Opinions requested.

I am either looking at a FF around 100k or less, as a second car but want 4 seats.

Or I stretch myself to a GTC4 at around 150k. But then it becomes the primary family car replacing the SUV as well as my Aston.

A little concerned on running costs of an FF, even as a 2nd car. But can a GTC4 be a serious primary family car?

Thanks Rich.

Three questions for you.

1) Apart from the service inclusive pack, what are you concerned about which leads you to believe that the running costs of an FF are higher than the Lusso?

2) How old and how tall are you family members?

3) Do you have any hobbies which require serious luggage/load lugging capability? (Towing, DIY, wind surfing etc).

There are people who run an FF or Lusso as their only car so it is perfectly possible if it fits your lifestyle choices.

The cars a fine to seat 4 adults as the rear seats are reasonably spacious. But the boot is not huge, so to take a larger amount of luggage you have to make a choice between number of people and amount of luggage in the car.
The cars a reliable, so are perfectly fine to be used as a primary car (one could argue that thats the better use anyway as the more often the cars are driven the more reliable they are as best as i can tell).
There are not many situations where you will need another car, but as pointed out above stuff like towing a trailer or transporting multiple bikes (while also having more than 2 people in the car) is not possible. I bought a ski rack for situations where i want to go skiing with more than 1 other person (only used it once as you are then limited to c 70 mph, so screw the others).
Lastly i would not get one as a second car, would then look at a 599 or 550/575 for the V12 experience.

Thanks for this.

Only key activity is transporting golf clubs for tournaments. Family members, Son is 6ft,wife is 5'7".

Do have an old berlingo for dog transport and runs to the Tip.

If you have the Berlingo for the dog and tip runs etc then you're golden. There's no reason not to run an FF or Lusso as your 'only' car.

I use mine as much as possible. It is a big car, and can be very tricky in car parks. That's the only downside. Manoeuvring the thing in a multi-storey is tricky and alloy compromising. I have other cars to use for this role! I almost couldn't get it out a few multi-storey/underground car parks over the last 18 months....

That's the only thing to bear in mind. My 20212 FF has been faultless over around 15K normal family household miles, and a very pleasurable place to be.

It’s smaller than a Cayenne and I don’t hear many people complaining about manoeuvring one of those round car parks. I suspect that the length of the bonnet is the intimidating factor as the driver sits much further behind the front wheels than in a ‘regular’ car.

It’s the long bonnet and low height that’s the issue. Even if a cayenne had same length and same bonnet it would still be a lot easier to park due to its height.

Well the Cayenne sits between the FF and GTC4 on length, but is wider than both.

I had to go googling that, as I admit I thought the Cayenne was shorter than them. And I drive one! I find the Cayenne shrinks around us quite a bit and we are on local Devon roads, not the widest things around. In fact I think they cover ground and have an ability that is frankly annoyingly silly. What do the FF and GTC4 chaps think with regards the big 4 seat Donkeys hiding their size?

In my view the FF hides its weight really well, but it always feels like a physically big car - the combination of width and turning circle can make navigating tight spaces challenging. And the constant beeping of the parking assist means it is of no real help when parking in tight spaces (I tend to just switch it off)

the v12 lusso @ £150k is great value imo, they were spec'd up to £280k in many cases and represents a massive saving as people were forced to get them to get pistas

Agree, although the 4WS on the Lusso does a subtle but good job of making the car feel physically smaller than it is.

I bought a 2yr old Lusso in July, with 5k miles on it. I’ve done another 10500 miles in it since, including 2600 in last 10 days, so pretty well qualified to comment..

Have used it as a daily through the winter, but majority of the miles have been longer trips that might have involved flights pre-Covid. I put Michelin Alpins on it, and decided not to wash it between clocks going back in October and going forward in March. (Not sure why...), amd have treated it like any other car for same job.

Snow, sun, backroads, motorways, comfortable cruising, high speed blasts, subtle transport, posing outside fancy hotels - it does the lot.Did 700 miles in it yesterday...solo driving, 2 people loaded up with bags, and was thinking a lot about it...

Genuinely, I think it’s the best ‘one car’ ever made. Just can’t think of a competitor, and I wish I’d discovered them sooner, and also wish they hadn’t stopped making them.
Having previously done 5000 miles in similar way in a Urus, I really hope the purosangue is more Lusso than SUV, and the Ferrari quality is massively better than the Lambo, no contest now they are similar money. Before that I used an RS6 for same job - as Chris Harris says in review, the Lusso is 3x the price of an RS6, because it feels 3x the price of an RS6. Now it’s only about 1.5x but still has the 3x feel!

I have driven an 812, and was/am very tempted to get a GTS, as it does drive slightly better, with sharper and lighter feeling front end, but that is not a ‘daily’ for a number of reasons.

Parking is easy enough normally, but do agree on multi storeys - I’ve parked in same ones in a Merc V class bus, and Lusso is harder (maybe partly psychologically!). The problem is the long bonnet, very similar to an SLS in that respect, combined with height, turning circle. Sometimes it feels like you’re still on the straight bit, while the front wheels are going round the next bend! I definitely avoid them if possible.

Other very small niggles, such as the high beam on/off mechanism when pressing on at night, and some of the tech integration, but I can’t see what I’ll swap it for at the moment.
It’s still a Ferrari, so you do sometimes have to think twice about where you want to be with it, but if that’s not a problem, it’s 100% buy from me.

(And mine still has 5 more services and 18 months of warranty left, which does offset some of the FF differential, and peace of mind)

ETA: loads of room for 4, get one with a pano roof (most do), which benefits rear seats more than front. Also a decent sized boot, and masses of room in back if 2 passengers and seats folded down.

Agree - best car ever made and I am tempted to buy a Lusso to add to the FF (no point selling that as worth buttons) at some point as the FF is getting on in age. It really is a shame that they stopped making them - I was hoping I’d make enough money to order a new one at some point.
Drove an 812 on track a few years ago and it is very fast and more sports car than the 4 seaters but you loose so much use ability that imo the 4 seater is a better buy (and tbh the extra power is really not required, it is not like the others feel underpowered ...)

+1 for the FF as a daily runner, nearly 3 years in. Love mine to bits, can’t see myself ever selling it, especially now with the upgraded audio/ICE system. Garage companion also settling in well. Gratuitous pic (forgive the van in the background):

Out of interest what did you do re upgraded system and what was the rough cost - my screen is only showing squiggly rainbow lines and i need a replacement. I am tempted to get a panel made and go to single DIN, but then i will likely loose steering wheel controls

I gutted it and started again. New head unit, new amps, new speakers, new sub, new wiring but all done to keep a stock look and feel. More detail if of interest...

I remember seeing the promo videos of the FF when it first came out and thought it was the ultimate car.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkYzxSW5hn4&ab...

I would really like to own one at some point (current car 3.9 litre Porsche C4S) but worry that its too big to have much fun with in Surrey's country lanes.

The price differential between the porsche and the ferrari seem to be slowly decreasing so maybe at some point it wont be a huge jump.
