2021 - Don't get too excited
Discussion
It is true. As previously explained, Covid will cease activity for the months of July and August for the holiday season to take place. This by ministerial decree. So from the 30/6/21 all is clean and green. I have friends who were going to the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend, staying on a luxury yacht in the harbour but it now looks, what with the requirements for recent tests before leaving and 10 day lock down when they get back, as if they are not taking it up. Anyone want to buy luxury tickets at half price? Only £8,500 for the four days Thursday - Monday.
Question if I may.
We carried our tickets for GE and camping from last June to the September date and then as we all know behind closed doors. I am assuming they will be valid for August (pending spectators etc etc) but realised I don’t have anything from ACO saying so. My party now questioning if we need to get refund and re-buy. I think not but welcome thoughts ??

Being France this rule is written in putty so we'll await their decision. Like the start time too. They changed that for the World Cup some years back.
There were a few years where "When's the traditional start time this year?" was a running joke in my group as we'd done races down in the official progamme as starting at "...the traditonal time of 3pm.", "...the traditional time of 4pm." and "...the traditional time of 5pm".Truckosaurus said:
Indeed, and they announced the change as "...at the new traditional start time."
To clarify matters, they have established a new tradition of changing the start time ad hoc. Remember, the ACO is always right. It depends on how much moolah they get from the TV rights, or the World Cup, or the international tiddlywinks championship.Tyre Smoke said:
I thought they refunded all last year's tickets? No way they will still be valid thus year. Imagine the carnage!
Ah is that right? We received a credit note. Which we're fine with if we can buy tickets for this year and there isn't an onerous testing or quarantine requirement (which would probably be untenable for some of our guys).
Quite what happens if the ACO is unable to accommodate spectators and they don't sell tickets...

I'm glad you posted that - I'd completely forgotten they'd issued credit notes, and was assuming my tickets had been rolled over!We received a credit note. I’m just going to allow my credit note to refund. I can imagine all sorts of hassle trying to use credit note reference number. Could be surprised, but doubt it.
If spectators are allowed and I do decide to buy tickets for 2021, I’ll just buy them without referencing credit note.
At this time I’m mentally dismissing this year and just stay at home. I’m not sure I want the hassle of working around covid measures. Focus efforts on getting back to normal for 2022.

Did I miss something too... has Le Mans 24hrs 2022 been confirmed as 11-12 June 2022? I was hoping they'd drop it back a week as it's shifting further away from the longest day! The earliest it's been held in the last 20 years is 11-12 June (2011) and more recent 18-19 June in 2016 (as well as 2005).
A slight misconception I fear. It isn't the longest day that is the bellwether but the long tradition of holding the 24 Hours on the 24th weekend of the year. 2022 starts with the first weekend on Jan 1st, making five weekends in January, and the 24th weekend is the 11/12 June. Being France this rule is written in putty so we'll await their decision. Like the start time too. They changed that for the World Cup some years back. HTHETA:- Thinking on, the 24 Hour Classic has set a tradition of being the first weekend in July, usually three weekends after the main race, and that would be July 1st. Their web site says "first or second weekend in July" to fit in with all the clearing up etc after the main race. So they are awaiting the ACO decision too it seems. But Travel Destinations site says specifically "30th June - July 3rd" so that confirms 11/12 June for the main race. The putty is setting.

We have one ferry option where I live and their newly released timetable for summer is useless. Probably the nail in the coffin for the trip now (if spectators allowed).
Only evening sailings on weds-fri to France getting in around 2000. Not a deal breaker but not great. However no sailings back on the Monday with only option being back at ferry for 1530 on the Sunday.
Looks like 2022. I’d rather do a proper trip than a compromised option.
I gave up France when my mate told me he couldn't go away for this years - knowing its all a bit up in the air I was ok with a weekend at his place (his family are going away).
To my absolute horror it turns out my wife's birthday clashes, and if there's one thing she doesn't compromise on its that. FFS.
I really just need to write this stupid year off. Hopefully I will get to watch a lot of it from the hotel as we inevitably spend her birthday on holiday.

Take her to Le Mans.
I'd actually like to do that...however...i made the rule no women, my image would be ruined. In all seriousness im taking her to Le Mans Classic practice day, she might actually enjoy it cos it'll be upmarket i presume, and a laid back civilised affair.
She's more a Wimbledon sort of woman. However, interestingly she's always enjoyed the Isle of Man motorcycle racing atmosphere...but won't go to any other races in England. I think the Classic will suit well for just a few hours plus the nice hotel and meals out...and a good excuse for me to so 2 Le Mans in the sane year pretending I was being thoughtful
