Another 'car bought but missing features' post
Discussion
As per the subject really. Bought a Nissan Juke for other half recently but found the following features missing despite them being advertised on AutoTrader.
Around View Monitor, Blind spot monitoring, Lane departure warning system, Moving object detection, park assist.
I spoke to the dealer afterwards but they just said they had no say on what 'features' AutoTrader displays 'it just pulls in specs based on make/model etc.'.
We didn't really know what ParkAssist exactly was until we looked into it more after buying and when I questioned the dealer about it he just said because it had a rear camera that's what he would class as ParkAssist. I find this a little hard to believe as they have another Juke on their site with ParkAssist and have gone to the trouble of showing a picture of the dashboard screen with ParkAssist in action.
Anyway, the dealer has sort of said 'that's it, I was happy with the car when bought etc.' and to be honest if it was just one or two minor features then I'd put it down to experience but in this instance I feel ParkAssist is quite an important feature to be missed (as well as the other features).
The car was £10k, other half would like parking sensors fitted which would cost between £150 - £200, is it reasonable to ask for £200 from the dealer and we'll all put it down to experience ?

Well yes, that's more than reasonable. But......
You should have checked the spec before you bought it.
The dealer shouldn't advertise spec it doesn't have, and if it later transpires that they did then saying 'tough titties' doesn't quite cut it really.
If you're happy with £200 back, the dealer should take your arm off!

Is 'park assist' Nissan's version of self parking? If so, those systems generally work well OK but few people use them as they're quite laborious. Wife's Tiguan has it and I've tried it a couple of times - she's never used it.Around view monitor is the 360 camera thing - that's the one I'd be most bothered about. Blind spot assist is also pretty good. Lane departure is annoying.
Only thing I'd say is that on a used car these systems are very expensive to fix if they go wrong so avoiding them might not be a bad thing - usually the side cameras are in the door mirrors so if one gets damaged it makes replacing them very expensive and the system has to be re-calibrated too.

On a side note, I had self parking on my A-Class Merc and loved it for parallel parking, so easy to use.
I do have a degree of sympathy for dealers though trying to keep up to speed with the number of features and naming conventions available on modern cars.

You can ask the dealer but I suspect they have some sort of T&C which gets them out of things like this, especially if AutoTrader does in fact add features based on model etc.
They might have T&Cs however they also have legal obligations, including one to provide their consumers with non-misleading advertisements.Honestly sounds like grounds to return the car. Yes you should of checked before signing over but if you bought on the fact it had 360 cameras and park assist as advertised then they should take the car back.
Self parking is a waste of time but the 360 cameras, blind spot and cross warning are very useful to have. We had them on a Qashqai and it was great at picking up cars when reversing out of blind spots.

Around View Monitor and Park Assist sound like the same thing to me for this type of car, a 360 camera and some parking sensors. Obviously on newer and higher end cars we're starting to get the self-park functionality but I won't pretend to know exactly what Nissan labelled as 'ParkAssist' on the Jukes.
Lane Departure Warning System I'd be rather miffed about if advertised as having but wasn't present, I'd like to think I don't need it but I'm sure we've all had those times where you're a little too tired and that warning could be what tells you your attention isn't great and you should pull over for a coffee and some fresh air.
No idea what moving object detection is... Again, the problem is that if you went and saw the car in person then that's where you're supposed to check for the features you care about, if you've bought over the internet then the distance selling regs provide so much more protection for this type of thing.
Car dealer too lazy to check the accuracy of their adverts?
Or doesn't care?
Or thinks the Autotrader disclaimer will protect them?
You choose, but at the end of the day you've bought a car that's "not as described"
You can ask for a refund, or accept a compromise.

You didn't know what Park Assist was till after buying the car and now it's apparently a critical item that's missing?
Nope, didn't know what ParkAssist was till after buying the car. Having said that, nor did/does the dealer. Is it critical ? In the grand scheme of things, no, not really. If the dealer digs their heels then I'll probably just put it down to experience and move on with life but having researched similar experiences on PH it would appear some dealers are more flexible on these things than others. I'm just gauging what PH members would think reasonable.

Car purchased 10 days ago so well within timeframes but have no desire to return it, we're really pleased with the car but the missing features have left a bitter taste. As I said in another post, if the dealer digs their heels in then we'll probably move on with life but worth asking the question first.

AutoTrader have supplied me a copy of the ad (excellent service if anyone ever needs their help)If you want to take it further contact Citizens advice.
It's a free service, they know the laws, and have template letters on their website for you to use if you want a refund.
What ever people might say about you having to check things, you've been miss sold.
If it was advertised with those features, and you wanted them, then yes you should complain.
I would expect them to retrofit them (assuming the basic electrical loom will cope with that) for free, plus a bit of goodwill.
The point that the dealer says ‘that’s how Auto-Trader advertise it’ is nonsense to my mind. It is up to the dealer to ensure it is correct.
I agree that the issue of equipment and especially ‘packs’ can be a nightmare to interpret.

Personally I think it's unreasonable and dealers should stand by their adverts I would caveat that here, though, by assuming you paid what you thought was the right price for a car without all the bits you didn't know about, so what do you want out of the situation?
