The organisers of the recent MSVR/ MSN circuit rally championships announced a few weeks ago that the championship is taking a break for the 22/23 winter season, although the individual events will still run.

In its place the individual event organisers and clubs have got together to announce that they will, instead, collectively run a circuit rally championship with 6 events from 9 to count, to include events at Oulton Park, Donington Park, Cadwell Park, Anglesey, Snetterton and Brands Hatch etc

See here: https://www.circuitrally.co.uk

This is nothing to do with me, I am merely posting the information, although I hope to do a couple/3 of the events but time/ finances/ etc will tell.

Please let’s not let this degenerate in to a “it’s not proper rallying” thread, it’s a format that has its place and is quite popular. No one will try to tell you it’s a good alternative to the national asphalt series or the British rally championship or the BRTDA championships but it attracts a good range of cars from R5s to historics, is spectator and competitor friendly and good value. I have found the events ideal to enter from a novice point of view.

I understand that full details of regs and class structure etc etc are still being sorted but will be announced as soon as possible.

Hopefully without having to put in to prize money and register with MSV series it might mean entry fees are better and perhaps even gate prices which had advanced a lot in recent years although still fairly cheap.

Prize money really ? Thought that died a death in the late 80s .

I certainly wasn’t aware of any prize money and I was a registered competitor (and came third in the MX5 class) in 2020/21.

Do the people that win the classes or championship not get a prize of just a trophy, I thought that might be why speccy entry prices went up, or maybe JP just realised it was a nice little earner why not try it on and see!!

I received a glass trophy for third.

It should be noted that the circuit hire fees for the (winter) rally series are a lot lower (but not low!) than the fees charged for a race meeting in the summer. This must be because there are generally only about a 100 cars entered on a rally compared with up to 300 cars for a race meeting.

In my view the entry fee for a circuit rally is very broadly similar to that charge per “track minute” for a race meeting. No idea how spectator entry fees compare but a quick Google shows me that advanced ticket prices for the CSCC club racing meeting on the weekend of 10/11 Sept at Donington Park are £14 per day.

I was of the understanding on previous discussion on this that the club takes the gate fee?

Regardless of venue. I did know some folk linked to the Donington Dukeries event years back, and that was maybe the case then.

Maybe the MSV events were run by MSV hence the price increase for punters, it used to be a tenner or around that, was starting to get close to 25 quid which for standing around in winter is a bit steep, but still reasonable if that is your thing.

And from my experience, the only events that really got decent crowds were Cadwell fireworks and Oulton, there was hardly ever anyone at Brands Donington or especially Snetterton!

In the club racing world which I am more familiar with, the circuit takes the gate fee. Don’t see why it would be any different for the circuit rallies.

I have seen decent crowds at the Oulton, Donington and Snetterton rallies, Oulton being the best. By decent I mean far better than at a club race meeting and not just competitors families!

The clubs get none of the money from spectators. Never have done in the 40+ years I have been involved.
