I must say that with 37 gr86 on autotrader the residuals don't seem as strong as I expected.

Toyota totally screwed the pooch on this IMO. Poor communication, messed about with the number of cars and then had a fire sale before year end, when brand new cars were being punted out by certain dealers at £3k off list. The first batch of cars were cheaper, so it's not as bad as it looks but I'd be pissed off if I'd paid full asking for a car in the latter part of last year.

Yeah. I sold a tuned GT85 for an MX5 sport last year and have not looked at Gr86 markets - but seen the excellent reviews and sold out orders etc. I assumed they would be fetching mild overs. I was surprised to see dozens for sale with v low miles an at well below list.

I might be interested in one when the novelty of the MX5 wears off (that will take a while as it's great fun).

They were fetching overs when there was only 400 or so coming to the UK

Then Toyota bought in a larger batch.

Over time I still think they'll have good residuals as they're still rare, and a very good car.

Prices will be variable at present until all the ex demos have been sold and the last batch of cars delivered, not to mention of course the higher finance rates will put people off together with seasonal lack of interest currently. Give it a few more months and see how it compares then.

Oh I think they will be good overall.

I lost about a grand in three years owning the GT86 and it cost nothing in repairs/faults. Cheap car and great fun. Gr86 has future classic written all over it. I'd be interested in a lightly tuned one with a decent exhaust in a few years, I think the MX£D will be similar. Last of the cars with RWD, LSD, manual box and no electric motors or haptic touchscreen bks plus driver aids you don't want and need.

They've just about stopped making these types of lightweight sportscars. Given both have Japanese build quality and reliability it's a long term no brainer.

Not exactly the best time sell. The whole market is in free fall.

It is a 23 plate so at its current price it has lost 2k in a year or less than 10%. The first batch were only 30k+ extra for paint. Even in today's diabolical climate that is good going.
