But 40% on a 6-figure exec sports saloon over 4yrs isn't really that bad in "normal land", is it?

The biggest problem seems to be a perception that Porsches don't depreciate. But save for limited run cars, has that ever really been true? And if it has, should it have been?

I do think they have pushed the boat out on list prices for their EV lines and suspect part of that might be them wanting a piece of the (frankly daft) tax breaks that were/are available. That was never going to be a good move when it came to residuals. But then EVs from other makers aren't necessarily "cheap" either.

Once the hysteria settles down I think residuals will shallow out quickly.
Porches hardly depreciate - well, not for the main stealers they don't anyway.
As a hapless owner trading one in, they'll have your pants down just like any other marque will.

There's no way that a battery pack and a motor or two should cost more than an engine and gearbox.

Yes the BOM might be a bit higher but just look at the number of parts and steps that goes into a complete engine and box.

And if MG can knock a 77kwh battery out the door for £20k with a healthy mark up and the rest of a car attached then Porsche can make a 95kwh battery for easily under 5k.

TLDR the EV Mecan should comfortably undercut the ICE Mecan.
Agree on the TLDR but

I am not sure how much money MG is making on these £20k EVs. China knocks them out fast and cheap but it might be a market grabbing pricing strategy.

They are redirecting stock to the UK because of tariffs into the EU and USA ...

The £20k MG's are £30k cars discounted by £10k ... as a consequence.

The price of Li Ion batteries per kWh ... around £10k for a 100 kWh battery ...

This was Bloomberg's analysis from 2023 ...

Fair comment about the subsidies but the general direction of the comment stands.

There's a huge amount of scope to get the price of batteries right down.

£10k for a big battery still seems very high to me and I'd put money on it looking very high with hindsight in 5 years time.

Would £7000 by 2030 be a good result ??

Solid State batteries will hopefully by then skew the calculation ... but who knows ? They have been 2 years away for the last 4 years ?

I wouldn't bet against half that by the early 30's.

Goes without saying that more will be on AT and Porsche AUC as more deliveries are made, they only started coming through in mass a couple of months ago, and Porsche will want current stock gone before March 1

It's the same everywhere else

Nothing unsual, just the merry-go-round of car sales... biggrin

Spicy as in good or bad? I ran a quote on Macan 4 and looking at around £900 that's with no significant options.

I know it is a totally different car but a mate has just leased a 750e (it’s a hybrid) for £600 a month. Over £100k list. Crazy cheap. Unlike a Macan 4. Not salary sacrifice just a regular 2 year lease.

Have finally worked out my order. As it’s a company car I need to be sensible with options and amazingly it is better to go for a Turbo rather than an optioned up 4S

Can any owners suggest any essentials I am missing?

Macan Turbo Electric
Dolomite Silver Metallic
22-inch Macan Sport Wheels
Extended Leather Interior in Black
Exterior mirrors painted in exterior colour
Side window trims in Black high gloss
Sideblades painted in exterior colour
Panoramic roof
River wiper
Privacy glass
Accent Package Silvershade
Seat centres in contrast Chalk Beige
Surround view with active park

Have you driven one with the augmented HUD? It's pretty cool from what I saw although I didn't see the augmented stuff.

I went with Black and Crayon interior and it's all getting G-Technic'd (also in the deal)

Had a Macan 4 demo for the day yesterday, loaded with options including HUD.

Goes well, quite efficient and can't argue with the handling. I haven't driven many EVs so I have no term of paragon. Tech is great. The HUD is great BUT the nanny aids are even more in your face and a ball ache to disable every time. This isn't Porsche's fault.

Lovely thing, I could see myself changing my Macan S for it, but not for the price differential. When they're £40k with OPC warranty and reasonable insurance, possibly. At £100k, no chance.

It's a slippery slope. I was happy with boggo spec until i started obsessing - £7k later and i'm still kicking myself about options i've missed biggrin
I hated the HUD on a test drive BTW, found it really distracting.

As you're getting a turbo, im guessing your standard options are way more than the 4 (my order) But rear airbags if you have kids... talk about guilt tax if ever there was such a thing! A couple of dealers also kept going on about Power Steering Plus - that might be standard for you.

They did that when I spec'd a 992 - told them i didn't want it. The cynic within makes me think it must be a very high margin option.

I drove a 4s and the Turbo, really impressive handling considering the weight.
