I was at a 296 launch event - again - and it turns out the base price of the 296 has increased from £231k when first launched to £241k now, this seemingly before a single car has been delivered to anyone anywhere. The particular car they had on display had been optioned up to £335k. Delivery quoted at Q2 23.

The accompanying spiel is familiar now, a fun car to drive and so on but I do wonder about the price. A spider is coming and if it’s the usual £25k premium, it won’t take much to break the 300 barrier.

Quite smart by Ferrari.

On a global scale there has been an explosion in wealth and these people want to buy what they perceive to be high value / aspirational products so there is sufficient demand.

The significant uplift versus list price of previous generation F-cars will also help artificially prop up residuals.

seems expensive to me when a well spec'd spider will be £350k+

you obviously pay for the latest and greatest but the mere thought I could have a 488 spider + f12 for that makes me shudder slightly

I am sure it'll be great to drive though, i've good things from the small amount of people who have had the chance

Was told there is a price rise coming for everything. Given the lead times for cars now there could be more than one

Yes, the combination of inflation and the long lead times is not a happy mix. The list price of the 812 GTS I’ve had on order since last July has already increased once.

Having spent two days trying the 296, I have to say it was way better than I anticipated.
It is a truly remarkable piece of engineering. Going to price one and then decide.

Me too, I was at the Experience event last Wed/Thurs. What is the deposit likely to be ?
I heard delivery on a GTB would be the end of 2024

I can’t afford one and think it is really pretty, so decided not to attend a launch event - I know myself unfortunately ...
slightly jealous of you guys

That seems low as its usually £25k.

Drove it yesterday at Milbrook.

Coming from F8S to GTB (would go for a GTS) so not a direct comparison.

Sound - Better, and louder.

Interior - Seats ok (vs. Daytona) don’t like the dash binnacle nor the chrome trim. Cabin less airy, feels perceptibly smaller.

Steering - Sharper, and more weighty.

Throttle Response - Again sharper, but that’ll be the torque fill from the hybrid system. Well integrated.

Looks - Prefer the front of the F8, prefer side profile and rear of the 296.

Performance - It’s faster, noticeably faster.

Dislikes;

I. Decal Pack on Assetto Fiorano pack (not sure if you could option this out)

II. Harness OR seat belt, why can’t we have both a la Porsche?

III. Can’t stand the exhaust, would have to go black so it was less obvious.

Would I buy one? Likely yes after that.

12.5k is the deposit for customers with buying history and multiple cars.

I think part of this is trying to separate it from Artura given how favourable the reviews have been - there's nothing doing with Lambo at the moment.

More generally there's a shift towards increasing average transaction value, it's more profitable to build 2 cars for £350k than 3 cars for £240k.

Demand is still strong enough that they can sell more they can build, but at the same time the wider economic landscape is such that it's hard to justify increasing production.

I know a few people who've driven it and to a man (/person!) they all say it's another level performance wise - whoever get's one won't be too disappointed by the sound of it.

Had a test drive with HR Owen's demonstrator at their Ripley Bentley showroom a couple of weeks ago. Amazing bit of kit but:

1. I find it ugly.
2. I can't bring myself to get past the fact that it's "only" a V6.
3. Still love my Roma and praying to every sky deity that might/might not exist that another series production V12 will be launched.
4. Price feels punchy for what is effectively to me an F8 hybrid replacement.

Good news is the pedals are further apart than the F8 so no issues with my size 12's hitting the brake pedal like I did in the F8 when using the accelerator.

i've not heard of anyone who didn't think it was an improvement over the f8/488 (other than styling)

plenty will upgrade on the basis of speed as they find their f8's too slow in comparison

I think this one and the Roma are the prettiest non-limited (do like the Monza very much) cars they have made in the last 2 decades. I love the look of the FF (and to a lesser extent Lusso), but I would not call them pretty. I really do not like the elongated front lights on most cars from 2011 to 2021

Twice now I've been driving through Markyate/Kensworth and seen 6-10 296s in convoy and they've got an awful lot of presence in the metal - much like the Roma I think. I thought that was horrid when I first saw pictures but when I saw one in the wild it didn't half make me tingle!

One question though: If you've put your deposit down for a car doesn't that then fix the purchase price so that you're protected from any future price increases?

I also drove it at Millbrook - I’ve never owned a Ferrari and whilst I thought it “ pretty “ wasn’t blown away by the styling. Did think the noise pretty decent though and the handling and driving feeling on the Alpine circuit both have got me thinking.
Talking afterwards seems like an order placed now could be seen in a physical car late Q2 of next year.
Also got the impression that further price increase if forthcoming would not be protected by a deposit but instead additional spec would be added to compensate.

I didn’t see it as an improvement over the F8. Thought the steering wasn’t as quite as good as the F8 and just far too cramped inside to be comfortable (although I’m tall). Also a significant price increase over the F8. Can’t believe anybody feels that the F8 is too slow? 296 does sound better (wouldn’t be hard) but certainly not a great sounding car compared to the back catalogue. I do get the impression they are slightly struggling to fill their order books given the amount of invites and calls I’ve had to deposit.

Standard motor industry contract ie list at time of delivery - to which it should be added that some of the most special finishes/options will not be priced til delivery !
