My little Seat Ibiza is going back in a few months and on the look for something new. Not really inspiring at the moment.

Looking at a salary sacrifice scheme at work I can get the Kia EV3 GT S line for 1+35 5k miles at £356 (after tax savings) which includes tyres and servicing. Also get £1k towards a charger install. I don't think anything comes close to that at the moment…. unless I have missed anything interesting?

What salary sacrifice provider is that? That seems decent, we use Tusker and I’ve not seen a good deal from them or years.

Was that the 5 or 7 seater model?

Edit: I've just had a quick read online. It would appear that the PHEV is not available with 7 seats?

Skoda Karoq is a five-seater

Skoda Kodiaq is a five-seater or seven-seater
The Kodiaq PHEV is a five seater only. The batteries fit where the back row of seats would drop into. I believe the PHEV boot capacity is the same, just no option for the extra seats.

My 2 year lease ( with Zen) on my 308 is around 9th March. It’s due another service first week of March. Can I send it back it back towards the end of February and avoid servicing it just before it goes back? Car currently telling me it needs a service in 6 weeks.

Its with Novalease. Just not sure if I want to commit in case I leave the company before the 3 years.

Check the terms, my SSS has pretty decent conditions, think something like 6/4/2 payments in 1/2/3rd year of lease if you terminate early.

You don't have to go to a main dealer to get the service (I didn't with the 2x 3008 that I had).
Maybe worthwhile checking the cost of that vs terminating early and penalty?

Nope, cheapest PHEV currently by a country mile, I just did a deal with Rachel at Simpsons Skodas in Preston last week, slightly different at £3200 down and £267 x 23, but that was for the SE-L.... no admin fees using a dealer

Someone posted earlier about a Karoq 1.5 DSG 9+23 at £291.... not even Hybrid, let alone PHEV...

Edited by jbcalvin on Friday 17th January 20:31
Is that on a lease?

Hi all,

Sorry to digress but if anyone can help. XC90 is being collected by the dreaded Manhiem in 2 weeks.

Rear passenger light is cracked and the front number is cracked and missing a piece. replacement cost if I DIY it will be around £700.

Are repair costs generally cheaper or dearer if I just leave it with collection company/lease company to bill me? I’ve heard Manhiem are a nightmare

They will ruin you over that.

Brand new parts from Volvo prices + fitted price.

That may not be correct. It all depends on what your contract states, if it states main dealer only and you have it serviced at an independent garage you may be charged at the end of the agreement.

I sent an A35 back 6 weeks or so early to avoid the big service - no issues at all, and Merc didn't even charge me an early penalty! IIRC it's usually 50% of the remaining lease.

The Ariya is good value at the moment;

https://www.leaseloco.com/car-leasing/nissan/ariya...

Chargers are about £1000 fitted, if you're only doing 20-30 miles/day are 3 pin granny plug would be ok.
Thanks for that - I will have a look.
I need to check this against a salary sacrifice scheme Ive got, but need to wait for Arval to reach out with details.
So, interestingly, when taking it a bit further with Lease Options, its on a special. Initial auto quote gives me the option to accept, but states nothing about colour of the car.
The one that Lease Options contact with is bumped as the cheaper version were the more basic pain, so a bit more expensive (covering the paint at +£700).
3+23, at 8K is still 20% wtih amortised £448 without maintenance and with £300 fee included.

I've found that the end of lease charges are generally pretty reasonable. Personally, I would not carry out the repairs myself. You can also normally negotiate the costs with the finance company.

Maybe get a quote from a local Volvo dealer or two, via email, so at least you have that in your pocket if you don't get it repaired and then Manheim try to bankrupt you over it.

Zen doesn't require franchised dealer service. So any VAT garage will do and service according to manufacturer schedule and OEM parts.

This isn’t correct, the last two I had got properly appraised back at BCA under harsh light and with a paint thickness meter.

The collection guy only gave it a once over (couldn’t find anything) and said ‘they inspect them properly at the yard’ though.

The depot deemed that the car had ‘poor quality smart repairs’ and needed a half respray. The truth was, it had a brand new bumper and some fill to the wing and front door blended into the back door and bonnet. Now I’m fussy but it was a perfect job at the main dealers approved body shop, but BCA were buggering about looking for the thicker paint. Lex cc’d me to this but I heard nothing more, as I suspect Lex weren’t convinced themselves!
Were you ok with that?

I still believe what I said, you should be told of any issues before it leaves your house and anything else that is found once the car has left my possession is their problem.

Is it just the rear lens/light cluster? I'd be onto eBay for a used one, even if it has a few scores or wear marks as long as it's not cracked it will look no worse than the other side, given the car has already been used and isn't brand new. It's not hard to swap over a rear light cluster on most cars, 15 mins in your drive.

My lease car went back last week.
How long would you be expected to wait to hear back from the leasing company regarding any issues?
It depends. We have had lease cars collected by BCA who give a fairly comprehensive report for you to sign, then you get an invoice if the lease company choose to charge you for any issues.

My daughter recently had a car collected for Zen by a collection company who briefly noted any marks and explained it would be inspected fully on return. Not heard anything four weeks on...
My BMW 5-Series was picked up by BCA on Friday...genuinely gutted to see that car go, it's an absolute beauty to drive. cry

Anyway, on your point, the guy spent about 40 mins inspecting the car inside and out and then I had to sign a report to say I agreed with his findings. Out of curiosity I asked him whether the car was going back to Coventry, as that is where it was delivered from, and he said "No, I'm taking it straight to the car auction in Manchester".

I would imagine that's the case for a lot of cars that aren't 'young' enough to re-lease (mine was a 2020 reg), so once it's gone I wouldn't worry about it too much. I actually got an email from the lease company (LeasePlan) though a couple of hours after it had gone with BCA, confirming they'd reviewed the inspection report and thanked me for looking after the car and there were no charges for wear and tear.

That said, on a related note, the only thing I noticed after the event when I received the report on a confirmation email was was "Service History = missing", which I'd discussed with the guy from BCA as I'd always been told was online, which he agreed with. Has anyone had this before with a BMW (or any other car manufacture that has, sensibly, moved things digital)? Technically, the return FAQ did state that service history needed to be printed out and left on the passenger seat, plus the email from LeasePlan confirming no wear and tear charges also said they reserved the right to charge for missing service history or excess mileage . scratchchin

How would you print out service history??
On my VW I can only get it if I go into a dealer and ask them to print it.
Then it’s got my personal info on that they aren’t allowed to share.
