Hi all, advice needed

looking to take my son (22) to Le Mans for our first trip next year, and there are so many choices and prices I don't know where to start.

I have been to Le Mans twice in 2004 / 2005 but this was different as through work, so accommodation etc was all taken care of.

Looking to drive down Thursday / Friday and like to know what's available and where from.

many thanks

Well the ACO will still have availability but these will be for the less popular sites. The tourist office may have a bit more choice but the british agencies will have more,
If you look on beer mountain they have good up to date info on each site, Have a good look and then see what you can get.
Each site has plus and minus points so list what is essential and what are nice to have.
ACO will be the cheapest place followed by the tourist office in le mans, then the agencies but getting the site that you want is worth paying a little extra for to be honest.
However if you wait until nearer the time then people always sell excess camping places so you may get a better site for a reasonable price, it is however a risk but you will always get beausjour even on the day you arrive.

I’m a huge fan of Lycian Events and the campsite on the Porsche Curves.

British run and staffed
Secure campsite
Really good loos and showers
Their own trackside viewing on the Porsche Curves
Cater for bring your own tent, pre-erected tents, motorhomes etc.
Great marquee with big screen tv’s, bar and really good catering.
Catering packages for up to three meals a day, including a Saturday night bbq and traditional Sunday lunch!
Complimentary minibus transfer to the main circuit

As a PHer who went for the first time 5 years ago (& has been every year since taking various friends to experience the event), l have been more than happy with PH partner 1st Tickets on Bleu Nord on the main PH site (security, clean loos / showers etc.)

We take the easy option of drive up to site, pre-erected tents & brekkie/evening meals & just put our bags in the car and head home afterwards. We travel overnight Wednesday & come home Monday. In true fashion, you get what you pay for & it depends how much you want to do yourself vs convenience?

The main thread is below for 1st Tickets & PH & occasionally we get a few "perks" of being with the PH guys....this year they did a quiz & the winners got a trip to the Aston Martin team pit during the race. I know that there are currently spaces on the main PH/1st Tickets site.

Most sites are now allocated pitches so you dont have to arrive the week before to get a decent spot really. I camp on HA these days. Clean toilets, showers and power (not that i use it) security is strict these days so likes of last year no glass to go to circuit etc.

I still stick to the same rules from years ago, anything valuable i leave locked out of sight in the car though.

If i was you I'd go to the PH or speed chills etc who do it all for you and if you like it book once home with travel destinations etc and start planning to do it yourself for 2019

You can’t be airtrack either. Now run by Thomas Cook a Sport. Excellent location in circuit very close to paddock and a few minutes from the tram.

Expensive but worth it.

Now have a caravan so we have moved back to public sites and reside on Houx with its electrics.

We booked everything direct wit the ACO and camped at Beausejour this year. It seems to have shed its aweful reputation from a few years ago. It was relatively quiet and our neighbours were friendly.

The food inside of the track is dreadful - all baguettes and chips. For that reason alone you may want to look at those that do a meals option. As per a post above I have been very tempted by Lycian Events for all of the reasons stated. However, it and similar such sites are expensive. I reckon you pay £150 per head extra for the ferry and camping; i.e. Excluding the food.

On cost grounds therefore we'll be doing it ourselves again. We're trying the Classic next year and will book Bleu Nord campsite which is a lot nearer the grandstands than Beausejour.

One big tip. Travel down to Le Mans on the Thursday so that you can go to the Classic British Welcome at Ste Saturnin on the Friday:

Have great time!

I’ve taken one or both of my lads (25+ yo) to Le Mans for the last three years. None of us are really into our camping, so we wanted a modicum of comfort. We’ve used Travel Destinations at Porsche Curves - very well run, great facilities, very secure (we have a lot of camera kit with us). Also has its own viewing bank at one of the fastest corners on the circuit, so we can be watching cars within a minute of leaving the tent.

Yes, we could probably do it for half the cost, but the inconvenience would be substantial

Highly recommended
