Hi there

I really like the MSO carbon louvre winged cars but the three for sale on the market:

https://www.harwoods.uk.com/mclaren/used-car-detai...

https://www.alastairbols.com/cars/mclaren-600lt-sp...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202207248...

What I've noticed is these cars have no external carbon packs but they all say they feature unique gloss black exteriors and I also noticed there is no carpet in the car exposing the stunning carbon.

So was carbon external packs not an option on the MSO Louvred cars does anyone know and can anyone remember how much extra the louvres were from factory?

MSO Defined Gloss Carbon Fibre Front Fender Louvres £9,960.00 as a stand alone option.

It took me about six months to find the right spec car, I wanted 1,2,3 along with MSO club sport pack at £18,200.00 this gives you

MSO Clubsport pack
Super-lightweight carbon fibre racing seats ie Senna Seats
Carbon fibre interior upgrade
MSO Defined gloss finish visual carbon
fibre front fender louvres
Titanium wheel bolts with locking wheel bolts.

On a Spider a must for me was pack 3 as it gives you the carbon fibre rear wing and tonneau cover which look fantastic IMHO.

MSO Defined Gloss Finish Visual Carbon Fibre Exterior Upgrade 3 £12,400.00
Carbon fibre fixed rear wing with Matte Black heat shield
Carbon fibre rear deck with integrated exhaust outlets
Carbon fibre exterior door inserts Carbon fibre service cover Carbon fibre tonneau cover

Tyrrel your car is stunning, great buy, what colour is it please?

RBTO what is this orange car you speak off?

It is odd that the current Louvre cars for sale have no exterior carbon, but at the same time they don’t seem to have dark palladium finish but gloss black, the green was at new forest is a 70 plate so maybe was a parts bin car and is said to have the MSO black pack option along with MSO louvres and MSO extended sills.

The gloss black does actually look very nice but like people say here is not very desirable as they’d have it a while plus the brake disc look to have some wear not as bad as some I’ve seen, does look a nice car though.

Gibbons205 it’s an elite colour called lime green, it was the launch colour for the 600Lt Spider, the MSO gloss finish is actually painted carbon fibre, so a little lighter than the standard Palladium plastic.
That is really good to know, so does that mean this car:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202208048...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202207248...

Both seem to mention MSO black pack.

Does that mean these two cars have carbon external packs 1, 2 and 3 but the carbon is painted gloss black?

If the case that is good to know, any thoughts from yourself on the two cars or does anyone know any history on these cars please?

The brake discs point is an interesting one. I have seen many McLarens with very low mileage having discs which look pretty worn to the eye (dull inconsistent appearance and a very rough looking surface) Vs say Porsche or Lamborghini CCBs which always seem to have a shiny smooth appearance despite higher miles. Is this just a manufacturer thing where one brand CCBs shows wear different to others?
McLaren New Forest have three cars:

Red Spider comfort pack with 17k miles - the brakes look new and they confirm they sold this car new to its current owner and has done no track work to their knowledge, the brake condition would seem to confirm this, looks a superb condition car and is very well priced due to high miles but most likely easy miles.

The orange spider they have I tracked down it’s original owner who confirmed track use and the brakes on this car look heavily worn and it’s done less miles at 12k

The green car at 9k miles and a whopping 175k brakes look a little worn so maybe some track miles.

It seems the brakes wear quick with track work but are fine with road driving, as McLaren will charge you around 20k for new brakes it seems a big area of caution they should be smooth and not pitted if in good condition. If they are rough and appear pitted they are more worn so either avoid or use to get
Price down or new brakes fitted as part of the deal.

Anyone considering track work should maybe consider steel options or a set of surface transforms.

The MSO black pack was just marketed as a black pack, lots of the later cars had this fitted. We all assume that it’s painted carbon fibre underneath, until someone proves otherwise.

I love the Napier Green car at Mcforest, it’s my favourite McLaren colour so I am biased.
Is a nice car but the brakes look a bit rough from the photos and it’s quite expensive considering the miles.

