Nurburgring 24
Discussion
The Germans don't do quiet campsites at the N24, but it's all part of the atmosphere. The start arriving the weekend before, and are generally inebriated from that point until when they leave after the race is finished.
I went in 2016, and 2019, and stayed both times in an apartment about 20 minutes away from the weekend prior. It gave us all a chance to explore the area without the crowds, and it definitely paid off in 2016 when there was the random hail storm that red flagged the race, and we had a nice warm apartment and plenty of food while we waited for the restart.

No such thing as a quite campsite TBH BUT travel destinations camping is probably the best bet but be warned it is a little out the way near the GP track.
Radio Le Mans do cover it from memory but youll need internet to listen to it as its not on the radio like Le Mans. Pre warning signal in the area is shocking especially if your on O2. I have a expensive brick when I go unless I am on wifi, its actually nice not to have a phone lol
It is totally different as you can see car positions on the windscreen as they are lit up so you can keep a eye on things. The shops always have food, beer etc and locals are brilliant. It is how ever ALOT of walking - dont think about driving its pointless lol
wsn03 - The paths around the ring are not wide when N24 is on so you'll be walking not biking to be fair
Thank you, it sounds like Assen MotoGP, I'll just drink a lot and wear ear plugs!Radio Le Mans do cover it from memory but youll need internet to listen to it as its not on the radio like Le Mans. That's a real shame about Radio LM, but a massive bonus about the car positions on the windscreens - if I can even get timing screens on the internet now and then I'll be happy enough.
To be fair I'm going to see the Nürburgring used what it was designed for, bearing in mind until a year ago I thought it held no races anymore. However seems a well supported race so I'd like to at least know which manufacturer is in front.
Travel Destinations makes things simple. I think I have read about the site you are referring to - that is where I wanted to be because apart from anything else it is close to the town.
As for the paths - we are going to bring the small motorbikes so that we can move around the surrounding roads without being stuck in traffic, we will use google maps. When we get to the area we want we will park up and walk, With a 12 mile track the bikes will come in very handy.

Good idea, but I like the campsites to take in the atmosphere - this is probably the only time I will go to the event.I went in 2016, and 2019, and stayed both times in an apartment about 20 minutes away from the weekend prior. I reckon I'll regret saying all this by about 3am on the first night, just as the temperature dips below 4 C

The Travel Destinations site is a section of a much larger campsite isn't? Any advantages over just booking myself? If I do go it'll be lumped into my Le Mans trip, so I've no need to book a package including travelFredericRobinson said:

cons - cost
I've actually got a small apartment booked in Kelberg (10minutes away by car) The area has cottoned on now and ramped the prices up to silly figures. It is a great race and more manic. I'd go as far to say you cant compare it to Le Mans really both brilliant in there own way. Take thick socks and decent walking shoes though lol

I think you stayed in that hotel last time, was it expensive? You had a mega view. I will probably try camping, then hotel it on the way to Le Mans.
Hotel an der Nordschleife https://www.booking.com/hotel/de/an-der-nordschlei...
I think it was about £235 for the night and that was single room. Yes, it was top floor with a view of the track. However, I think I got lucky because the room came available due to a cancellation. I grabbed it on the Wednesday or Thursday I think?

Went there for a VLN race... on the sunday was touristenfarthen and I could lie in my bed and see the cars
I'll be camping for sure
I'm struggling to get an extra person to come on my trip because of the length of time I'm going, probably making my plan to ride around on little motorbikes a non-starter now that I have 2 teenagers to ferry around instead of one.
Question - can you get around in a car - say if I want to see some further parts of the track? I'm thinking like late afternoon/ early evening? Or is it complete grid lock? I don't mind a bit of traffic jam if it saves me a load of hassle with the motorbike plan.

If I was to camp at the GP track how much good viewing on the Nordschleife am I going to be able to walk to, say 4/5 miles out?
I've obviously never been so know nothing, but I have found that google maps not only lays out the new and old course (with arrows showing the direction), but it even pins all the viewing locations (available with pictures etc). You can see there are plenty of roads surrounding the circuit that will easily enable you to walk up to 4 / 5 miles for viewing as far as I can tell.
I will be using google maps when I'm there
