I have a properly annoying buzz or rattle coming from the engine bay and I'm running out of ideas. I did have a loose exhaust tip that has been fixed (thanks AV) and I also had a slightly loose triangular grill in the diffuser that I've also fixed by wedging some rubber in the gaps. The heatshields are tight and now I don't know what else it could be. Buzz happens around 3k and you can hear it when it's cold as well as warmed up.

Any ideas short of taking it to someone for a proper look?

Probably one of the brackets that mount the exhaust to the gearbox housing has cracked. Did it on mine and it’s a common fault. Nice easy repair though.

Cheers, I think they’re ok but will recheck later. I was reading up on this last night and I’m also going to disconnect the bypass valves and see what happens.

Very common. Once replaced, it should be welded on the rear side to add strength to prevent it happening again.

Hopefully it’s a quick, simple fix OP

Well I'm stumped. Everything seems intact, brackets, grilles, heat shields and valves but still have the buzz at 3k. It sounds as if it's a heat shield that's loose but I'm buggered if I can work out which one, if that's what it is of course. Properly annoying because I now can't unhear it. Ferrari dealers and specialists aren't exactly numerous either. Sigh.

Check the black mesh grills on the air intakes above the rear wheels too. They can become loose and rattle. Mine did anyway.

No joy but thanks. I suspect it'll need to go on a ramp, get the diffuser off and have a beak. It's gone back into storage today so will have another look when it comes out again.

Are you sure its not another one of the exhaust tips welds that have broken. Go out and bang the exhaust tips and see if you hear the same rattle. My F430 did this and it drove me nuts. I had the tips welded and all was fine after

Just had one of them done chap, thought that would have cured it but no. It's been pretty much laid up for the past 2.5 years, only done 700 miles. I've done twice as much in about five weeks so the poor thing is probably shaking itself loose in shock!

Remove these altogether. Much better for the exhaust.

Had the same thing once and it turned out that one of the rear light clusters was loose!
Got to a certain vibration and it buzzed - was seriously annoying...

I had to reject a M4 via the financial ombudsman due to dash rattles they couldn’t fix after 7 attempts. It took 8 months but I won.

Absolute drove me insane and it totally ruined my experience of buying my first sports car, which was brand new from BMW sheffield.

I appreciate your pain. I’d get it to a shop and let them sort it mate.

One of mine was broken but is now fixed, the others are rigid. One thing that someone else found was the arm(s) on the exhaust valve would vibrate at a certain RPM, he fixed it with some springs. I ordered some but they arrived after I'd put the car back into storage rolleyes.

Hmm, the other strange buzz i had with mine was due to the exhaust not being aligned quite right - it would cause some strange buzz/ feeling of pressure in the cabin. They made some adjustments to the exhaust and it went away.

It could be a cracked exhaust pipe tip. It's common I had it on mine and know of 2 others which had it.

Just thought I'd update this but sad to say it's still rattling/buzzing. I've had tips fixed, a loose manifold heat shield rewelded, brackets tightened and stripped bolts replaced but it's still bloody doing it. Took a tech from GTO Engineering out in it yesterday and he can definitely hear something that doesn't sound right so it'll go back to them in the next day or so. Think it's the exhaust valves that may be causing issues. Will update when/if it's finally sorted.
