on here that Performante's do not favour drivers of a tall persuasion. Someone may correct me but think I read if you're over 6' you could be in trouble?

Hopefully not an issue for you but thought I'd mention it just in case.

Re. the paint, can't really comment other than personally I think the matt looks a bit naff, like it's been wrapped. But that's just my opinion! The matt paint has a matt lacquer (as do the wheels), so you clean it like anything else I believe.

Re. the seats, in my experience there are far more buyers after comfort seats than the sports buckets (rumour that this can result in a 10k difference in value at a main dealer). The sports buckets look great with the carbon, but are fixed angle and tend to feel as if you're being tipped forward a bit. Some owners have put spacers under the front rail mounts to tip them back - but I'd take comforts with electronic adjustability every day, especially if you plan on being in the car for more than 10mins at a time smile

Coupe or spyder ?

Slightly more head room in coupe.
Personally i struggled with comfort seats being too high and UNcomfortable and I'm 5'10".
You tend to sit on them rather then in them.

TBH both seats are compromised so its very much a case of personal preference and body shape.

Absolutely love my carbon fibre racing bucket seats and wouldnt consider anything else but others will say the same about comforts.

My advise is try both out before buying

As regards matt paint I think its a bit of a fad that won't age well.
How lambo could charge £15k extra for it is beyond me.
If its your bag then fair enough but personally i think I would buy a gloss car and matt wrap it to achieve the same effect as at least that way its easily undone. Rather than add to car I think it detracts from it and hence not many chose that route from new. Those that did just lost an extra £10k for the paint plus make it more niche to resale

My OCD would have me polishing the matt paint off until the bare metal shone through

I was offered that by the owner a few months back. Lovely example and a relatively rare colour. The owner has a bunch of cars in his collection, so was looking to thin it out. Not much not to like and comforts in the coupe are great (IMHO). The Spyder is more compromised in terms of space, so buckets are the only option for some due to legroom (I found comforts in the Spyder fine and I'm a fraction under 6').

My Previous car in matt orange. Loved the colour although I never felt it looked as clean as a gloss car.
With regard seats I loved the buckets but Mrs hated them. Have comfort seats ina convertible perfect now so the best off alll worlds.

Matt paint is just as easy to keep clean as normal paint however it does come with a few caveats and will limit resale market as like yourself are not quite sure. For me personally, I would buy a matt car however would probably buy the gloss version and clad it in a matt PPF which you would do anyway or if you really wanted, wrap it. I say probably, I did buy a gloss version but I was dead set on a specific colour which just so happened to be gloss.

Seats is a debate that will rattle on forever. If you fit comfortably, the lighter carbon buckets are a superior seat the the comfort option - lighter and hold you better. This is what you want in what is a track spec car and for me personally I don't understand why you would go out and get a track focused car and then slop some heavy arm chairs in. The same applies with lopping the roof off, its a track car with track spec. That being said some want to compromise that track focus and will actively seek a more toned down version of the car to pootle about in and in a way kind of splits the market a bit. Ignore anything about resale value and price difference, you either want a full fat version or you don't.

Age, fitness and ultimate uses that you personally want for you is what is important but the only advise I really importantly offer is try both seats - the difference is without a doubt night and day and comfort seats do all but eliminate that "race/track car" experience imo.

Regarding the car - Good spec, well loaded and despite it being matt is one of the more desirable colour options. If you drive it and everything checks out, im fairly confident you will buy it so it is important you drive a few different specs to be able to choose the seats and roof option which imo are more important than the colour and any other options.

As others have said, you’ll know as soon as you sit in the seats. The race seats mean I can’t fit in the car at all but comforts make me fit. You need to decide on your use for the car , the comfort seats are called comfort for a reason. If you are going to be doing any mid to long range drives I think you’ll find them invaluable. The race seats lock you in one position which becomes uncomfortable quickly. When looking for my car I’ve found a well specced car with comfort seats sells fast!

One thing I'll add, apparently it's possible to change comforts for buckets if the car was originally fitted with comforts, but not vice-versa.

I think its very personal and down to individual body type even. I find the comfort seats far too high for visibility and I end up looking at the top frame of the windscreen and I'm only 5'10". Also you sit on them instead of in them and as a result of that despite their name are anything but comfortable for me.

In contrast I've spent 3 hrs + in the racing bucket seats and not had an issue. Granted they are firm but its is imperative you sit in them properly ie fully back and upright. If you instinctively try to slouch down in them your lower back will be shot in 10 mins due to the lack of lumbar support. I did this when I first had the car so I think its a mistake a lot of people will make in a short test drive

On looks alone I would buy the race seats as they are beautiful and suit the track focussed car.
It goes against the grain with me to buy a track car and have grandads comfy chair in them. Just look at the Porsche GT3's that are cheap and dont sell and they will always be the comfort seat ones.

Only way you will know what suits you best is to try both out properly. I complained bitterly to Lamborghini Italy about both seats being compromised and interestingly enough so must have others because there is now a new seat option on the EVO which is somewhere between the 2 old options - an adjustable more comfy racing seat which might be an option to change to

I believe this is likely to do with needing the loom for the electric and heated side of things, it can be done but is a complete ball ache to do yourself (read as give to a pro) as where if you go from comfort to buckets you just unplug them.

For reference in case anyone didn't know it is possible to get little lumbar cushions made, just don't let anyone see them when you pull up biggrin

I wouldn't touch matte with a bargepole. That ship has sailed. Looks st now.

I wanted buckets originally but went with comforts in the end. Glad I did.

My dealer pretty much won't stock ones with buckets.

My SVJ is the market intro matte white, looks amazing but I wouldn't do matte paint again. You can PPF your car and protect the paint but you lose some of the depth of the matte paint. And you have to find the right PPF, Xpel isn't the best for matte so I went with Suntek which was better. Also if you get in an accident and you need to have a body panel painted good luck matching it to the rest of the car. Repainting a matte car is a pain.

In regards to sport seats, I had them in my Performante. I'm 6'4 and the sport seats gave me a bit more leg room. I have comfort seats and I feel like I don't fit between the bolsters so I'm sitting on top of the bolsters if that makes sense. I fit the sport seats better. For resale comfort seats are better and for long journeys but sport seats if you care about weight savings and want carbon buckets.

The car looks super. I was wondering on matte paint - is it true you should not apply wax on it as it makes it patchy and less matte (that her than actually shiny)?

If you use normal wax/polish, yes it'll cause shiny patches because normal waxes are too abrasive. There's special waxes and QD's for matte finishes.

You’re 6 foot 4 and fit in the SVJ? You’re very lucky my aventador SV dreams were dashed. No chance I fitted in any version of it at 6 foot 6.
