this is why you need to talk to an electrician....
Probably a good idea biggrin Should I have said a 10A MCB not RCD?
yup - 10A MCB would have been right.

the continentals have a very lax attitude to electrics... lol seen quite a few installs over the years that would scare the bejezzuz from me in europe.

when you go abroad you start to appreciate our electrics.

I see that france use alot of TT systems which is very different from our electrics. TT means that the tera or earth is seperate at the consumer. The only earth that exists is back at the distribution transformer. There is no earth connection to the location all your earth is met through the earth. that resistance can mean that an earth fault might not draw enough current to blow a fuse and you would be relying on the RCD to trip.

It is thus understandable why they get a little freaky for charging... it opens up some risk for them.

Electrical systems are different and not fully understanding whats going on or how it is set up you could be unwittingly exposing yourself to issues / risk.

I have over the years made use of a 3kw isolating transformer and thats been set up with an RCD and an earth rod to give me a TN-C-S supply. thats seperate from the local supply.
