Where did the money go? Call me a sceptic, but I bet the directors of Riversimple have great pension funds!

I suspect not actually.

Running a small automotive engineering and R&D company is expensive, mostly in terms of paying your workforce if you want to employ really good engineers.

Yes, the directors of RS have made a nice income, and kept themselves and their employees in a job for a few years, at mostly the tax payers expense, but i'm not to upset about that (we spend billions on defense systems that we can never actually use for example).

The fundamental issue is that todays passcar market is simply not interested in niche, ultra-high efficiency vehicles. Take the BMW i3, a car that really goes about as far as you can go in terms of compromises in the name of low consumption, and yet is nowhere as compromised as the Rasa, and that car hardly has flown out the door (200,000 built this month, after 7 years production) despite being backed by a massive OE and having a premium badge on the front.
