EBay car, 4wd doesn’t work

We had an original RAV4 for off road duties, even on road tyres, it went everywhere we needed. It was swapped out for a CRV that fleet thought was a good idea. It got stuck with about 10 yards, every single time. It takes an age of wheel spin to activate power to the rear, then it had seemingly no torque.
It was garbage and was replaced by a Freelander that was constantly in the workshop, but was capable when working.
