The lift aspects of the dampers do share a common fluid, so if a lift damper fails it will come up as a steering fluid fault not lift. It doesn't affect the suspension in any way. However as the unit (damper with lift fitted) is one and the same and (at the moment, we are working on it) can't be repaired it does mean a new suspension unit, depending on model, approx £2500.
Thus far we've seen about 6, all 650s, nearly all front left damper. The steering is unaffected. So a $35k bill looks more like warranty ramping that real repairs.
I mean it is an entertainment channel designed to draw in as many people in as possible... TBF I'm surprised the preview thumbnail doesn't show it mid-explosion while on fire...
