If you go Mclaren approved for repair/repaint it will be eye-watering, however, any decent bodyshop will be a fraction of the cost, repairing and repainting a panel is no different to any other car.
My 570s had corrosion warranty, both new panels and repair/repaint over my time with it and I also had the nose cone repainted at a local bodyshop as some idiot had drilled holes into it for the number plate, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between approved and local trusted bodyshop.
My new to me 720s has a couple of small blemishes and I have no concerns with going to my trusted local for the job.
Completely share this view. The cost of managing any corrosion on these cars as they get older needn't be much at all in the scheme of things. My 570s had corrosion warranty, both new panels and repair/repaint over my time with it and I also had the nose cone repainted at a local bodyshop as some idiot had drilled holes into it for the number plate, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between approved and local trusted bodyshop.

Are McLaren releasing the paint codes nowadays ?
IIRC someone even published them on pH a year or so ago.It might have changed, but even when Thorney introduced their paint service (via a third party) they stated that it would "match" but wasn't using the official codes.
If my car needs paint, it would still be going to an approved bodyshop.

I've seen mixed info about this - I thought they still didn't.

Mclaren uses Akznobel Sikkens paint, while mclaren may not have "released" the codes they are readily available as per post in 650s prices. It might have changed, but even when Thorney introduced their paint service (via a third party) they stated that it would "match" but wasn't using the official codes.

With regards to matching, all paint will be affected by uv over time, fading etc, so they will match to these effects, they will have to start with the codes and tune from there, they can't simply guess the pigments to get to a colour.

I bought a Black Collection last summer, similar price. These cars are an S spec car (suspension, brakes, steering) in a GT body with the MSO titanium exhaust. List price was £180k, some £25k over a base spec GT.
Thank you - I just wish this model had a retractable roof Edited by Aero8 on Wednesday 5th March 10:39

The GT shape is very pretty but I know I'll miss the open air

What should you budget to have a wing repaired/repainted then? Anyone had any experience of what the cost is outside of the warranty period?
I was quoted £1,500 + vat to have both front wings and the bonnet painted by an approved body shop in 2022 (Volcano Orange).Zippee said:

I know.. I do like the GT styling though. It has been commented to me that it looks like a mini P1, particularly as its black.... which I would have never have chosen as a colour otherwise.

I think Thorney mentioned around £1k per panel in one of their YT videos, but if you are painting more than one panel at the time I assume it would work out cheaper per panel etc. BlackR8 said:

I read one of the early posts from the OP about £9k of prep work including paintwork and freaked out about the cost of corrosion. Perhaps it was £8k of other work and only £1k for the bodywork
I happened to see this car when it was taken in before the prep etc, and IIRC the corrosion was very small on the door or wing (can't recall exactly). Also if interested I would suggest asking the dealer for a breakdown which I am sure they would give you.davek_964 said:

I wouldn't expect to pay more than £200 or so with my local guy for a front wing. Although mine's a solid colour, the volcanos are more difficult. I've known him for over 30 years and trust him more than the approved shops.BobM said:

Thanks again all.
After a few days musing it over i know id miss the roof off so think this 570 is off the cards. Dropping the roof off my AMG turns out into an altogether different experience and one i now know I wouldn't want to lose. Need to try a 570 spider I think
I can thoroughly recommend this one then After a few days musing it over i know id miss the roof off so think this 570 is off the cards. Dropping the roof off my AMG turns out into an altogether different experience and one i now know I wouldn't want to lose. Need to try a 570 spider I think

Unfortunately having sat in several McLarens now I’m going to need buckets as a minimum even in the hardtops as at 6’3” I simply don’t fit properly/comfortably with the comfort seats etc … I have a thread running about this very issue with the later model GT also.
Good luck with the sale.
