Bizarre video review from Matt Prior. I think he's spent too long on Pistonheads and absorbed a bit of the mindset lol.
He basically said it's really good but spent his time comparing it to an Elise instead of it's market segment, and when he finally compared it to another EV he mentioned the low-slung saloon Taycan instead of it's rivals like the iX7, Model X or RR Sport. Do Cayenne reviews still harp on about not having rear-biased weight distribution and flat-6 howl or have we moved past that now?
It's like he just couldn't bring himself to assess the car on it's own merits.
Ironically the Elise is like a lead-weight around the neck of Lotus in the UK, but I assume less so in markets like the US and not at all in China.

Yeah really surprising, Prior is usually spot on with his reviews, really enjoy watching and reading his work normally. He basically said it's really good but spent his time comparing it to an Elise instead of it's market segment, and when he finally compared it to another EV he mentioned the low-slung saloon Taycan instead of it's rivals like the iX7, Model X or RR Sport. it means he doesn't believe you
He shouldn't judge others by his own standards then , lol . Truth is I love my Taycan CT Turbo so hope that the saloon EV Lotus does next may be a better match for what I like . In the meantime I'll have to live with just 2 lotuses in the garage .

What do you expect that a Lotus saloon EV to do differently/better than your already sunken cost Taycan that would justify a change?
Change doesn't need to be different or better , just a matter of choice - but I'd hope a Lotus EV might handle and go as well at the Taycan, with a better range . . This one's crept up on me a bit love the look of it Mrs has a macan that Porsche are begging to buy back I think I could get her in one of these. I'm totally out of the loop with the EV writedowns for powerfully built company directors but her car is just completely privately owned currently so obviously it makes more sense for us to have her in a company car as a co director but haven't seen anything yet that is as appealing as the Macan. She is one of those yummy mummy types that won't drive anything but an SUV now so the Eletre is the first EV that's really caught oir attention. I would just really have the usual concerns about the lack of service backup/will it ever arrive if we order etc etc

I don't know about the ownership experience but tbh I don't think many Taycan owners/leasers would be singing Porsche's praise either. I would expect Geely to be able to screw together a car a lot better than Porsche tbh, minimally because you don't have a gazillion options that need to be assembled in infinite amounts of variations and I would think Geely is a lot more mature in terms of EVs than when Porsche started out with the Taycan and hopefully do a bit more testing as well like making sure the car has heating in the winter and that kind of thing. The Eletre is very attractive to my eyes, possibly the best looking of that lot, and that's a good start. It certainly looks the money and has the right sporty successful look about it. I'm sure it drives ok too but if that's a priority then you don't start with a 2,500kg EV obviously.
This is the very resolved car that you are looking to replace, lol?
I have owned or driven all the cars you have mentioned and plenty of others. I'm sure they are great. I don't necessarily make rational choices myself but for sure I will not pick a 2,500kg car if I want to have fun, as I define fun. But I don't think that's the ask here anyhow. Looks a bit sporty etc and is decent enough to drive down some main roads.

im a bit confused about the range of the lotus - the top spec model seems to have a lower range than the other spec models which seems a bit daft. I was thinking of going for the R but it has 70 miles less range. Given range anxiety is a very real thing, why would they do this. I might have to go for the s instead. I doubt the 0-60 performance is really going to matter in real life

It's a weird one with EVs that more power = less expected range. Whether it's because manufacturers/testers whoever think that we'd spend more time booting the more powerful ones... well, they're probably correct, but anyway. The point is check the battery size, if it's the same size battery then the range should be similar for the same driving style.
