In the past we've travelled to Le Mans from Cherbourg in a convoy of TVRs. However this year we've decided to go via Calais (mainly due to the horrendous price hike on the Portsmouth/Cherbourg route).

Anyway as I'll be in a shopping car this time I'm just interested in getting there as quickly as possible. Can anyone tell me the quickest route and how long it's likely to take to get there (we should arrive in Calais at approx 10:30 Thursday morning).

cheers,
mike.

Take the A16 from Calais (this is a peage section)
Then the A28 between Abbeville and Rouen (it's a slip road off onto the A16 to pick up the A28)
Fight your way through Rouen - not that hard really
Short section of the A13 to take you to the junction with the N138
N138 to about Alencon (maybe earlier if they've been busy) and then pick up the new autoroute south to Le Mans.

The journey via Rouen should take between 4 and 6 hours.

Now then Guy!

Surely it should take between 3 1/2 hours and 6hrs!!!

Watch out for a couple of places where you enter on to big RNs and then actually have to come off at the next exit - it's caught some of us out a couple of times...
Plus through Rouen, there is the first sign to "Le Mans", but there's a couple of 'nasty' roads and junctions, to try and catch you out!!

As Lensey mentions, the new Peage bits are in place, but surely one of the best bits of the journey are the RNs near LM.. good overtaking opportunities and there's nothing that brings a smile more to my face than seeing about 4/5 Brit Cars all pull out and go for it, or all pull out and then pull back in.

Of course remember the point is to get there in one piece. Stay safe, plus I'll have a few necessary bits and pieces (only fuses, spanners, bulbs, etc).. Not that I'm expecting my car to break down of course!! Come and find us in Camping Bleu, or put a message out on Radio LM..

The City Region of the TVRCC planned a nice route a few years back. Its still on the web at;

www.tvrcity.com/lemans/98/lemansroute.html

Its complete with photographs of all the major junctions and map pages. It misses out the main E402 down into Le Mans that can get very busy (and dangerous).
