Does Yipper, the original OP, still post and what are his views on this demise?
Not sure, but the original thread title was bang on the money, in hindsight. Almost went bankrupt and saved by fraudulent behaviour in the end. Was a close call.
Yep, there was certainly a bit of dodgy practices, flogging roadster 2 at $200k up front for founder versions which still haven’t shipped, and a million or so model 3 reservation deposits, non of which was protected in case of bankruptcy, it’s been a while but there were plenty of sharp/illegal practices. I’m sure many will think the ends justifies the means, and others won’t.
Musk certainly thinks the ends justify the means, he has a track record of putting immense pressure on his organisations to quickly act upon his whims and ideas - a lot of the subsequent action is rushed and not ideally implemented.

In the grand scheme of things, the money taken up front and as deposits on the roadster 2 and other models is inconsequential - to Tesla, obviously not to the punters! Nonetheless, it should have been held by a third party to keep the money safe. It wasn't if benefit for Tesla to account for the receipt of those monies directly, they weren't trying to 'fill the coffers', they just reacted quickly and sloppily to Musk waking up one day and deciding "I know what will speed the new Roadster development up, I'll start selling the fking thing! Today!!!"

The same as when he bought Twitter and fired over half of the staff almost immediately... I don't doubt that he could argue the value of being so decisive, I'm sure the remaining staff are now pretty quick to fall into line - but the speed of the dismissals will likely result in higher cost per dismissal than if the had been a gradual, HR designed, phasing down on staff levels. He also changed the name overnight, which is another thing that would typically be introduced over a far longer period to gently allow for brand recognition to catch up. I'm equally sure he would argue that the media shock at the surprise change itself ensured that everybody who needed to know, would now know. He's probably right about these decisions as least as often as he is wrong - and he only loses once when he's wrong, he can win endlessly when he gets it right.

He's certainly not conventional, in any way.

Yipper went from being a big poster to nothing in March 2018.
