Yes Leeds have a lovely blade silver 570s with trackpack, I enquired about it but the part ex offer on my Vantage was pityful tbh so cost to change didn't stack up right now, they knocked 3k off it last week but would still need quite a bit more to get to my level...who knows v tough mkt right now for sure.

Same for me but the other way round Justin. Evora looks to be impossible to give up.

Regarding the market it is industry wide for obvious reasons. Sometimes I get offered meaty stuff to px in or buy and it's a struggle getting undewrites on anything at the moment. I think nearly every deal anyone does has a px at the moment.

I had another look at 570s on the classifieds and you can certainly see that McLaren seem to have brought their used prices in line with indies which is good considering the warranty on older cars. Leeds have a couple of very good cars in at the moment so must resist the urge to go up to the new showroom!
Dealers coming inline with indies will surely drive the indies prices down further
If out of manufacturers 3year warranty, why would you go for a Similar priced car at an indie when dealer car will have 12 months full warranty as an approved used sale.

This is true. It's certainly got my attention I'd ideally like to buy through Leeds as it's my nearest dealer and its good to have that relationship. Nick there was very generous in offering me a drive a couple of months back. Their used stuff in fairness was 10k at least out of kilter before but they are competitive now for sure.

I do think now is a great time to buy. Sure, you could wait until next summer and save a bit more money, but you'll lose out on a year's worth of great motoring

I thought its probably time to update this thread, it's only been about 7 weeks! Not quite sure I can keep up with Daves 650 thread, but it's inspired me to try and keep this relevant. I thought it would be interesting to try and keep them going along side each other.

So it's been a quiet few weeks with the 540 hence the lack of updates, due to an new arrival of justin220 junior. Wee boy arrived mid August but I've yet to take him for a spin in the car. I'll get round to it though.

I had a call from Mclaren offering me a drive of the new GT but couldn't make it due to work commitments. We did have a good chat on the market, residuals etc, and again offered if the deal was right I'd be keen on a 720S. I'm still waiting for any numbers to come through, so I've assumed it's bad news hehe

I have however realised I'm barely going to use it (or a 720S). I cant see me and the Mrs ever going out in it, and it'll be a rare occasion me and the wee man are out together in it. So solo drives only which are at present, few and far between. So I've enquired about changing it, in fact I was quite close to a deal on a Ferrari FF, but couldn't quite make the numbers work for both parties. With the market being totally flat just now means its difficult to justify changing, or even just selling. I'd rather keep it than lose £XXk's.. frown

So I'm approaching 9k miles now, but have been using the car for training courses, nappy runs, and not much else exciting. It still sparks conversations wherever it goes. Even on a training course for work, it was the first thing talked about in the morning. People just seem to love it. So do I, still. Easily the best car I've owned.

A couple of minor issues, which I'd class as a niggle, and one more annoying slightly more major issue. First up is the nose lift is usually almost silent, but every now and again it makes a right racket. High pitch squealing noise. Anyone experienced this?

I noticed the other day shutting the car down after a spirited drive, it started straight back up on its own. I'm hoping it was a sticking start/stop button rather than anything more sinister lurking below. A niggle for me, as its only happened once.

Slightly more major one is, it appears I have more corrosion appearing. Its minor and ill keep an eye on it, but totally disappointing after being without the car for 5 weeks already this year.

So with it staying, I'm half considering an Exhaust upgrade, something like the Larini, or Thorney pipes. Has anyone got any experience of either? Very little online about them and the videos All seem to be of the car sitting revving, rather than actually driving and under load.

I'll get out and get some better pics soon..

Sorry to read you're looking at more corrosion, gutting.

My noes lift has been noisy once, after a long drive in heavy rain. I assumed some water had got into the system and that's what caused the noise. It's never done it before or since.

I swapped out the cat-back exhaust on my 570s for the Larini system. It certainly made it louder, although there wasn't much change in the tone. The main difference is that I hear the turbos a little more. Biggest improvements come with sports cats, but swapping those would impact on the warranty where a cat-back system doesn't. Pleased I did it though.

Screeching nose lift was mentioned on MOC a few weeks back in response to one of the threads I started - he said it happened to him 1 in 10 times.

There is an odd noise on mine which I've never figured out - although I assume it's normal. When I stop the car, and open the front boot to get stuff out I can hear an electrical type whine (not very loud). No idea what it is, and assume it disappears when you lock the car and it goes properly to sleep but always thought it's a bit odd!

Fascinating how they are getting this corrosion issue. Have they got to the bottom of what's causing it?

Something Aston have suffered from for years. Guess there is a knack to prepping / painting aluminium!

Really? When effectively new?
Had a few since the 80s and never seen it.

I've seen posts from owners with pretty new cars, so yes I think it still happens with relatively new Aston's. Maybe not to the extent McLaren are suffering though.

Understood its an issue with the newer Macs, and the first few Gaydon Aston (DB9, 2nd gen Vantage) years. Luckily no sign on my V12 Vantage, nor my 650s. Certainly bubbles is a big topic on the AM forum.

That's my worry, I don't want just more noise, or a louder version of the current sound. I'm hoping for a more tuneful tone..

Good to hear I'm not alone with the front nose lift, I'm not overly worried about it

It’ll not be an issue with 650S (or 12C) as most of the panels are not aluminium.

Its oxidation of the aluminium panels. Apparently need tight control during prep and paint, so that there is a tight seal keeping moisture out. Hence usually occurs on edges/corners where the moisture seal can be breached.

As JerryDXB said, not an issue for cars with composite panels.

Have you thought about a Brooke Race Exhaust (BRE) .? I have it on my 570S and rate it very highly - it's an Inconel x-pipe, so as above, no invalidation of the warranty. Sounds lovely , some good flames when pressing on and good pops and bangs and more turbo sound too and I think it also makes a better, higher pitched sound at the top of the rev range.

Am told it sounds even more amazing from outside the car, I need to get someone to do a drive by for me at some point. Sound is good inside but everyone says from sitting inside the car, the carbon tub will always take away a bit of the noise that those on the outside are being treated too...

On the nose lift squeal, I've only had this twice too out of probably 20 occasions over the last 4/5 months. Funnily enough, I hadn't thought about it until I read the above post but I think both times was when it had been raining too. It's never done it when I get the car out my garage and have to use it to get over the ramp for the garage doors

Remember that the 540c and GT standard exhaust is quieter than the 570s standard system. The standard 570s exhaust being essentially the 'sports exhaust' upgrade on yours, so unless you have the sports exhaust on yours, an aftermarket sports system will be an even bigger step up.

Don't get me wrong, the Larini is a great system but I think the flat-plane crank and turbo configuration of the engine means that it will never sound 'tuneful', the best we can hope for is different grades of 'purposeful' lol, and yes I've also been told it does sound much better from the outside thumbup

Yes good point. Though I suspect a sports exhaust upgrade might not be enough of a change either?

I think we've chatted via email about yours, and I guess it's the same as larini and Thorney, there isnt enough video out there to convince me I'll get enough of a change in sound. All the videos seem to be a car sitting and revving in a garage. Difficult to tell how it actually sounds