The car they also have with 17k miles brakes look in far better condition.

Great to know the 600 LT all the parts are carbon irrelevant of what colour they are painted.

I guess like others have mentioned then what really matters is:
- Car colour
- Seat type
- Some useful options like glove box, louvres, AC, etc

Have you had that price confirmed by McLaren?

When I bought my 650, I also believed a set of brakes would cost me about £20k. However, I needed rear pads at the last service which were about £550 parts and £850 fitted. Guildford told me that had just done all pads and discs on a 675 for £10k, and a 650 would probably come in about £6k.

I don't know the cost of 600LT brakes but I'd be surprised if they were double the cost of 675LT brakes. Obviously it's still a fair chunk of cash, but I'm not convinced it's £20k in reality.
A set of new ceramic disc on Ebay from Mclaren is £13,000, having other cars with ceramics they are typically £4000-7000 a pair before discount, as such your dealer is either very kind or has miss-informed you. I know a 600 LT owner who needed new front disc, pads all round and new front suspension struts and the bill from Mclaren was £27,000, after several complaints due to the failure not been his fault but that of failed sensors I believe in the end Mclaren paid nearly 2/3 of the bill leaving him owing £13.000.

End of the day you don't expect to drop 150k plus on a new approved used car and potentially have a 10-20k bill down the line for brakes, if they are so worn to the point they may need replacement in 5000 miles or less then part of the approved car process should surely have them sorted as part of the preparation.

Like I see it is at least easy to spot worn disc on a 600 LT, so if a car your looking at has worn disc and the mileage is under 15,000 it has done track work and as such you want to aim to get a few grand of the price or negotiate new disc and pads are fitted at the asking price.

Just trying to help out, buying a 600 LT is not easy and just want to help other potential buyers to not get caught out on a car with worn brakes.

No they don't have a look plenty for sale with no glovebox, all seem to have AC but it was a no cost option, so always worth double checking

£13k?? I've seen lots of sets being sold, brand new for circa £4k-£5k...............whoever told you £20k is way, way out....
Please show me ceramics for a 600LT at this price, they really are not that cheap.

Somebody on the owners group is selling a set of OEM front and rear discs for 600LT for £5k.

As I said, I was given prices for 675 and 650 from an official McLaren service centre. The 675 they'd just done was literally parked next to me while we were discussing it so unlikely they'd got the price wrong.

Funnily enough, as part of the discussion I said that I'd seen prices of £20k quoted on the internet, and the service guy said that was wildly inaccurate.
5k is a bargain for ceramic disc, you got a link for this owners group please?

Absolute bargain takes the worry out of buying a 600LT with potentially worn disc.

As per the other thread with your reference to brake discs wearing, since ownership and 5 trackdays and another coming up, the discs on my 570s are fine, it's just been serviced and I'm sure if mclaren felt they could punt some discs into me due to wear they would, but all good on the health check.

Whilst it may be a "thing" with the cars you've seen it is not universal across the board just because the cars have been on the track for balance to your point.
Maybe the issue is a lot of 600 LT were purchased on crazy PCP deals of which the owners never intended to keep the car and always planned to hand them back at end of PCP period. This could be why I am seeing 600LT's with seat foam showing (only P1 seats), the Sedgley Group car has foam exposed on drivers bolster as does another car for sale.

Several cars with rough ceramic disc.

So maybe the issue is because these cars were always a 2 year love affair for many they have not been looked after to the same levels of other models which were not purchased on such crazy PCP deals.

In short 600 LT's were purchased, abused and ragged for two years and then simply handed back and that was always the plan for some of the owners and is now showing in the quality of some of the cars for sale.

The 600 LT is amazing, I want one but as a potential buyer searching for one I've come across said issues and I am just sharing my experiences on the forum.

By doing so I have learnt that a set of ceramic disc can be had for circa £5000 so its not the crazy expense I originally thought it might be, but still to help other potential buyers we should share both the good, bad and the ugly. smile

Does anyone know this car:

https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/13684313

For me it’s perfect spec, volcano yellow, MSO black pack, MSO louvres and other decent options and a good price at 155k.

