Hi. I'm pricing up for me and my 11 year old son to go to our first le man.

Will probably get a ferry first thing on the friday, returning sunday night. I'm looking to book a camping pitch. I don't mind a bit of fun and lack of sleep, but nothing too full on given my sons age!

Can you seasoned visitors help recommend please?

Cheapest seems to be the official (aco?) Website. 82 euros admission and about 70 euro for pitch at beasejour, although reading this thread makes me think paying a bit more for blue nord would probably be a good idea?

Really depends on budget. Private site offers a lot more but primarily peace of mind.
It would be good to be happy that your 11 year old can walk about within site compounds and use marquee etc without worrying.
24hr security, But it costs of course. Budget £500 + crossing + your race ticket. Your boy gets in free.

To add one more.
If your budget doesn't stretch to the above, then do Bleu Nord £95 from an agent. The pitches are marked and unmolested. It will be waiting for you when you arrive. If you choose Beau and arrive on Friday, then you will be at the back of beyond and a half hour walk to the village. Don't let others convince you to go to Beau unless you have to!

Definitely this. If only for Thursday so you can watch some qualifying. And if it suits you, the driver's parade in town on Friday - Not my thing, too many crowds, but it's worth hitting town for some atmosphere and food.

Remember that with the race finishing at 4pm, and all the French leaving at 4:05pm, Le Mans will be gridlocked. Plus, there are major roadworks north of Le Mans, and the A28 toll booth at Rouen.

Call in with flu, and do Thursday to Monday.

Ok, cheers chaps. No way I could take him out of school 3 days. Sounds like it would be worth getting there thursday though.

Just need to get it past the mrs!

Just say to school he’s going on a “French trip” & show him some of the historic stuff on the way back & help him do some preparation for a school project/presentation when he gets back wink

He's 11. It's not like he's about to sit his GCSE exams. When my lad was 11 he came for six days. You just need to ring the school on Thursday am with the sickness and diahorrea thing. That guarantees he is off Friday with the 48 hour rule. And his mum rings in to say you're keeping him off Monday just to be sure he's better.
Believe me, it's something he will never forget and will thank you forever for.

After wanting to go for 30 years, last year was my first experience and I loved it and whilst the camping was half the fun this year we have decided to do the Flexotel Village with Travel Destinations.

Cant wait!! biggrin

2nd year with a new group, but 9th year in a row can't wait.

booked up in Houx easily the best public site, in the middle of everything.

We started off in Maison Blanche about 30 yards from the Track (doesn't exist anymore) so close you could tell the cars by the vibration through your airbed!!!

down Thursday back Monday!!!

In 1998 I camped at Karting Nord about 15 metres away from the track, and every time the Panozes went by, the car alarm of our neighbour's car went off! Sweet memories biggrin

Got a quote through from them. I’m doing the classic this year. More than likely going to be on their BN site. See you there if you are!

Busting the Le Mans cherry with my boy. Due to his work commitments it will be a bit of a taster, we are arriving Friday tea time. I know we'll miss the parade and other stuff earlier in the day but are there any foreseeable issues arriving at this time? Staying at Premier Vert, I'll be the bloke asking endless questions! Also what is Premier Vert like Sunday night, leaving Monday morning?

Really looking forward to it.
Thanks
Jonny

I might be wrong, but Premier Vert is little more than a car park isn't it?
