I was flicking through the car ads, as I often do, and noticed a lot of SVs, so decided to do a count. I got 35 cars available for sale across Pistonheads and Autotrader. A quick check on howmanyleft.co.uk shows there are 69 taxed and/or SORN’d (there were 72 originally registered, so I am guessing 3 have been exported). That means about 50% of the cars originally sold are available right now. I know the SVJ is coming but that is a huge percentage. Most of them with very low miles, only 6 with over 5,000 miles and only 1 with over 10,000 miles.

Surely a buyers market with that much supply (and probably more to come as dealerships start getting trade-ins against SVJs) yet not one of them is priced below the £315,000 original list price (some are probably below list once you add in the price of options but still).

Thoughts?

It is certainly starting to feel like it’s going to be a very interesting supercar market over the next few years. Nothing lasts forever and there Is a high percentage of quite young, inexperienced owners in quite deep,in finance across all the brands.

Lots of car dealers too, that have probably forgotten how bad the ride can get and have too much stock.

When a 24 year old YouTuber Peter from Vehicle Virgins decides to splash out $2million in a few weeks on the 600LT, SVJ, 458 Aperta etc declaring “what can go wrong - they are limited cars - guaranteed safe investment” you have to start asking whether the bell has been truly rung.

Most will have been in the £350-360 range sensible spec new unless light on carbon bits and or forged wheels, higher if went silly with ad personam and special paint.

More odd that none are used, mine has done 10,000 miles, its not the one for sale though, people are missing out. the many sales are due to SVJ, winter and people getting scared of a market drop imo

If anyones interested I've also got an SVJ coming in about 9 months so will also probably sell at some point and expect my car will be the cheapest out there as I've actually used it!

Feel free to make me an offer! 2016 car, list was just under £360 and then ppf, tracker etc on top which was getting on for another £8k.

I have been watching the early aventador market closely over the last 3-5 months and not long ago the cheapest car was 215k from motorhub! These have lost a very large chunk now with 16 advertised below this level just on pistonheads all ranging from 185- 215k.
There is so much choice and supply if you have 150- 250k to spend on any supercar I think you will be able to get a nice chunk off even the cars that appear cheaper than the others.
The SV market can only follow that with so many for sale, and I think where the hurracan performante is so good I myself am considering one next year instead of the original plan to get into an early aventador or aventador roadster.
Would love to know if any other owners on here were originally after an aventador, even an SV but chose the hurracan performante instead.

I would also like to know from any other owners (SV or aventador) if it is their second car or more than likely their 3rd or 4th plus car due to the size and usability of the thing. Being a peasant I can only afford 1 special car that I would like to be usable for mostly country road blasts, meets and maybe the odd euro tour, could a later car 2014/2015 be suitable for this?

I just feel that the performante is so good it has stole a bit of luster off its bigger brother.
Even the SV's luster! ???

I think a few people on here have owned both - am sure they will chip in. A lot of them complain about the gearbox (and to a lesser extent size) and say the Performante is much better to drive, all from memory and no first hand experience

Would probably want to test drive both on a country road and ideally back to back
I personally would probably find the V12 and the theatre/event of the big brother hard to ignore

Never you mind

Cheapest HP is 219K which puts in the mix for an older Aventador. Out of the 2 it would be a hard choice I think. Like you I would plumb for the Aventador for the exact same reason you state.

But then again .... I do love a lambo with a massive wing smile

I have owned most models of Lamborghini from Gallardo onwards or had a good go in them over an extended period. Its all subjective though, aventadors are definitely not everyones cup or tea, huracan will tick more boxes for most as aventadors are just a bit silly. If its of interest my thoughts below and its purely my thoughts and experience not an absolute as I'm sure people will not necessarily agree.

Gallardo, soft gearbox was fine but always felt like it was on its way out even with a new one, engine ran rough but sounded amazing, quite a few electrical gremlins

Lp560, solid car, ran perfect, gearbox strong but dated by todays standard, one of my favourite cars

Lp570, as above but with more feel and lightness into corners, looked cooler but no faster in a straight line

Aventador, looked amazing but constant niggles, engine ran rough, gearbox unusable when cold, bouncy suspension, no connected road feel. Later ones were better

Huracan, brilliant car but lacked soul and not aggressive enough for me to keep me interested, felt like a normal car, very useable but unable to indicate easily off a roundabout with the buttons on steering wheel i weirdly remember but not a big issue

Aventador SV, cool car only one apart from the Lp560 i kept several years, proper road feel and works properly, very aggressive ride and drive, noisy and a bit uncomfortable, too big for easy use but makes you feel you in something special

Performante, half way between a huracan and SV more aggressive and playful, handles amazing but very predictable solid which for me is a negative as it doesn't feel like a living being but I'm sure for others is a big positive. Great compromise car, would take comfort seats though if you plan to use it a lot.