Just it’s at some random dealer who does not seem to specialise into supercars but it has got warranty.

Wondered if anyone knew the car please?

Its a March 2020 car so warranty expires March 2023.

Its only extended warranties that require a minimum 3 months remaining in order to transfer to the new owner.

Personally think its one if the best if not the best available at the moment.

Very rare in VY; that's a stunning colour in the flesh that pictures just cannot show.
Shame it’s so far away but yes this VY I do like only downside is no external carbon packs. My other favourite is the one at Birmingham which has less miles and is also absolutely spotless, has carbon packs 1 and 2 plus senna seats, downsides are no MSO Louvre or sills but it’s got senna seats.

Maybe market is slowing considering the yellow one has been around since start of August, so for me guess a case of is it worth waiting a few more months to see if similar spec cars drop another 10k or so.

TP20 MCL is this cars original registration.
I’m told by another potential buyer of this car they backed out as supposedly the car was previously tuned and tracked, which was then sold by McLaren to a previous or previous owner which created a court case. That is all I know but think it’s one to skip on as alarm bells ringing, no doubt why it’s not sold.

Whats your concern over a Mclaren being tracked, there are plenty of owners who track them, i get the being tuned part but a Mclaren thats been tracked should be no concern at all, much more confidence inspiring than a garage queen.

If that advert is to be believed its had an mpi from Mclaren for warranty purposes and all good with no work required, it cant get much more comprehensive.

Edited by Streetbeat on Sunday 4th September 09:36
Track is fine as long as condition of car is good all is well.

But been tuned and then sold as approved that is nothing short of a total joke if true. It seems a lovely car and I’m quite tempted by it but if there is possibility it has been tuned I would not want to touch it as McLaren approved or not what happens down the line, could McLaren try to wriggle out of a claim or if there is more truth to it all could it result in the car been hard to move on at a later date.

What worries me is it was sold by McLaren as approved and then the owner discovered it had been tuned just wonder if anyone here knew the history of car as it seems odd that such a young car could have such a checkered history.

Like I say it looks a lovely car and it’s a real shame about the tuning potential issue, guess got to just keep looking as for every bad car there is potentially 10 great cars.

Just seen the video....i guess the owner was a little naive to allow that to be posted to youtube.

Playing devils advocate though, i am not sure how Mclaren would know its been tuned, i am guessing it was returned to std tune before resale/trade in etc etc
All modern car ECU's can detect if a tune or modification has been made, even if it is now stock. Having worked with tuners in the past modern cars log every time the ECU is updated, so flashing a remap will count as one update, flashing back to stock will count as another.

As such if a warranty claim is made on say the engine or gearbox, the latter of which can be an issue on the 600 LT, then Mclaren HQ will no doubt check the flash counter on the car to see if all is well, at which point a flag will be raised and the warranty claim rejected, then starts the battle with Mclaren and potential court case.

It really is just not worth the stress or hassle on a £150,000 car, people who are remapping, modifying super cars should really be mindful once they have done this they are knocking 10-30k of the value of the vehicle by doing so and should never try to hide as such because it is always easily detectable by the manufacturer.

Now this car comes with Mclaren extended warranty to which I suspect Mclaren have not scanned the ECU for tampering otherwise they would be unwilling to put a warranty on the car.

Anyone buying this car should be also going to Mclaren and saying I am considering buying TP20 MCL and it comes with an official Mclaren extended warranty but I know it has been modified and tuned in the past, as such can you confirm the warranty is legitimate and should a claim be required on the drivetrain will said claim be authorised.

I don't want to spend my 150k on a car where if a part of the drivetrain fails and a claim might be rejected for a tune/remap/modification I never carried out.

As such the car needs to be 130-140k tops and sold without warranty or the seller needs to have in writing from Mclaren that they accept the car was tuned but will still put a warranty on the car and pay out on any drivetrain claims.
