Tavarish P1 rebuild
Discussion
So far it just seems to be a way of getting the numbers up by picking at bits and bobs.
The reality is that it needs to go right back to a bare tub and every single component inspected, cleaned or replaced. Every fastener will be corroded by that salt water.
Same with the engine and box.
Given it will always be a storied car then he would be better off ditching all the battery and hybrid gubbins, going to town on the engine itself to up the bhp and making it a P1 GTR copy.

I very much expect that's exactly what he'll do. I think he'll do something custom with the battery pack though, although I like your suggestion. The reality is that it needs to go right back to a bare tub and every single component inspected, cleaned or replaced. This car needs to produce a lot of content to be profitable for the channel so there's no issue with him literally dismantling the whole thing. Probably one of the few occasions (outside of McLaren themselves) where this makes sense to do from a monetary perspective.

He mentioned he will repair some parts. And, probably produce som new in carbon. The battery @ 116k $ is a issue. Wonder how he will fix that problem.
The battery has probably some management system that prevent from any other battery solution.
And running the car on the V8 engine alone makes the show on Youtube as a little failure.
Some sponsorship from the battery manufacturer in Canada could help. But 116k $ is a big gift.
So far all the episodes have been tasters just to garner a bigger audience, they have yet to get into the meat of the project. The 675 build shows they know what they need to do, it will be interesting to watch soon enough.
They have also now learned that just slapping a pair of bigger turbo's onto an unopened motor and upping the boost does not last very long!
With battery and ev tech being far superior to how it was when the P1 was conceived then I expect they already have a more modern and more affordable solution to the torque fill the old system provided. The pure ev element of the P1 was just a fad for a few miles of use, no real need for that part.

He mentions going aftermarket for some parts so this is an indicator for me that he's not looking to return it to factory condition.
I think he'll therefore look at ditching the hybrid battery or similar.
Big chunk of change that someone is bank-rolling on this project though......
Finding the logic for the management battery system is a real challenge. To do it without a working original battery is even more challeging. And it has to work with the ECU and other electronics.I think he'll therefore look at ditching the hybrid battery or similar.

I guess McLaren will not be pleased if the battery supplier reveal the logic.
So, reverse engineering is a must. Or if a P1 battery shows up @ Ebay.
I guess the youtube renovation will be many episodes.

Would be interesting if he removed all the battery stuff and just put the engine back
I asked McLaren a long time ago if they could build a P1 sans the battery, answer was it would be a huge undertaking and you would need to redo all the engine mapping and rewrite a ton of code. It would probably be easier to try to swap it all out for a Senna engine.
Episode 5 is out, enjoy.

Tavarish has a positive approach at least. I would be scared to death. Just replacing all cables and electronics must be a nightmare. Looking forward already to next episode.
Good promo for V Engineering. This video will gain them a lot of business. Excellent.

Good to see V Engineering getting involved. That wiring loom he had at the end looks like a complete nightmare to sort out…honestly if he gets this car back into working order I’ll be astonished!
The way he's talking about "upgrading" some of the bespoke parts suggests to me that this will take an extremely long time, if ever, before its working reliably.Edited by RSbandit on Thursday 15th June 09:34
As for the wiring loom - they look complicated, but if you have the correct wiring diagram, it's pretty straight-forward. He also has the one in his car as a physical guide. I'm an electrical noob, but even I could retrofit a heated seat with 5 motors and a computer and bypass the memory function from a modern audi.
Tavarish is sourcing parts in UK.