Avantador S, works well, less aggressive than sv, can use corsa happily as the default on the road which you cant in sv really as its just too aggressive to be comfortable unless you have a lot of open road, more road feel and handles better, much more comfy and sounds great. Not as interesting looking or feels as special but undoubtedly a better car than SV.

The older Aventadors have done very well price wise, when they first came out i ticked every option and the car came to £250 which is amazing they have lost so little.
My description of it is that it a great car but not necessarily a good car, personally i did not like it that much to drive, it is a great gt car that handles but you don't really feel what its doing and lots of niggles on the one i had albeit it was a very early one. I prefer a bit of feel.

Personally no Huracan is going to trump an Aventador for me but it really is a personal thing, they are easier to drive and handle better because of the feel and the pure size, i can easily hold a drift in one but would be terrified to do the same in a Aventador even SV its just not as balanced or playful or even as enjoyable as a pure drive if that is really important to you.

Aventador you "could" use everyday if you wanted but you probably wouldn't want to, its too big and too hard work, which is partly why it feels special as it just feels like you are sitting on a massive engine with a bit of bodywork bolted to it and everything else was an afterthought! It needs to be a 2nd car at the very least unless you are very dedicated and have parking at each end of any journey. Huracan you could use anywhere anytime. Also aventador is not a country road car, its an open road car, it can do it but it is hard work unless there is literally nothing else on the road, it is too big and too low to deal with bad surface. Huracan especially performante is the perfect country road car, and would absolutely be my choice if that is the main use. For euro tours i would take an aventador S personally, thats what is is made for imo.

Also for usability everyday Huracans run fine in the cold, aventadors don't to the same degree, everything need properly warming up for at least 20 mins before it feel fluid, its like an old man in the morning a bit stiff and takes a while to loosen up (suspension/gearbox/engine/tyres).

Radio pretty much doesn't work in any of them even with DAB and SAT nav you are also just better with tomtom etc, huracan is better but still rubbish.

Same with lots of cars right now - highly priced, overstocked and not selling. prices not moving because either they are on SOR or the interest cost to hold is so low. Can't last forever.

Only other thing of note is V12 is roughly 3x the cost for everything related to it over V10

Thank you for taking the time to write your experience of those cars, very informative and as I suspected put me off a standard early aventador. For thrills around the 200k mark seems the alternatives are better, if I had more funds the sv or newer aventador s would be a consideration.
Dare I ask why there is never a mention of lp670's on here?
One recently at auction only made approx 202k which I was surprised at seeing how VVS seem to price them......but never sell them!

absolutely amazing value for money. still don't understand why murci sv's haven't risen alongside other limited edition cars but all that means is they are still accessible to buy! good stuff.

I must admit of all the cars out there I’m really starting to get an urge for an Sv. I’ve had a standard 13 plate Aventador and enjoyed it and also a new S last year which I enjoyed less if I’m honest. I exchanged my S for a Performante which is a fantastic car but I do miss the theatre of the Aventador if not the gearbox so I really am tempted to see if I can do a deal without getting well and truly buggered.
There are more Svs about so perhaps now is the time.

Why did you enjoy the S less than the standard 13 car?
I’m wrestling with the which AV conundrum.

Tbh I expected more from the S than it delivered. It didn’t feel that much better than the standard car if I’m honest and the fuel range was ridiculous, 100 miles ish to a tank. I could get twice that in the standard car.
I’m looking at the Sv as a keeper for a long term(long term for me that is) and it’s a car that will keep its value I believe.

Looks like the light blue SV Roadster Romans had for sale has been sold...or taken off the market. Was up for around 375k and had the comfort seats

I believe this, like the green and grey car they had were taken off sale as no mention on there socials that they had sold either.

The green car is now on sale with another dealer.

Selling prices is one thing but why would any dealer advertise a car at at least £25k cheaper than the next cheapest and a lot less than most of similar age and miles. Seems an odd thing to do.

Fair enough it is out of warranty unless it was specced with the additional years from new but it does suggest there must be some story with the car as it has done few miles so likely in pretty good condition, could be a sor fire sale and owner needs it gone quickly I guess.
